One thing to keep in mind about NYC compared to other US cities -- New Yorkers are busy hustlin' all the time because the city is so expensive. Everyone is also raised to mind their own business. This is why if you mind your business and don't bother anyone, you really will be ignored in nearly any neighborhood you go in. Meanwhile, people in poorer, slower cities like Detroit or St Louis -- they're bored!!! and there aren't that many people. THEY WILL FUCK WITH YOU

You just talking to speak man. I'm from Detroit and lived in NY for 9 years now. Detroit is a hustlin ass city, always has been, and this is known throughout the Midwest. It's plenty of young dumb ass kids in NY who do nothing but shoot TikToks of them getting sturdy, rob people for pennies, and gangbang. Gangbangin is not even a part of Detroit culture, most the violence even among gangs has to do with money. I lived in all kind of hoods in the Midwest, NY, and the South, and the one universal is if you mind your business and don't carry yourself like a victim niggas is not gon bother you, nine times outta ten. Chill out with the NY exceptionalism, it's a bunch of bored ass bums out here too.

I was a Bronx kid and so glad I got out. The kids of these neighborhoods do not have the support to become better people in society but instead are so influenced by the worst of their culture that they all have lost the meaning of their culture. People now associate their culture with crimes and not what the generations of the past worked so hard to build, Black kids need more structure and education. The fact is if the Black communities does not unanimously work hard to abolish these acts then this cycle will forever continue, no one wants to raise a family like this. No one wants to live like this, it's bad enough to not receive support from the government so why make your own hood a war zone? I will never take my child back to The Bronx, I want the best for the next generation. More education means they have more of an opportunity to change this country.

Yeah i used to live over by White Plains rd & 225th i seen kids move in the area who have potential to be positive assets on society just get absorbed by the toxicity. Once your kids are 9-10 you gotta get out that area. It's great for them until then because they see the f*cked up part of society & become grateful for opportunities afterwards but those mid to later adolscent years are high risk.

Most of the violence is in heavily concentrated in particular parts of the city and among gangs, drug dealers). If you're not involved in those activities and not going to areas you'd have no reason to go to, then NYC is as safe as any big city. You don't tell a tourist to go to Brownsville Brooklyn they would be traveling in places like Times Square or other touristy areas downtown etc.. The areas you named the only people who should be there are people who live/work there or have family there only. Beyond that, situational awareness will get you a long way, use common sense, be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine.

Why is Far Rockaway like that? It could be a resort area, it is right on the Atlantic Ocean with what used to be beautiful beaches and surf. Just imagine that, it's a subway ride from Manhattan. Why is it the way it is? Years ago New Yorkers used to get on the subay with some luggage and go to the Rockaways for vacation. You could rent rooms or even a bungalow like todays B&B's, it was great.
