I know about being able to earn one transmog token per week from elite chests, but that still doesn't make the system much better in my opinion. It's still something they've timegated from the game that should be free and put it in the store. Also, I've had to delete several comments due to personal attacks. I don't mind criticisms on the video, but please keep it civil. We are disagreeing about a video game here, not some super controversial issue...

People defending timegating is something I can never understand... So you're telling me I gotta grind for around a month and a week to transmog a full set of gear? LMAO , such an awful way to go around it. The tokens are not cheap to buy either , ~11eur for a bundle of 5 tokens ... right. People that lose their cool bcs criticism doesn't allign with their feelings are just immature. Keep up the good content man.

Spot on about the story. If you watch dev talks they essentially admit to just winging it update after update after update. "You see those floating obelisks? Yeah we thought floating obelisks would look cool..... yeah no thats it. They just float for no reason. Cool right?" very deep lore

Amazon clearly spent time, money and dedication to make this with variety, color, navigability and ease of access! Then they attached a barely functioning mmo to this shop.

I was pretty hyped for this game before launch but only got 8 hours in before giving up on it. The thing I remember most was everyone demanding mounts and the insistence that NW was a mount-free game for lore reasons, and mounts would NEVER come to the game. I see that has changed, lol.

Very well put together overview of the games current state. Pretty environments, okay combat, poorly implemented systems and not enough content that feels rewarding.

I just re-tried the game for the first time since it nuked my 1080GTX back in '21. My toon is only level 22 so i was hit hardest by all the changes. Most of my gear was moved up in level requirements, and i had to start the whole quest chain over. honestly your assessment is spot on. the quests are unremarkable. and suddenly it no longer feels like a grim-dark world where the encroaching corruption is about to kill us all and make us zombies or monsters or something. sucks the fun out of that aspect. Also the NPCs state that its a world where you can't die, hanging a lamp shade on the whole player and monster respawn, but it doesn't flesh it out any (at least not yet) and makes it less impactful. All in all after playing for 4-6 hours yesterday, it just... wasn't very fun. Even the holiday event going on this week is min. level 60, so i'm excluded from that. I dunno, i may give the game some more time, but i just feel like it really isn't a lot of fun and that most who do play enjoy a few aspects and at this point are beyond the sunken cost, and just keep playing.

Artemis and her past about Elysian Wilds story is decent. Easy to understand.

The systems in New World, when everything works the way it's intended, are the best out of any modern MMO out rn. The problem is that they don't always work and are set in a world that no one knows/isn't fleshed out. If you take the combat, influence, crafting, and gathering systems, etc, and put them in a world like FF or Elder Scrolls we'd be in buisness.

@AzuraeJades thats literally just what I said. Also, I'd rather just not play an MMO rather than suffer through the benign tedium of most tab target MMOs where skill and build diversity is thrown out of the window.

You should give the PVE experience of V-Rising a go. It's best when done in groups of 4 (max party size) and Every single mechanic you learn through the game is put to the test with increasingly difficult pve boss battles. No real raid scenarios but still incredibly fun.

Sadly none of my friends got into it but I REALLY enjoyed the PVE experience on V-Rising. Gonna have to go back and do it again now that you reminded me!

Between the paid transmog and hilarious mount glitching when you encounter *gasp* stairs I think you saved me some money spent to wait in server queues this weekend. I agree about expedition bosses too, there are some cool ones but the way combat works makes them awkward rather than satisfying fights.

every weapon gets 6 possible skills.... but you can only use 3 at a time, played quite a bit liking gathering and crafting.. for a day or 2, thought it was a sandboxy styled mmo like the oldies(ultima, runescape), this game is a major step back in so many ways.

I'm looking for a time sink now. This kind fits the area I'm looking for as the graphics are nice, and the subscription fee is nothing. I understand why the dlc was paid as the subscription fee being nothing means they need to once in a while charge content to keep the game running esp if their cash shop isn't producing. I'm hoping this game can scratch an itch i'm looking for.. if not GW2 will bring me back after years away.

Nice vid. But In my opinion. As a returning player and getting the dlc mainly for mounts. I dont think i could recommend new world to anyone unless you have nothing else to play or don't mind wasting your time. I feel like they went into graphics rather than content. I'm not big on pvp in mmos and other than pvp, there doesn't seem to be anything to do once you have the best in slot gear and the extra 5 levels that don't take long to get. The end game just feels dead

I cant speak about NW other than what I've heard about it when it started. People seemed to really like it and despite the issues, a consistant playerbase stayed behind. Still, me being a player who actually highly values a good story... still not for me. I hope, FF14's grafic updates for 7.0 come up with something similar to this :)

Help spread the term, transition. An expansion is new content added such as maps uniquely new character designs and animations, A transition is changes to already existing content. Reskinned assets, weapon tweaks, map area rearrangements. The two are vastly different and should be better well known to the younger gamers.

Currently on sale in steam for 15€, maybe lower in G2A. I quess it will be worth it for casual playing

I never felt any pull to any MMOs over the years, but ironically NW was my first MMO due my friends pushing me to play it with them. The start was quite slow, but I enjoyed the leveling process, regularely interspersed with gathering and crafting. After getting to levelcap and doing the daily grinding to get the Expertise to Cap as well, the game-loop started to get a bit boring; doing Mutated Expeditions to get Gear/Drops to get higher in Mutations, later doing Speed-Runs. The only thing that really bound me to the game was the combat, as I enjoyed the game as a sort of Souls-Like, that could get my heart pumping in those moment when I was the last one standing in a bossfight, with only my dodges and carefully placed attacks leading to a kill. Then I started playing FF14 and, well, having a comparison really did let me see all the flaws of NW, which even the combat couldn't save it from anymore. Been playing FF14 since. Can't think of coming back to NW anytime soon.

@@oh_tew Weird, I have less than 200 ingame hours and am in the middle of the penultimate expansions' MSQ. If I'd only focused on the MSQ it wouldn't even have taken me a third of that time. Y'all just slow at reading :)

I see NW as an alpha test to the upcoming LOTR mmo, so it's good that they are listening to the playerbase and improving the game, meaning we can expect a superb mmo when it launches.

I said that 2 years ago, and even year ago when fresh servers started: This game needs 2-4 years before it will be good. And good means a mmo that is worth to play and invest all of your free time. It is still good sign that amazon has not given up yet, even though they could do it few times by now. Also few mmos had also bad launches and later on fixed everything. But we are still talking about amazon here, they know how to make bad decisions, or how to destroy a good game. About monetization, well people are complaining about expac price, but remember that they don't ask for money for a year, so those 30$ for a year of playing is small amount compared to other mmos. About ingame shop, yeah, transmog is trash, battlepass is also going kinda in bad direction, but it is their way of making money so I guess they try to make a lot of people buy it. This game have still unlimited potential and even those things that are boring for you are amazing for me, I even like races because you can just chill and talk to others etc.

Review is spot on. Can be a great game to play casually, but if you want to invest a lot of time and go hard on end game, good luck at having fun. Also, the inventory management should have been brought up. This game will make you sit in your inventory so long the game will ask if you’re afk. Happens almost daily for me. Too much bloat.

Cash store is a big no for me. Especially with non cosmetic items (even then). Ill keep to the ones that things are earned and cash shops do not exist. Thanks for the video. Btw one of the reasons me (and many others i know) avoided this game is because they started saying no pay to win etc and then immediately swapped and said boosts etc right before release. If you want an explanation as to why (as said in video) the cities look copied and pasted, and like someone was forced to take shortcuts or just do poor work.

You definitely have goid points, like the story being delivered horribly, but i disagree in a lot of things. I also partly agree with the mounts. They should've added mounts for everyone, but just the horses. If you want wolves amd Lions, then buy the game. I also hugely hate that a mount skin sells for almost the expansion's price. Thats ridiculous. Should've been about $5 at the most. This also takes out the option of farming ultra rare mounts for showing off. Overall, a nice video with good points. Im glad it's not another "dEaD gAme" or NW hate trend video

I agree with many of your points. However, bugs and monetization aside, the mounts actually handle very well and the addition of a mount skill tree adds some welcome depth. Overall, I agree that New World needs a lot of work, but it seems like way too many people love to nitpick this game while never giving it any credit for what it does right. This game exceeds most popular MMOs in a variety of ways that no one ever mentions. The crafting, combat, PvP, graphics, and yes, MOUNTS, etc. in NW make games like WoW and FF14 look/feel archaic and boring.

i liked the game and i still want to like it, but it is kinda hard when they restrict so much with this expansion.

Main reason why I can’t get into it fully is cause the story and characters are so boring and not memorable at all. I’m surprised as well that there still aren’t any raids in the game. Like you said I think the game needs couple more years to really get there, it is a good game at its core and I really hope it continues being developed and doesn’t get scrapped.

Here I was thinking about coming back to New World after a year off, but then I got to your cash store portion and completely changed my mind. It's insane that they have players pay to transmog, INSANE.

If it didn’t cost 40 to try I would. But I’m iffy on it and maybe it’ll be on sale soon.

i don't think exp boost for gathering is pay to win as it doesn't give u an unfair advantage in pvp or pve content but thats just me

Not gonna lie, the game is not the best but you exageratted with lots of things here. Transmogs tokens are not so hard to get, the story while lacking in some parts it's at least decent if you pay attention to it, especially with the new zone which actually shows us at the end who actually is the big bad. The boosters are kinda pointless with how easy to lvl weapons and skills is now. The new expansion adds a bit more content than Brimstone sands.. dungeons are indeed lacking when it comes to boss fights, if you do the normal ones that is, mutations add more elements to it and increase difficulty and combat metrics and macros... pvp is way more fun than what you explained here ... No offense but you rushed through everything without bothering to pay attention to anything or actually enjoying it...

ty, I was considering trying this game out again since the failure of a launch it had, you forgot to talk about the gold duping bugs that ruined the economy and even after it was fixed there were no punishment's handed out to those who duped gold and on top of that they got to keep the duped gold... but after seeing that stuff about the cash shop I'm never going to return to this game.

he overexaggerated by miles xD This game is far from p2w lol...buying skins = no p2w, buying mounts = no p2w, buying those gathering tokens = no p2w (maybe pfc), transmog tokens (u can get them from chest drops and season pass so they are not only available through cash shop) and the rest are mostly colours (which you also get while playing or through season pass), furniture (which is completely usless if you take away the stylish effect they have) and so on. He also talked about not having played pvp, which alone is the sums up the video - he literally almost only played pve and New World is known for its good pvp mechanics and fun modes. Although the devs tend to let the pvp scene down a bit, it still is one of their most influential playmodes and definately needs a larger rating in this video then what it actually got. Most of the things mentioned are simply taken out of context (for example no new raidbosses - the reason for them not adding a new one is because they just released their first raidboss 3 months ago). If you are interested in playing you should never listen to people who "tested" a game for 1 month and havent even explored all the content while doing so. All the bug fixes, balancing and reworks that have been done since launch didnt even get mentioned and that surely has to be one of the most important topics for a returning player. Also, the bug with the mount - i have played around 15 hours sind expansion launch and i've never actually seen this bug so i dont know if this is PC or settings related.

I've played around 8 different MMORPGS (including FFXIV and WOW) but this is the one of the only 2 MMORPGS that actually kept me interested in the game, although as mentioned above, mostly through pvp content which didnt get analized almost at all

People arent pissed off about Transmog because they also exist as drops in the world. Additionally theres really no pay-to-win in the cash shop because XP doesnt make you a better player. You can dump $500 into an account and youll still get slaughtered in arenas.

Can l just play this in single player?

the reason i quit was the immersion breaking things, like cities looking the same, mobs looking the same. I reached lever 35 and was hyped to go to another city, turns out it looked just like the last one, the mobs looked like the last zone (and the zones before that) So i just quit. Immersion is very important, more important than devs seem to realise.

You can earn transmog tokens out of chests they are not locked behind a pay wall lol

One per week because fuck your time, new world player! It's the stupidest way they could have implemented transmog.

OK let’s just admit to get any of the really good stuff in the game you have to go on the huge mob runs to get elite chests. There’s no sense of battle and most the time when I was doing it, I just found myself running around to the next chest without even fighting. Got boring really quick.. not enough stuff in the game can be done with just yourself or a small group. If they made everything accessible with just a small group so your actual fighting skills made a difference then I would be much more interested in the game. honestly, my favorite part of the game was resource gathering and doing trades or sales in the store, but that can only last so long.

I feel like this review doesn't do the game full justice. as a lot of the content in the game is around pvp. The grind and story of the game will be some compared to rune scape, but overall I feel like it's a PVP end game "game" currently. Getting "BIS" items for PVP can be nearly impossible but skill in dodging and having better aim can carry everyone through having bad gear as long as you have the bare minimum. ( for me as a player who loves Dark souls like games this MMO feels like the only choice if your looking for an Intense pvp experience with a big skill gap MMO )

Devs should redesign this asap cause the world itself is beautiful. I see what you mean for boosters being played to win. I think I would add the price to change worlds is ridiculously overpriced and that to me is highway robbery

Gathering feels GREAT in this game.

I refuse to use the transmog system. I'll pay for a mount but that's about it. Changing your appearance should be free! The combat and exploration are fun, but I can't see myself staying very long once I reach max level

seems to me its better to just play guild wars , yeah the graphics aren't as good as this game but like.. the combat is quite similar , and its also buy once play forever, tho it does have some pay to convinience stuff that is a lil bs, tho horizontal progression makes it quite viable to pick it up when you want and not feel under geared or like you need to spen 100 hours grinding armor and gear, that being said its not perfect but its very god damn fun :3, ps all the mounts feel uinqiue and have their own role even if you need to have a dlc to own them , but the base exp is free to play as long as yo udon't mind being teased with a raptor mount for 10 hours ( you get a free trial ) inciting you to buy the dlc cuz damn you gotta walk XD

Agree with most of your points. Played NW alot and thought of returning but I don't think the new content is worth it's price. As a huge transmog enjoyer in WoW I was really looking forward to this feature but seeing the implementation got me completely turned off with the incredible low rate you can earn those tokens. If you make an expansion that lacks so much gameplay content atleast introduce a system that allows the player to earn transmog tokens and cosmetics for their new mounts at a reasonable rate.

As a person who loves this game after 3k hrs, thank you for pointing out that group combat is underwhelming. This applies to pvp as well! I play mostly solo to maintain my enjoyment of the game, because the button mashing, standing in heals brainlessly is not so fun. We need more individual skill in the game. Otherwise, the strongest part of the game is pvp, and the combat feels much more visceral than your average tabtarget MMO. As an archer irl, and someone who leans into “Hunter/Ranger” gameplay often, the archery combat in this game is 100% the best of any I’ve played, and probably the main reason I’ve stuck around.

I can totally see the appeal of the PVP in this game and I tried to bring that across. I was excited to try the wars, but getting into them isn't easy as a new player without spending a lot of time in the game

I used to war very frequently but since then the companies I was “in with” have moved on and getting into well-established groups at this stage is a difficult task. I don’t have the energy to put forth the effort to appease to those groups lol

Transmog tokens are not actually locked behing micro transactions, you get 3 tokens from the battlepass and they drop from elite chests.

First time i watched a "Worth going back to" video without the host orgasming and saying everyone should buy it. Earned yourself a subscriber! Thank you for not being someone that thinks just a new coat of paint and garbage mounts isnworth the $30 and time.investment!

On the graphic side, they apparently do not got a single dev who could program water or rain... it looks like something taken out from ps3 era... wish we had living and good looking wster like the ones in Sea of Thieves.. and swimming.. we need swimming

Jolsn, you obviously have high standards for games that you play and that is ok. I avoid the cash shop and for the cost of the original and expansion, I feel I am receiving my money's worth. There are defects and a few have been impactful but they are being addressed very quickly. Overall, I'd recommend the game to players to who do not expect perfection and are looking for an enjoyable game to play.

I did think the leveling was good after the rework. If the story was any better and you could more easily find parties for expeditions I could probably recommend it for those who just want spend a while in the game

Missing the first 3 months of NW, it wass the best experience..

Over 3500 hours into New World at this point. The expansion makes it even better. Yes there are the usual MMO launch day issues of queues but they will even out.

Launch was catastrophic. Game was boring as hell. Clanky. The fact more than one million players vanished after 2 months of release should be proof enough. Now, people claim it's in a 1.0 state. Good enough, lets say so, I completely agree. What about the fact there's only one "new zone which is in fact a revamped one" ? I heard it take you one evening to complete the new "story". Is that OK ? What about you take away mutated expeditions for players that dont pay the expansion ? What about the fact mounts, which really should have been in base game because you had so much running to do just to kill 3 rabbits in each zone, are behind a pay wall ? But now they kind of killed it anyway because you have so much waypoints. What about paying for transmog tokens or wait weeks because the free ones are time gated ? What about the horrendeous battlepass system ? Are those points really just people "loving to be critical", as you state ? I hate being taken for an ass. Amazon games seem to be exceedingly good at this. Even if the game is actually OK. And stop with the "I played for X thousands of hours for 40 dollars, so its worth according to my ratio". I could pay 60 dollars for any game that make me feel something for a 10 hours ride. I don't have fun chopping wood for 100 hours/running the same dungeon for the 78th time/running around a camp of mobs to loot the same chests again, while I listen to a youtube video to make me feel like I'm not wasting my time.

Being critical is psychological defense mechanism that enables a person to deny their own issues by attributing those traits to others. Ive played about 50 hours now and all i can say is i am having fun and really enjoying it, but i will say it feels like there is something missing.

The game is on sale, and I was tempted to try it out, but after seeing the transmog system locked behind paying even more money... hell no, I'll try something else

The moment I saw 'Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Focus and Constitution', I knew EXACTLY whose homework they copied whilst developing this game... because I'm following their path trying to make mine, but without a network

The end game is still non-existent. I guess all these new players will find that out shortly once they see what the companies, factions, gold distribution, wars, taxes, crafting costs, poor matchmaking is all about, once they actually get there. As for the old players, they didn't return, because the player numbers are about half of Brimstone "the not an expansion" release. These numbers will fade once people figure this out and move on to the next new thing in this stale climate.

good video. overall i will probably give new expansion a shot. however i wanted to make a comment on cash shop. at this point it's clear that cash shops dont go anywhere. i m absolutely fine paying for cosmetics and im absolutely fine paying for xp boosters. i hate leveling, i dont want to do it like ever. i want to jump into end game content right away. better yet, i want an MMO release without HUGE wasted open world, but rather with 1-2 zones that are large and a city or two, which are also large. and nay raids and dungeons to come in form of instanced zones. similar to wow. AND you lso get max level character right now away, i dont want to level at all.

I reinstalled this game and was about to play it again but then I remembered the endgame where I was doing mass chest runs. I uninstalled the game

I tried the game awhile back, but it just couldn't hold my attention. Combat was ok, but i always felt only 3 skills a weapon was too few. The visuals of the world looked and felt good but the player models were pretty lackluster, so much armor clipping too for a new mmo. And i didn't feel anything for the story, it just felt bland and boring. I tried to go back in during brimstone sands update too but I couldn't find myself to want to log in. I'd wager its just the same game with mounts, which wouldn't make a difference now to me.

You do know that you can get transmog tokens out of elite chests without needing to spend any money right...?

Yes, and I se one in the video too. Them giving you a free token every bow and then as consolation doesn't make this system any better in my opinion

I came back to play, but got off right away. Transmogs and gear sets being paid for killed the entire idea of the game for me, i most likely wont be returning ever again.

I went back to New world then became confuse on how upgrading gears work so I search it up and found nothing that looks like my screen. So I went farming for items cause I can't find anything to help me improve my level and found the game kind of boring again. Players in my server are mostly on top of the map farming 24/7 and no one going into dungeons. New world somehow is dead and alive at the same time. I really need a good MMORPG game to play.

actual pvp updates. more opr maps. no slow on every melle hit. too much bonus dmg etc etc

Shops/ or anything else P2W - Like stuff! Will always be a thing, as long the game are not running on a sub - But the most players today - SAY they want a free to play game :) You guys - decided this!

I played New World back at launch and started playing FFXIV in late summer of 2022. I enjoyed New World, got to max, max weapon mastery and crafters/gatherers, max hwm, but I just got bored. FFXIV was much more my style, although I do miss the art style and graphics of New World.

Developer seems to dont know what business model is the best. You should look at BDO. Its free to play but pay for convenient. Also lots and tons of cosmetics that is not expensive. People buy those thing.

played it max 3 months when brimstone released made to 60 then uninstalled. Because at end game if you like to use magic or ranged you wont get into mutations(end game content),most ranged weapons are useless at DPS,weapon balance is terrible and noway i'm running braindead chest runs for end game.

13:15 let’s be honest they’re better than diablo 4 mounts.

The thing is if i dont buy the DLC i can not achive 700GS and lvl 65, so its like i am not avaliablke to play anymore. Plus transmog they said its gonna be as an update not as a paying thing to do. This DLC made me sad a lot, since i do have 2k hours in the game, but i wont pay 30€ for a single dungeon a what new mobs? A mamoth and a guerila? Haha where is the creativety in this? So yeah sadly i wont buy the dlc and i also dont recoment any1 to buy it.

Great video! Thanks for making sure my money stays away from amazon. Even after 2 years it sounds like the devs are still trying their hardest to not make a good game.

This is most evident on reddit, where ANY criticism to the game is met with a flood of downvotes, despite how constructive that criticism is. You're playing the worst mmorpg ever made with the best graphics and sound ever made, but apart from that everything designed in the game is either boring or outright stupid. The game can be summed up to chest runs, mutations and OPR and the activities in it ALL revolve around getting better gear so you can do the same chest runs, mutations and OPR. It's the very definition of shallow. Cheats still work, duping still works, wars are still a lagfest exclusive to clicks, combat is extremely boring with 6 skills and spamming 1, territory influence and taxes are absolutely stupid, mounts are designed by an amish electrician(they literally have 4 articulations), the world has nothing cool to do in, desync and crashing paradise, they replaced RNG with a shitton of timegames, all systems in the game are by design meant to keep you playing longer not make you want to play longer by being fun. You can still get banned if you type "salad" in game and someone reports it for racism. Market is ruined by bots and dupers selling coin for real cash, even fresh start servers had coin sellers 3 minutes after they launched. The game is objectively bad, you're just stuck with it because of your time(and/or money) investment going to waste otherwise. It's called sunken cost fallacy and every new world player suffers from it, myself included. I played it for 3.6k hours purely because I was given a leadership role and had close friends in it. It's one of my biggest regrets and you'll be in my position as well in due time.

Picked er back up when Brimstone released and it was all just zerg rushes for chests. Kinda fun for a bit but ultimately the game is nothing.

You need to check on the p2w since thats not really a thing. Since lvling is essy no one cares about the xp boosters, u can get transmog for free in game too. Otherwise i agree with pretty much everything else.

the game need more end game fr more mode real raids more fun things to do after 1m we will back to same thing spam Opr and arena its same game fr sad to see this for new world i hope they will fix the game in s4 and s5
