New Wars and Revolutions - Demobilisation I THE GREAT WAR January 1919

In our first new episode, our host Jesse takes a look at the German Revolution of 1918/1919 and how the Spartacists under Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg tried to take power. We also take a look at the new conflicts that emerge right after the supposed "war to end all wars" and explain how the massive armies of the great powers were demobilized.

WE'RE BACK! What did you think about our first new episode with a brand new concept and, of course, a brand new host? We're glad you're on this new journey with us and we hope you enjoyed our first step together in a new direction. If you missed our coverage of the Paris Peace Conference, you will just need to wait a little longer till our next episode. We will be much more diligent about our sources and sourcing from now on. You can usually find sources for certain statements on screen or in the subtitles as well as all sources used for an episode in the video description

While I don't think Jesse is as charismatic as Indy, he has a very professional quality to him in place of it. It might be because Indy's background is as an entertainer when it comes to being in front of the camera, so their presentation is different. I think it's a great fit for the documentary style of the channel, and it also is respectful of Indy by echoing your (Flo's) previous statement of not trying to replace him. Even as a first episode, this definitely already is fulfilling the promise of quality and depth with excellent narration. Great work all around.

It's nice to see you guys back in action. To the new host, I believe you will hit your stride and find a nice balance between presenting the show and letting your personality come out. It took Indy a number of episodes before he "settled" into his role and transcended being the host; he became completely woven into the show and apart of its DNA. I'm positive you will settle as well and fuse into the show itself, just as Indy did.

That ending quote hit me so hard. It must have been so terrible for those men i know they lived unlike those who fought and died but those who survived must of carried such a guilt because they were there and i feel so bad. At least they kept their lives but i'm sure so many of them suffered terribly because of the guilt.

If you remember the excellent Young Indiana Jones, it showed a lot of history of 1910-1920 that were little known to most people in the 90s. We need more TV like that.

What you say at 14:44 is incorrect. The Russians among the Spartacists included Soviet government representatives like Karl Radek, who was part of the Soviet coup in Russia a few years before. Radek was one of the passengers on the sealed train that carried Lenin and other Russian revolutionaries through Germany after the February Revolution in Russia. Despite involvement in the Spartacist uprising, he was released after a year, and returned to Russia to serve as Secretary of the Comintern.

Love that Canadian pronunciation! and Jesse has a great accent in German. A keeper! This is a critical historical period, including Versailles. Keep it coming. I hope we get weekly episodes, after catching up with February. And the 12 minute episodes were about the right length, although I enjoyed this one.
