I would be very impressed to visit your shop. Table saw, lathe, CNC machine, band saw, drill press, dust collection system. So many great tools. Can I borrow your compass? 🤣

I gotta get me one of those face plates for bowls. I did one of those dovetail holes so my chuck would hold it for my first bowl...and while it came out okay, I bet it'd be a whole lot easier with one of those large faceplates. I have a set of carbide tools coming. Right now all I have is an HSS set and no jig to set them in on my grinder for when they get dull. I just have a regular speed 8" grinder, but I can lower its speed by simply plugging it into a variac (Variable voltage transformer) and lowering its speed by lowering the voltage to whatever I want. You have a nice shop! I have a few shop tools, but most are a bit old, but work fine. Rockwell 9" contractor table saw, Master Mechanic miter/chop saw, Wen tabletop belt/disc sander, Skil tabletop bandsaw, Central Machinery mini lathe, Campbell Hausfeld 60 gallon 2 stage compressor, etc. but I have to keep it kinda small as my shop is a one-car garage built in about 1940. I did upgrade to a breaker box from the old fuse box in there when I added the compressor and then ran new 12/3 wire on 4 more circuits for 4 more outlets than the single outlet it started with, lol. Have it lit with a lot of 4' florescent tubes as it was a year after I installed them that the LED tubes came out. First thing I ever did to that garage though was paint the cinderblock walls and plywood ceiling white so it is well lit in there.

That toy with the ball, has anyone ever got it! It seems impossible to accomplish, however, watching it makes me want to try 🤣

If you dont have a chuck, you can use a glue block between the piece and the face plate. A sacrificial piece. The side towards the faceplate is the bottom and can be carefully parted off at the end, or near parted off and the nub can be sanded down.

You made the bowl in reverse from the norm (work on base first then the hollowing). The faceplate connection would be hollowed out eliminating the screw holes.

Interesting....I picked up a lathe a couple months ago and I work on my skills as time allows (yes, I suck). I have some 1' material (cherry) but no thicker material. Is it possible to glue (laminate the material to make 2" thick blanks or is that a recipe for disaster?
