    You are a Bushcraft Beast, Felix. That was a lot of work condensed into a few minutes for the video. I would wilt under all of that effort. No small task and you blasted through it like a hot knife through butter. You are the “Bushcraft Beast” for sure. I have seen video reviews that suggest the Venture is not a durable knife for tough bushcraft tasks, but you prove them wrong. Well done, Felix. Well done.

    Quite a stable camp table! You said "Not super stable", but the design is very efficient enough, that to add a couple of cross pieces between the legs at the base, would make it super stable - so, *EXCELLENT DESIGN* !! 🙂

    Wow, such a simple concept! I think I'll get out to my workshop this week and make a takedown table like this. Sometimes we make a light supper, chicken salad and pasta, or similar and take it out to one of our favorite spots in the Arizona desert and watch the sunset while enjoying supper. This would be perfect for that. I may even try to figure out how to add a cross piece to the legs to make it a little more stable.

    Another great project ..... some optional improvements for table 3.0 ...... with a little more planning you can really "value add" to this great concept. • Help drill to bite maybe you could fire harden the areas of wood you are going to drill? • Taper leg frames out at bottom for more stability ...... could even make them from larger stock and much wider including more cross braces to accommodate bench seats like a park picnic bench (much bigger project! Heaps of functionallity!) • Add more cross members at bottom of table leg frames (you could even use two similar to top end but have optional wider gap space for a different table top height? ..... if you didn't go with the bench seat idea) • Construct leg frame cross members a little differently use saw to create hard shoulder on sockets then whittle/carve dowel ends and ensure they are all same, with hard shoulders (not tapered dowel ends), this will give consistent leg frame dimensions to the construction and if you add a simple twisted double cordage strainer you can make the frames more dissassembleable and more ridgid (if you want tight fit carve pegs square the take edges to octagonal with the flats to hole dimension the octagon corners will be a little oversized but will form tight friction fit) • All done .... if you wanted/needed to increase strength/more longevity for the construction you could add binding/lashing to securely lock in the frames ..... one of the best ways could be to ribbon strip plastic drink bottles and lightly flame to shrink/tighten after lashing Sounds a lot but really are just small tweeks to a fantastic concept that could yield a great outcome.

    I love your content, when I look at furniture projects like this, I can't help wondering if you might not be better off making better tools? Maybe make yourself a brace to use the flat bit more effectively/easily. I did some projects with a hand auger, and with a brace and bit... the brace and bit romped home as the winner.

    You are absolutley right. But i want to show, what is possible with just the flat drill from the tool kit from the Venture. Of course an auger is 5 times better but also 5 times bigger and heavyer. You only have an Auger with you if you plan to take it with you. But you always have the flat drill with you in your tool set. That's the idea behind it.

    Hi, Felix. Somehow I overlooked this video when you first posted it. I love this concept for a bush table! AND it's a takedown design! Super! I'm a little surprized that the screw of the bit tore out of the wood. Those bits are used to drill through pine boards for routing electrical wiring all the time, and I'm pretty sure that pine is softer than Birch. When you say the wood is too soft for the screw to pull the blade through, are you saying that it tears out just near the END of the hole or does it tear out in the middle of the hole also? If it is just at the end of the hole, I have two suggestions. Perhaps you could start the drilling on the curved side of the split log and lay the flat side hard against another flat board for support. That would allow the screw to engage the second board as it emerges from the first board and that might pull the blade through. The second idea is to drill the holes before you split the wood for the legs. That way you would easily get four holes in two of the legs (after splitting), and only have to struggle with the four holes formed by the exiting drill on the other half of the log, instead of all eight holes. If the exit end of the hole is NOT what is causing the problem, then my suggestions are worthless. Maybe honing the cutting edge of the drill bit would help or using a spiral bit instead of a flat bit. A spiral bit will still cut well, even if the screw tears out, so long as you can apply downward pressure. I'm really enjoying the Venture Project series. Ciao!

    Thanks a lot for your super interesting comment and thanks a lot for your tip! The birch i used was may be already on the ground since a year. Birch rots very quickly... that's why it wasn't the best wood and quite soft.

    Surely Venture series looks great and its features are well designed, and your creativeness and skills are ever so wonderful. But I wonder, is there some remarkable tasks that the Venture series knives can take, but that the regular 91 mm SAK’s cannot handle?

  • @FelixImmler

    @FelixImmler

    7 ай бұрын

    The stability of a fixed blade is significantly higher. ...and the cutting performance is also higher than that of a Swiss army knife. In combination with the flat drill, the Venture can do a lot that a SAK cannot. It's best to have both 🤣

    Nice work as always Felix. If you press down on the table while using the side of your foot to spread the legs outward, it will stabilize better. Baton them down too and it should be rock-solid.

    @@FelixImmler Exactly! I just think maybe Victorinox overdid the Marketing on the "can do it all perfectly" side of things a bit! So the Venture does what it is designed for very well. Anyway, chopping, splitting and hammering are things reserved for other tools that are designed to cope with them (like my Cold Steel Trail Master!). Awesome table, by the way! 👍👌
