Duh! The results of this study has been pretty self evident for a long time now. Social Media needs to be regulated more like a public utility and take more responsibility for what happens on their platforms. They are doing great harm to society as it is now.

Isn’t it, duh? I’ve always been an opponent of social media. I’ve never been able to fathom the publishing of one’s diary! In one’s own lifetime? I’m Generation X, and the idea of willingly giving up my personal information, photos of my children, goes against the grain. Surveillance has always been an issue for me. Now we have children running the world with unformed opinions. I’d be very happy if it was all shut down completely. 🌹❤️

The simple premise is this: Social media is corrosive. It's nice to see a study quantify the phenomenon. But, the conclusion has been in plain sight for any objective observer over the past decade. Regulate the platforms, hold them accountable, treat them as publishers.

We already knew this. I deleted my Facebook account months ago. Never felt better. Also, don't watch news after 5, after 5 it's all opinion

Social media companies are responsible for what's on their platforms. They need to be held to the same standards as newspapers for the truthfulness of what's published on their platforms. Otherwise, they need to be sued out of business.

Before, most stories were picked out of biased influencers, but now anyone from anywhere, can record and upload it and it becomes news. We’re left to figure out the truth for ourselves, when before your local news anchor was telling us what to believe. Social media has also changed families that no longer eat together at the dinner table, now everyone is on their phone. Kids can research and fact check their parents, teachers and even politicians nowadays. It will never go back to the way it was, we must learn how to make it better but keep to the authentic truth of it at the same time.
