The overarching story was so strong it inspired content to this day and keeps bringing new fans in. The media illiteracy is strong with this one.

The "plan" for the prequels was also to be a six hour toy commercial while showcasing George's new movie making cgi. That's why the toys sold like gangbusters despite the movies being massively hated.

Ive loved Star Wars for 30 years. I was the type of fan at the midnight screening of every Prequel and tracked down a bootleg of the Holiday Special before it was easily found online because I just wanted to experience every drop of Star Wars. And I have no desire to see a Rey movie or anything Sequel related. So well done Disney, you made me not care anymore.

Didn’t we already get a whole Rey trilogy

I find it telling that after Rise of Skywalker, Disney bolted away from the Sequel Trilogy. The Sequels are pretty much the reason why I haven’t been able to care any of the recent series, no matter how much people have said they were good.

I’m pretty skeptical about continuing Star Wars with Rey as the main character but I do have some hope this movie will be good. The sequel trilogy was pretty bad overall but we also got some good stuff from Disney Star Wars like Rogue One, Andor, and the first 2 seasons of Mando.

Shockingly bad idea. Nobody cares. Leave star wars for 10 years let us get excited for it again

She's had some brilliant movies outside of star wars. I'd love to see her as a villain in a spy or espionage type film. She's amazing in every role she's had

They need to build characters and show us their journey in these movies. Not just action but a good story telling is the one i miss the most. She is a good actress. But it doesn’t matter if the story is sh*t

I have zero excitement for this movie. I certainly won't be going to the theater for it, maybe not even watch it on D+ lol

Even if this movie is good, all that’s going to do is just make people say: “Why didn’t you do that before?!” Also, any story that involves the rebuilding of the Jedi Order will make people say: “Yeah, that’s what we wanted with Luke Skywalker”

...I think people are WAY TOO PISSED at the sequel trilogy to give it a chance after everything that happened. it'd be nice if they learned what REALLY DIDN'T WORK in those movies and somehow whatever state Rey's character is in, works really well as a fresh start with a plan, that'd be awesome and great. but I think Disney Star Wars is going to have to work really hard to earn the fanbase's trust back again. i think like this show has said before, maybe they either jump backwards to Old Republic and do adaptations of that. or you skip forward in time. No Skywalkers and maybe do some other focus in this galaxy. no idea what. but pick something, and have a well thought out plan. it could be good. At least i hope it is, since Dave Filloni is a Chief Creative Officer here. I hope he steers it in a positive direction that the fanbase will get excited for and be more open to.

@kcc7119 Don't see that happening. At most, they'll skip forward in time. And technically reboot it and be really vague about the sequel trilogy as far as whether it is Canon. They won't outright say it, but it may as well be. But probably won't be able to for some legal reason or something. That's just a random guess for one way they might do your suggestion. But I don't think it'll happen.

I just don’t care two hoots about Rey Reys arc in the ST was basically non existent. And her motivations made little sense to me. So I honestly can’t see why she would even want to be a jedi master. Move forward in time 100 years and tell new stories. New characters. Keep the ST characters to books and comics

Palpatine needs to haunt Rey - turn her to the dark side and Finn has to step up and be a Jedi. That I would watch 🙌

If it's good or even great - people will watch it. Saying "half" of the audience isn't interested is wild. $4.5 Billion in ticket sales and over a billion in digital and physical media sales for the sequel trilogy. And they did that without it even being that good. I find the argument "It won't work" very unimaginative.

@@blackseed68 The Marvels flopped because the MCU has become over saturated at this point and the two characters teaming up with Captain Marvel were introduced in Disney+ shows that not everyone saw.

They better bring Adam Driver back as Ben Solo, the actual last Skywalker, and more people will instantly be more excited for the movie. Rey and Kylo's dynamic and connection was easily the best part of the sequel trilogy.

@@TwinRiver100 Yes. He loves Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. He has talked about how he's one of his favorite characters, and he already said that he's not against the idea of coming back. He just wants to work with great filmmakers and material, so if the script is right I'm sure getting him back is not a problem.

It boggles my mind that an Andor level show about Darth Plagueis and younger Palpatine’s apprenticeship hasn’t been adapted from James Luceno’s novel. I don’t care if it’s “EU”, the story doesn’t distort existing lore, in fact it leads right up into the prequels and I enjoy those movies to a degree I never did before reading that book and seeing how a lot of the pieces in those movies are there because of decades of Sith machination. You just have to have the right cast and production team but the material is sitting right there.

You know what? My wife, mother in-law, my sister in-law, both of my sisters, my daughter and all the women I work with never shut up about star wars and they've seen all the movies multiple times. WAIT...WAIT! I mean they hate Star Wars and have absolutely no interest in it, I've asked them. In fact they would all rather watch a Hallmark movie then any Star Wars film, always. Who are they making these movies for?

I grew up on ep 4, 5 and 6 btw not that it matters - trying to gatekeep the way you are right now is cringe. I'm excited! Hopefully it'll be well thought out. I love Rey in Star Wars. In my opinion. Guess we'll see.

There's more to the character than the talent who plays them on screen. Other things like the writing play a huge part too. Mess up the writing, and you get stuff like Boba Fett’s mannerisms in Book of Boba Fett. Or Luke's mannerisms in The Last Jedi, or Jar Jar Binks existing in the Prequels, or Ewoks existing in Episode 6, etc. Rey the character was never the problem, any more than Finn or Poe. The sequel trilogy was just badly made which means the ones who produced, wrote and directed the movie are the real folks to be wary of. If you see news like JJ Abrams getting "the gang" back together to make another Star Wars, that's when you should be really worried.

I like Daisy Ridley. And I liked Rey in Force Awakens. But there is no shame in admitting Rey was a Mary Sue from beginning to end. Disney missed their chance. Nobody wants to see that again.

Sorry. Just not hyped for anything Star Wars related anymore.

I will never forgive them for wiping out the Skywalker bloodline all just to promote Rey as the future of Star Wars. The Skywalkers were great. Their story had love, tragedy, adventure, horror, everything. What did we get with Rey? An op scavenger girl that learned to fly the god damn Millennium Falcon and how to wield a lightsaber and use the Force in one movie. Only to then find out her parents were no one with no special lineage to then being changed at the last minute to being the Granddaughter of the Emperor. All while horribly changing Luke’s character and having it that he tried to kill his nephew and making it that Leia never chose to complete her Jedi training and who’s only purpose was to be the mother of the new villain Kylo Ren. A new character with potential that was seriously mishandled by the writers. They did the Skywalker family dirty and they wiped out their bloodline so they could promote their new character and her friends. Resulting in the removal of the family George Lucas created that helped make Star Wars famous and beloved. I don’t care that Rey calls herself a Skywalker, she’s not one. I don’t blame Daisy Ridley and I understand that Star Wars doesn’t always have to focus on the Skywalkers but what Disney did to them……should not be forgiven.

I’d go see the movie; I enjoyed all of the sequel trilogy and had no major gripes outside of the “Somehow, Palpetine returned” line with them, personally. That being said, I don’t know if grey Jedi are still a thing in the canon anymore, but I’d like to see a movie(s) of a three-way war between the Jedi, Sith, and a grey jedi trying to restore balance between the two sides of the Force. I don’t know if there’s anything out there like that, but I think that would make for some interesting viewing.

As long as KK has anything to say at Lucasfilm I have no hope at all to see something good. Would be happy to be proven wrong but I don't think that will happen.

We'll see, as it seems, a big complaint was the writing of the show was poor. BUT, we'll see how it goes. Still, if LUCAS isn't thrilled, why bother.

I think they HAVE to keep going forward becuse the only other idea i think would be the next best idea is going back thousands of years for another set of jedi/sith conflicts for a big film I cant imagine anything other than a far distant prequel, continuing with Rey, or hard reset (not sure how i would ever feel about that last one)

It's a shame - I do think Daisy Ridley is talented. Even though I disliked The Last Jedi - I think Johnson pulled a great performance from her. But Rey's arc was basically a flat line - I can't see how they can recover the character really. But just to put it in perspective - even though I like Ron Howard as a director - I don't really care about Han Solo either now!

It is the only SW project that I’m excited about because it’s the only one that pushes the story forward.

I'm not interested in any new Star Wars movies after they seem to replace Luke Skywalker. I have absolutely no problems with Rey being the future of the franchise, but I'm in my opinion luke was removed far too quickly. It's just my opinion but I think the handoff was done hastily and I have no desire to see anything further in the theater. They don't need my money anyway

Just match the fun and entertainment of the original trilogy and everything will be fine.

I don't see a version of this movie that gets the people back on board with Star Wars. I despise the ST but I'm still mildly curious about this one.

I am actually really excited for this movie. This character had so much potential and I really hope it's daisy's redemption and a chance to truly make this character what it should be Also.. This is my big question: is Dave Filoni behind this Rey movie? Does he get a say, as the new Creative Director of Lucas Films? Because in Filoni I trust. But another question I have is: who is going to direct this movie? Who wrote the screenplay? I think we have seen from the most recent Star Wars shows and movies, the screenplay is incredibly important and the director is monumental. Because some directors get it, and some do not. Now if you're saying someone like Jon Favreau, Bryce Dallas Howard, or Taiki Waititi will direct this movie, those are people I would get excited over. Or imagine for a moment if Quentin Tarantino or Christopher Nolan were to direct a Star Wars movie. That would just be bonkers and Disney can just take my money now.

I was surprised at people's adoration already from the first viewing. I find it impossible not to see that it's just a poor carbon copy of ANH and it also set up the entire sequel trilogy to ruin the original trilogy by having the conflict be about the same war as before, meaning that the climax of RotJ never really meant that much. The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker only continued that dismantling of the past, they didn't start it.

No one is excited about this. The sequel trilogy was god awful.

For what it's worth, the clone wars show was great and it made the prequels better as well. Feloni seems to be at his most creative when he has to work within constraints. And actually that's part of the secret sauce of any succesful story, including the original star wars films. So I'm not against this myself but I do think it is a bad idea simply because it has the fanbase against it out of the gate.

An old Republic would be great and you can base that dark ribbon. Because he was good bad. Then good again and you can do that for 3 sequals.

At the very least, Daisy Ridley would need to do some Kendo/Kenjutsu training. Great fight scenes can do a lot for a movie, especially when the writing is a bit iffy like the prequels, John Wick 2-4, Matrix 2-3 etc. Perfect fight choreographer and action director for that part would be Kenji Tanigaki, who was responsible for choreographing the fight scenes in the live action Rurouni Kenshin movies. The level of sword-fights in those movies were even above that of The Old Republic trailers.

I agree with all of that, except one as far as Rey’s story. Like it or not, isn’t she the only future for the Jedi? Training them and what not?

Rey is such a boring character. I would happily watch a new saga with a female protagonist - I literally don't care what gender they are as long AS THE MOVIE IS ACTUALLY COMPELLING.

Disney dont learn from their mistakes. How is this gonna be any different?

Star Wars give me imagination again. Give me risk, give me operatic sets, give me something with vision. These movies changed the movie industry, and you’ve become complacent. No movies should be released until there is a visionary with a brand new plan in a new era with new characters. No strings attached. Even if you fail being new, just go for it.

What gets me more excited than the movie itself, Is that by the time this movie releases, It will have been a decade since The Force Awakens, Which means the 8-10 year old children who saw that movie, Will be adults. And just those who grew up with the prequels, The sequel trilogy generation will be grown up and able to explain why it’s their Star Wars.

I'm surprised that the red flag for you was with Rey being the focus of the new set of films and not her statement that that implies that they really only have one film story finalized, since she says she knows the story for just one film. The thing that sunk the sequel trilogy was the perceived lack of continuity of story and vision from TFA->TLJ->ROS, notably from TFA to TLJ. Are they repeating the same mistake by not having a planned out arc amongst multiple movies, and the actor who is supposed to play the main character has no idea how the story will unfold past the first movie?

Anakin ended the Sith and brought balance, according to Lucas cannon. The dark side still exists of course, but not the Sith religion.

Dave could really make this film great now that he has more creative power just sucks we have to wait years before it comes out

I think the reason why Daisy Ridley had agreed and decide to come back to SW is because her career hasn't really taken off since TROS to be honest. For example, her latest movie The Marsh King's Daugher was not a box office success neither her other non-SW films.

@thehacker4012 I agree she has some critical acclaim performances but not any commercial/box office successes outside of SW. I've haven't seen the other things she's done but purely from a box office standpoint they did not do well especially the one she did with Tom Holland called Chaos Walking. Daisy is a great actress and I like her personally based on the interviews I've seen her in. It's not her fault as to why her other movies haven't done well commercially which is why I believe she agreed to come back as to somewhat a reintroduction to the mass/general audience.

Have the Cohan brother write all 3 and have Devin Villaneu direct it with Hans Zimmer doing the score.

The fact that this is comming is just another reason why Disney SW is failing the fans. no one is asking for this!?

What else is she supposed to say? She probably knows the audience's reception toward Rey at this point, but she has to do what she can to build up hype for the movie.
