That 27k is for the 1.0tsi. I would not really want that on a car this size unless I only drove in town. Especially if the 1.5 is also fairly sluggish.

Why buy a new car for 27K with a small engine when you could get a nice used one with a few miles. I recently got a 2020 Skoda Octavia VRS Challenge from an official dealership for £22,000 with 20,000 miles on the clock in that nano grey. Perfect 🎉

The 1.5 engine also happens to be a vw evo engine so when cruising about town or on the motor way with cruise control on it'll shut down 2 cylinders to make you use less fuel and then reactivate them as soon as you floor it. The transition between all 4 cylinders to 2 is unnoticed and only real indicator its even happened is when you see the little blue eco light come up on the dash
Rory reid is a gem. I have been working on a cargo ship for 6 months with no internet and the only things i used to watch were saved autotrader videos of rory and brooklyn 99 re-runs. Listening to him after a stressful day of work is just like unwinding.
great review as always! Hello from Portugal 👋
It's a minimum 12month wait for a 1.5L petrol variant. That engine is being used in the following... AUDI A1, A2, Q2, Q3. CUPRA Ateca, Formentor, Leon. SEAT Arona, Ateca, Leon, Terraco. SKODA Fabia, Kamiq, Karoq, Kodiaq, Octavia, Scala, Supberb. VOLKSWAGEN Golf, Passat, Taigo, T-Cross, Tiguan, Tiguan AllSpace, Touran, T-Roc.
Just ordered an SE L DSG from my local dealer. 20 week wait for delivery but having driven a few others in the same class, this Karoq just feels solid and well put together, easy to drive and has the benefit of "real" buttons for the climate control (which is sadly lacking is so many iPad cars today). Thanks Rory, your review tipped the balance and sold me on this car (along with a quick test drive of course). Cheers 👍
“The dashboard is the dashboard,” that’s really interesting. Highly functional design approach with less aesthetics. Ideal for the minimalists that have children and also fantastic for the price
I thought this was similar to Tiguan not T-Cross. Am I wrong?

I have the same car. Same colour in 2023 SportLine trim but with a 2.0L TSI paired with a 7spd DSG and 4x4. I almost got the VW Tiguan but the Skoda was just better value with the same VW technology with slightly cheaper optionals. All-in-all, it came to £41,000 whereas the VW was about £46,500 (the 2.0L petrol 4x4 raises the price quite a bit and so did some of the optional extras; ACC, DCC, winter pack, etc, etc)

We also got the sportline trim bc we really think you get a lot for what you pay extra since the basic non sportline really looks basic and not nice in my opinion 😊
Great unbiased review. I ordered a Karoq 1.5 with DSG two days ago.
Why do so many car critics think that Apple car play is the only system for phone connection? Most people use Android Auto, yet you never even mentioned it. Why?
I've drove few times previous Karoq generation - quite a nice car. Little smaller then Tiguan but weight/power difference makes it stiffer and sportier, even if this car have nothing to do with "sport")
Love the interior, knobs, buttons, switches from the best VW era, heavenly compared to capacitive BS trend
Love the fact they have gone back to the old infotainment system after the crap, new buggy one I have in my Octavia.
Just upgraded from 21 plate se drive to a sporline. Think the was better with the regular seats and for some reason even though it is the same engine the se drive was a bit more responsive in its regular drive mode
I've had my new 1.5 day sportline for 2 months. Is a good solid car. Nothing special performance wise though. Had a 20 plate 2.0 tsi version before this. Much quicker and more fun but cost a lot in fuel. Good honest review Rory.

I'd like to try one. I have the 2020 model and it's a good family car. Drives pretty good. But engine noise and general quality is way down on the Tiguan. Why can't skoda sort out the suspension noise?
2.0, automatic diesel is an excellent car. I rented that a few days ago and it was a good experience.
Varioflex seats, are like old seats but better as they come out (like my scenic) So, VW group, why aren't they on all your hatches/estates/buzzs?
Wow! Thank you, sir
excellent review
Pretty sure varioflex seats only available on sel trim as standard , not sportline
I decided for the SE-L version instead, and so far no regrets at all
In Australia the sportline only comes with a 2ltr petrol turbo and 7spd DSG. Much better performance (0-100 7sec) than model tested here. Is that not available in UK?

Whats the fuel efficiency. Some reviewers say 34mpg. A few say 30mpg.
I had little interest in this car until I realised that it has control buttons and knobs for the heating controls instead of a distracting screen to navigate
Can’t wait for this awesome car to be launched in India !!!!
I've owned a '68 plate 150bhp Karoq SE L TDI SCR 4x4 manual diesel since July '21 when it had 23K miles on the clock. I've since doubled that figure. It's also white, and looking at this '23 Karoq they look virtually the same. I love the design which doesn't seem to date. I agree with Rory that you should go for the varioflex seats where possible. I have moved mountains in the back of my car with the seats folded and removed completely. Seats upright: 521 litres; folded, 1630 litres; and a whopping 1810 litres with the seats removed. And the seats can be removed individually or all together, or the middle seat can be removed and the two outer seats repositioned to give two passengers in the rear even more elbow room. And the clever engineering means the seats can be individually removed and reinstalled in seconds rather than minutes, with practice. I find the engine punchy for a mid-sized SUV with (new) torque of 251 ft Ibs and 340 newton metres. I also like the manual gears which gives me more connection with the car. When I look at possible alternatives, I just never find anything so solid and versatile and easy to drive as this car. So when it comes to changing, I will go for another Karoq 4x4. Unless they reimagine the Yeti as a soft hybrid 4x4 with a spare wheel on the back, like my first CRV.

5.13 its Karoq, not Kodiaq :D
Unfortunately the 1.5 is not the VW mild hybrid version which should really be a.minimum eco requirement in 2023 due to effective engine shutdown in urban use. It would also boost the low down torque a bit. Otherwise this is the best small SUV going for comfort and practicality.

What trim is yours?
No 2 litre option anymore?
I have the 2 litre tdi manual, the mpg is poor, 40 if I'm lucky, I'm told by thd dealer nothing can be done, the idling speed is high but they say this cannot be altered! If the diagnostic doesn't find anything there is no fault according to them!
Seats with fixed headrests that fit only people with a certain height range are a liability in a car like this. Besides, under 9 seconds is not 'sluggish' in a real world.
Them birds 😂
God save us from those fake exhaust tip nonsense. Manufacturers should at least offer trims without the fakery, sports car or not. Sales would go up, just saying...
Oh man, if Karoq is a little car, then I don't know where we are heading. 😀 Fun fact: the first generation of VW Golf was smaller than today's VW Polo. 🙂🙂
what's a Kodiaq? 5:14
I have its twin on my own, a Seat Ateca 1.5L 110 kw petrol engine, FR with DSG 7 speed gearbox. I totally agree with Rory, it is a very good family car, very well built and equipped, not too huge to manouver, not too expensive to mantain, spacious, comfortable and practical as a family car should be. To drive? Agree again, nothing particularly special, not very involving but pretty good, solid and relaxing. In my opinion, the 1.0 TSI engine is absolutely downsized for this car, the 1.5 L is enough to move it smoothly, the 2.0 TSI and TDI' are for "heavy duties", like a trailer to bring. Good car, then
5:14 you said kodiaq while it’s the karroq

A door bin for your rubbish. As a young lad, I wish my car from 40+ years ago had one. _I just never knew what to do with those used condoms!_ ;-))...
My wife had a 19 plate Karoq 1.5 DSG Edition model with the Vario seats, pan roof, leather interior etc. Great car with loads of space & a flexible boot. It was time for us to go electric. Skoda don't offer an electric car (anymore) so so we traded it in a couple of months ago for a used 22 plate Kona Ultimate which is a bit smaller but will cost far less to run & will only ever be charged up at home.

The best family car out there by a long shot is the Dacia Jogger. Nothing comes close and it's only around £20k. I've had many cars including family SUV's that exceed £30k, and although they may have nice but useless touches like a soft touch dashboard that you never actually touch and autonomous features that you can actually do yourself, they dont even come close to what the Jogger offers. The main thing is I'm spending half in monthly payments now and the car is an actual joy to own. If you're looking for a great family car, seriously consider it. At least go and have a look, I bet you'd be pleasantly surprised like I was, and I came from a 4 year old RAV4 Excel.
Honestly? I'd rather have an Enyaq.

Karoq is not a good car. It is not bad to look at and it has nice interior, but the ride is not great. It is jumpy as a goat and if you take a bend little bit faster, you have the feeling, it will roll on its side. Infotainment does not work properrly etc.
The DSG is too expensive to lease for what it is and the manual is too slow. i think i will leave it then!
