I think the vent thing is a peek hole for the spotter-shieldbearer to look through safely.

I love how one of the shield rats is not at all bothered about actually being behind and protected by the shield - he's just there for his BFFL aiming the rifle.

The shield bulges are view ports, I reckon. They look like some of the existing minis eye accessories.

I think the vent on the shield is for looking through the shield.

The vent could be a slot to look through as the shieldbearer is fully in cover. Love that the jezzails all three are different.

As a space marine and tyranid enjoyer I can confirm my next choice of army is going to be Skaven.

It’s just a shame that anything other than Skaven come out of the launch set box! Would be so cool to open the box and it’s full of Skaven and just bits of Stormcast armour and a few bones with tooth marks showing where the flesh has been torn away….thats a bit dark isn’t it!

I feel similar, except I'd prefer no Skaven except a bunch of bones of them. I don't care for them at all. Glad others love them tho

Vent thing: I think it’s where the handle of the shield is. Protecting the hand

Pretty sure those bulges on the shields are just a carry over from real shields, they’re just to make room for your hand while holding the shields. I think they were called a shield boss. The sculptor likely took the historic shield as inspiration and added their own flair with the vent/grill aesthetic.

The vents also match up aesthetically with the Kharadron Overlords(same as how their gas guns work) grills so fit together better with the Mortal Realms setting.

The bubble in the shield is probably for the shield ray to see through the holes

Fun enough the Skaven gun work the same way Kharadon guns woek as they fire pressurized radiation that transmutate into a shard before turning back to radiation

Exactly! Love the similar themes and aesthetics they both have now as the two most advanced steampunk races with matching grills, wiring, pumps and spherical chamber guns. Makes the Skaven feel better ingrained into the Mortal Realms setting.

The new Skaven figs look great, if I could control myself I would get a few just ot paint them. But I know if I buy some I will end up getting an entire army and I have no time to paint an entire new army (I ned to finish all my other armies first) and I don't think I can afford it either.

I love them. Admittedly I would take literally all the Skaven if I had the money...and the space to put them

The 'vent' is the vision slit.

The warpstone gas physics is completely backwards. Agreed, it doesn't matter, but pressurizing gas should produce liquid (and eventually solid), not the other way. Mad Genius indeed.

It’s mirroring how the Kharadron guns work which also turn aethergold gas into projectiles that burst apart into powerful rays. It’s basically good guy alchemy vs evil alchemy(since warpstone was once sought after for transmutation)

The jezzails look veeeery good. Like the clan rats they seem like they'll mix with older minis well.

Got me thinking of using the ratlads in warcry.

They have completely changed the lore should just be a warp stone bullet. If the bullet pierces your body. The warpstone gets to work. So if your a cavalryman and your horse 🐎 is shot. You could find yourself ridding a tentacle 🐙 monster 👹

Love the sculpt but it’s gonna be sad to see nothing outside of the infantry be muliti part kit can already tell a lot of the skaven stuff will be monopose & be re released from the starter set like the orcs in aos 3

Why didn’t they just say it uses warp stone bullets? It feels like gas is reinventing the wheel for no reason. Nice model though.

I’ve considered picking up the starter set for the new Stormcasts and any terrain included. If I were to sell the skaven stuff online, would anyone happen to know what a reasonable price (as American) would be, and where to put them for sale?

The price depends on what the full starter set will cost. The second half of a starter set usually sells for 35-45% of the full price, see what the price trends are before you decide to sell. Your best bet for selling it is either on eBay or in a local Facebook Warhammer group

Nah, not a core race. Skaven, Lizards, Ogres, Dark elves, daemons & Vampires are AoS exclusives due to being heavily updated there. If they ever get support in TOW it’ll just be the old outdated models thrown in as a hand-me-down.

@richtheunstable3359 They’re eventually gonna get updated when Malerion arrives with Ulgurothi legions. Only question is will those updates go to the Cities of Sigmar Darkling aelves or an overhaul of the Daughters of Khaine getting armored shadowkin & shadow daemons.
