NEW SANTA CRUZ 5010 MTB - No Need for a 29er
Спорт
It's official. All Santa Cruz trail and enduro mountain bikes now look the same, and it's impossible to tell them apart. The last hold out, the playful, 27.5-inch-wheeled 5010, finally gets the lower link VPP treatment. We compare the old 5010 v3 to the new 5010 v4 to see the differences, similarities, and on-trail performance this small-wheeled ripper.
2021 Santa Cruz 5010 v4 Highlights
- 130mm rear travel, 140mm front travel
- Size-specific chainstay lengths
- Larger shock tunnel compatible with 210x50mm shocks, including coil shocks.
- Six build kit options from $4,0999 to 8,099 USD.

This old to new comparison is excellent. Not enough reviews do this to the same level of detail.
Difference between Vital and other sites, Turman can really ride, thus with actuall credibility.

@@REB4444 If your buying a 5010 you should be able to ride dirtjumps and go down gnarly trails or just get the tallboy theres a lot of us that hit all the pro line chunky trails and djs.
I’m on a gen 1 and am still blown away by it. These bikes are getting so damn good. Great time to be a mtn biker for sure.
Brandon with the manny skills on point!
Superb intro and review. Well done!
I love the Vital reviews!
Great review, with looking at a 27.5 playful bike, how would you compare the new 5010 to the Yeti SB140?

Torn between '20 and '21 model, at 6'3" im leaning towards the '21 given the longer reach, can anyone confirm the stretch being noticeable?

The person who made the mini bikes has an Instagram I forgot the name though if you go to Santa cruzs Instagram and find the post about the bike the Instagram will be tagged
I hear from some testers new high flow shock tune is sick on these bikes. As far as I know the chain stay length is increased with different link sizes, can you confirm?

Would you say you can take this bike to places like Moab and Whistler? Or would you say a Bronson would be better. Currently riding a Stumpjumper short travel
@ethanbenton6676
3 жыл бұрын
Bronson would be better at the bike park, its hard to say with Moab, but the 5010 has more modern geo than the Bronson so its not very far behind in capability
With the exception of the new pivot points, the changes aren't frame specific. I'm going to upgrade my V3 fork to a Lyric or 36 and my rear to a RS Super Deluxe, which should make it not only bike park capable but able to take on bigger hits out on local trails.

The 5010 is probably going to be one of the best climbing 27.5s out there. If you want even better you're probably looking at its 29er brother the Tallboy.
@ABHORRANCE831

I bought the Tallboy for the steep climbs where I'm at. However, I'm finding it to be limiting on descents (brakes, shorter travel, etc), and wishing I got a 5010 or a Hightower.
Buying this. Probably going to buy the frame and rear shock and piece my own custom setup. I’m confident I can get this into the 28lb range.

Robin’s Egg V3 is the most beautiful color I’ve ever seen on a frame. And the V3s were sharp and poppy which made them so fun. This V4 looks like a little brother to the Tallboy, with muted aggressiveness and a tamer ride. Seems like the SOLO lost its identity. WTH Santa Cruz?!

low mode has more progressive shock kinematics, slackens the head and seat tube angles, lowers the bb, shortens the reach ever so slightly and drops the stack a little too
good thing is that the older v3 now will be on discount haha
excellent comparison, my height is 5.5 they recommend a size S or size M?
@GoldSK96

If you want to do jumps and playful style the small for sure. If you just want to ride down a hill stable then medium, but then at that point get a Bronson instead
How do you clean that shock ? I mean really how do you clean it without removing the shock ?

Couldn’t you do the same kind of riding on a Bronson? The geometry is not that big of a difference. Or does the 5010 really feel different when you ride it? I like the kind of riding the 5010 is marketing towards,... but I’m just wondering if that’s just marketing and you can do the same kind of riding just as easy on a Bronson...

Lol. Actually the Spec Enduro looks like a SC. SC hit it first. I think Spec may have been the first to go to the lower link driven suspension with the Demo (not sure), but that didn’t look anything like these. The Nomad and the Bronson had the lower link with this look before the Enduro.
Not expensive enough.
