    @Ichijo Festival "Nuance is lost on the right." No. Bill's whole video here is a REFUTATION of that. He's actually complaining that leftist idiots (which means most of them) are incapable of finding difference between seeing a penis and having one forcibly shoved into you against your will.

    @@random_eskimo_in_the_rockies You seemed to have missed the point of the piece in multiple ways. You can walk and chew gum at the same time. Saying "parts of the left can't seem to make distinctions" isn't saying the same thing as " _only_ the left can't make distinctions". He doesn't need to make a case against the right on his show, because everyone who watches generally agrees that the right is at least to some degree cooky. There's no point in saying it, but what does need to be said to a left-leaning crowd is something they may disagree with, which is that the left also has problems. _Also_ has problems. This is not a refutation that nuance is lost from the right.

    Runaway Lady I dont think its about lumping things into one category, I just think some people dont want others to come up with excuses to let things go. Most reasonable people know a pat on the butt isnt as bad as rape. But people are quick to bring up that rape is worse so you will shit up about the smaller things. • @sophonax661

    Mending Wall I see what you mean but in my opinion Gillibrant's statement was not one bit better. Like Bill said, let's have additional discussion. Rape is like groping as apples are like oranges. Absolute nonsense and dismissive against all real victims. I was groped too. So what? I slapped the guy and he backed off. What's the problem? Little girls should be raised to be self-confident and secure in their bodies. Not to complain and shrink and feel offended all day long. Edit: The MeToo movement is actually about harrassment in WORK places, where women can not slap a guy who gropes them. Still we can not pretend all kinds of sexual misbehavior are the same. Franken is not Weinstein or Moore.

And no non-profit is going to say, "Well, our main goals from 42 years ago have pretty much been met and exceeded. I think we're kind of done here" and close shop. So, they have no choice but to keep pushing the envelope farther and farther and more nonsensically away from where it all started. Gotta get those donations in. If nothing happens, no one donates. Except MeToo was never a "just cause" that got perverted over time. It was a cause people saw as having potential to be a force for good but there was never any direction that kept it on anything resembling legitimacy... It is essentially a Riot. The only reason we didn't see it before is because no one broke anything yet.

    I am an atheist living in the other side of the world, in a religious country, and have watched the right and the left wing of western politics and this is my conclusion: Both extremes - far left and far right - have vociferous lunatics trying to promote their ideology by deliberately skewing facts . You don't have to be "conservative", "liberal", "Christian", "Muslim"...or "gender fluid" or whatever. Those are individual preferences and those tend to be fickle . The West has become obsessed with titles. If one doesn't agree to another person's OPINION then that person is deemed to belong to a different faction. Most people are somewhere in the between.

    Its not as strange as we are led to think. The whole idea of a political spectrum was created to make it easier for talking heads to generalize and whip up footsoldiers. Its marketing. Its not real except when you buy into it. George Washington said similar things in his firm opposition to the creation of political parties. Maher plays along with the labelling enough to get a TV show, but in actuality he examines ideas on their own merit - as we all should. It doesn't mean that he's always correct. It means he is at least approaching ideas like a grown-up.

He is right, equating seeing a penis with rape is ridiculous. But I think Kristen Gillibrant has a point that some people focus on what is worse or "degrees" than saying stop this shit altogether. He literally said what Al franken did was a joke. Maybe that is how he meant it and if he were a 19 year old I would forgive him. But a grown government offical should know better. • @Rexidiotarum

    @Rexidiotarum

    Accusing people of being racist has kinda failed to lead to the impact as desired when America finally admitted it was okay with Nazis. The important part of accusing people of racism, reminding your subject that race is an artificial and broken worldview that leads to great harm to specific groups, and it might easily be overlooked if you are not part of that group, failed to resonate with people too stupid to tell insult from criticism, and too narcissistic to take criticism as anything but incrimination. MeToo will probably fail for the same reason, the type of people you'd need to listen to your message to fix the problems will ignore the conversation entirely and just take from it how it impacts them directly. Rather than approaching MeToo as a sign of systemic stress being shunted by a group of people who no longer can take the burdens of objectification, turning and rebuking the systems and members of that system that sustain that burden, MeToo gets turned into a tool of attack against men. Join the Republicans. Bury your head in the sand. Ignore the influence of markets on our lives and rejoice as the bubble our economy sits on is inflated beyond sustainability. Side with the wealthy, the powerful, and the well off, and maybe they'll get around to rewarding you someday. Ignore the world's problems, and ignore anyone who has a problem with your personal or political outlook. Embrace a fiction, fight for your comfort above all others, and act like a victim when your selfishness is called out for what it is. Vote Republican.

I don't want to be associated with Trump, McConnell, Ryan, or any of the laundry-list of Republicans who are 'all about family values' while at the same time trying to take away my right to decide what happens with my own body, AND getting their stupid asses caught in adultery, male prostitution, and telling their children/mistresses to get abortions? Because they don't respect the environment? Because they engage in climate denial? Because they systematically put Creationists in charge of education? Because they put Religion before Politics? Because they're scientifically illiterate? Because they're widely homophobic, sexist, and xenophobic? I could go on about why I don't have any interest in being a Republican. Trey Goudy is the only Republican I can think of who doesn't make me nauseous, and he doesn't call Trump out on his shit, which makes me think Trey is a coward.

    Reaching Higher "what happens with my own body" - what a disingenuous turd you are, aborting a baby 8 months into pregnancy is fucked up , oh and before you hysterically shout "where do you draw the line", well I have a question - Where do YOU draw the line of a child becoming an adult ?? 16 yrs, 17, 18, 19, 20, what ??, well it's the above in many countries. Drawing a line is difficult at times in the absence of any scientific marker so the society settled for a reasonable range based on pre existing science, instead of allowing 11 yrs olds to fuck each other and aborting babies in the 8th month you dunce..........oh and you sound like one of those gullible bums thinking that the bullshit statement of "97% scientists agree about man-made climate change" pushed by CNN (the symbol of honest and integrity) is actually true without taking one minute out of your stupid existence to try and find out the means by which that bogus 97% number was reached. Also, your hysteria is cringe-worthy - there is no mass phenomenon of children all over America being taught creationism and north America recording its coldest winter in decades isn't a shining example of the whole "every year will be hotter than the previous" nonsense that weak minded dunces like you fall for.

    Agreed. As a female who has always been incredibly aware of the potential for sexual harassment and assault, it greatly concerns me that there are a lot of women (or overly enthusiastic 'feminists', regardless of gender) out there who actually *want* to conflate something like an ass grab (which is not okay and if in a work situation should be reported to HR) with actual rape. There are a ton of things in between those two as well. No one can *honestly* say that they think any woman who has to endure being cat-called out perverse, scary, strange, etc. things on the street by men they walk past has the same level of abuse and trauma that rape victims have. Are all things on the 'spectrum' of sexual harassment and assault absolutely terrible? Yes. They all need to be condemned and stopped. But to say that there's no difference is absurd and only hurts the very valid argument underlying it.

    Women have been undermining their own cause for years. Sexual harassment claims are no longer a mechanisms for addressing grievances. They're too often fabricated and wildly exaggerated strategies of a particularly vile nature. And they've become a blood sport. You've overplayed your hand, ladies and you'll pay for it in ways you never expected. Men of character and accomplishment - real skills and education - will turn to women from other cultures big time. As they already have by the tens of thousands. This has never been, simply, about bad behavior because both genders engage in that in the workplace. It's simply that one gender found a way to capitalize on it and will ride that horse until it drops.

    Also cat calling is not sexist. It is because they are sexually attracted to them not because they are prejudiced. If cat calling was due to sexism then incredibly unnatractive women should be cat called equally to incredibly attractive women

    On the other side of the coin, people love to use "it's not as bad as rape" to excuse some behavior that shouldn't be excused. Plus, the kind of attitudes that excuse the "less bad" stuff teaches people (men especially) that what a woman wants, or how she wants to be treated, doesn't really matter, Which leads to rape occurring more frequently, and more blind eyes being turned when it does.

    Then maybe men should stop telling women how to feel. Almost as bad as telling other people how to think (of course we would want to make sure there's a distinction :-P). Oh, and by the way, women don't "need" men for anything. Kind of the point of the whole movement, Davy. :-)

    These crazies have already driven a wedge between men and kids and now they want a wedge between men and women. What sort of hateful puritanical society do they want ????? Yes, there are plenty of scuzzy men - but we're not all rape beasts walking around like silverbacks with out dicks swinging. This anti male bigotry needs to die a death.

    kuman30 there is an important DISTINCTION between alternative media (like youtube) and the mainstream media (including HBO) -- and you know it. There is a reason i get all my news/current events from alternative media: because it isnt all trapped in a bubble needing Bill Maher to explain no brainers to people who should know better. I just think it's past the time for the MSM to catch up to the rest of us.
