New Research Unveils Water on TRAPPIST-1 Planets

Ғылым және технология

Discover the latest findings on the TRAPPIST-1 system! Recent research shows that the outer planets in this fascinating star system likely have significant amounts of water. Located 40 light-years away, TRAPPIST-1's seven Earth-sized planets include some in the habitable zone, where conditions could support life. Learn how these discoveries boost the potential for finding extraterrestrial life and why these planets are key targets for future exploration. Stay tuned for more exciting updates on these distant worlds!

A 2021 study lead by Ekaterina Ilin (Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam, Germany) presented evidence that M dwarf flares tend to emanate from their polar regions, possibly sparing close in planets from direct hits. Their initial data was taken from a small sampling of M dwarf stars from TESS observations, and further studies showed that this may well be the norm. (from Universe Today 8/7/21) This is a pretty major discovery regarding the potential habitability of M dwarf systems.

Wow, this information is really interesting! I am also learning about the TRAPPIST-1 star system and the potential for life there. I wonder if anyone has watched the detailed analysis video of the atmospheres of these planets?

Words in thumbnail are click bait! Significant milestones in research mean there is water' but astrobiologist didn't find any! Got my hopes up' even though I cannot get there.

Yes, the title is misleading. Implies water was detected but no discussion of it. Do better

i like to imagine what our civilization would have been like today if we had multiple habitable planets in our solar system so close together, we would've prioritized space travel decades ago

We probably either waged interplanetary war when one of the other planets had intelligent life, or fucked up earth even more, because we had a backup.

They already have the images. All jwst images are top secret and filtered before the public sees them. We're being lied to all the time. The government is 100 years ahead of the general population in knowledge and technology

We can’t do that, because it may destroy any potential life that already exists on the planet. We would not want aliens doing that same thing to us.

I don’t think that they actually know that much, but since there are no one that can prove them wrong, they can claim anything that they make out from the weak data that their instruments provide.
