100% agree. Eating has been redefined as a recreational activity in modern times. It is extremely difficult to become aware. Folks ask me all the time "How can I do that?" in reference to my obvious weight loss. I tell them. I then receive the response: "I can't do that. I like eating too much." The real gateway drug is, and has always been, sugar. That statement is in no way hyperbolic. It took me way too long to shake that programming.

All I can say is: If I hadn't gone keto for 2 years and then carnivore for the past 2 years, I'd be dead. My doc told 4 years ago my health was so bad, I probably wouldn't make it to 74 because my blood pressure sky high and I was 100 pounds overweight. Today I'm 75, my blood pressure is normal, and I weigh the same as I did when I was 23.

Before I went on a carnivore diet, I followed a "balanced" diet. My diet did not consist of 60% garbage processed foods. 90% of my diet was home cooked meals made by my wife who is an excellent cook. The 10% were my indulgences, ice cream, ginger ale, the occasional bag of chips or popcorn. Yet somehow over the course of my 40's I put on 50 lbs... exercise be damned. If you consume a "balanced diet" where the majority of your energy comes from carbohydrates, your metabolism will eventually have a rebellion, your pancreas becomes tired, your liver has no choice but to turn those extra carbs to fat in order to save you from an even earlier death. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in June 2023. I did not want to die like my father due to complications from T2D, so I decided to try carnivore. In July 2024, at 53 years old, I am thinner than I was in high school, down 60 lbs, my blood work is normal, a plethora of insidious health problems are starting to disappear, and my endocrinologist says I am no longer diabetic. I still enjoy the odd snack, but 90% of my diet is carnivore.

I was raised on the SAD diet as a kid, I was sickly, suffered chronic IBS, fatigue and brain fog. I altered my diet in my adult years to consume mostly vegetables, grains, lean meat and oil because my doctors all said to, I got more sick. I had Hypothyroid, CFS, FM, and if I twisted a cap off of a jar the veins in my hands would rupture. I had osteoarthritis in my hands and spine, torn meniscus in both knees, and I was in agony. I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I couldn't do anything. I wanted to die. I've been on the Carnivore diet for 5 months now and the changes in my health are remarkable. I'm now fast walking with weights for 30 minutes everyday. Never in my life have I been able to do that. My thoughts now of eating vegetables and most fruits is like taking a cyanide pill. I want nothing to do with it. I've found some semblance of health, and no one is going to pee on my leg and tell me it's raining. I won't give up meat.

Former nurse here. Nutritionists don't always know best, and I found this out when I was working in long term care and had about 12 diabetics under my care. A few of them had hyperglycemia episodes daily due to poor diet and desserts offered at the end of meals, so I was injecting extra insulin units daily. One resident would have a fit each time her sugars were high because I didn't allow her to eat dessert. The nutritionist actually told me that regular desserts would not cause a problem, but trust me, they did! She was not the one taking care of the diabetic residents on dialysis, many of whom had various amputations.

What's sad is that you can easily incorporate desserts if you change them up a little. I love desserts, but had to change up my desserts when I switched to low carb. That lead me in the direction of heavy cream desserts. Possets are awesome, versatile, and easy to make in batches. I just use allulose instead of regular sugar. Some carbs from fruit, but it's a very small amount when you compare them to normal desserts.

What kept going through my mind listening to these 2 is that it is the nutritionists and their food pyramid that got us into this problem in the first place. So why would I listen to a classically trained nutritionist? And he's so sure that carnivores must eat fruits and vegetables at some point. In just over a year I have had maybe a few blueberries and very few vegetables. And Dr Westman had discussed many times after eating vegetables you get gastric upset/bloating or diarrhea. I returned to eating one-third cup of frozen kale and one cup of fresh romaine lettuce per day after trying a diet consisting almost entirely of meat, some cheese, and dairy for three months. I put on weight because I stop eating at each meal based on the volume of the food that I consume and I was eating a huge amount of meat. Too much meat for my activity level which is quite high but not high enough to eat that much meat. Adding the leafy green vegetables to two meals makes the volume of the food look so much bigger that I feel satisfied with far less meat. It wasn't until Dr. Westman stated that one of the major reasons why the keto diet works is that most people eat less calories because they are satiated with the fat and protein that I realized that the total number of calories that I was eating each day had skyrocketed to over well over 600 or 700 calories a day more than I had previously been eating while consuming far more yogurt and some grains and too many fiber-rich and thyroid-destroying vegetables. I was able to put on weight on the carnivore diet while jogging and walking and lifting weight and burning about 800 calories a day.

Veggies made me sick - poisoned by oxalates. ALL above gone - also I am de ageing - best for me is FATTY lamb ribs, FATTY steak, butter, smoked salmon, eggs and raw egg yolk and raw beef. I did in the beginning eat a lot of liver. Way of eating change over the years. Realised dairy does not help with mood swings makes it 100 times worse.

Have MS and took a bad fall in February at the conclusion of the course but kept on :) I stalled a bit and attribute to MS complications but decided to try Carnivore (stricter Keto) on June 1st. I was eating meals from a "healthy meal program for older adults and others who want it need assist with meal prep". I was throwing out the potatoes, rice, carrots and only eating green beans and asparagus in a meal. After severe gastrointestinal issue and (incontinence of stool which could be the MS). I was horrified and decided to trial a stricter diet and try cooking myself after 4 years. Exhausted at first and full time with secondary progressive MS but notice a couple of days ago a teeny bit easier. Weight down and though not my primary goal to start all this was overweight but no amount of salads and healthy foods did a thing until carb restriction. Hoping the benefit continues and with more carb restriction will see. You gave me hope by your professional and kind presentation to everyone with whom you interact. Thank you! I read this paper a few months ago and was interested but also tickled. I was in college in the late 60s, and the school had a heavy social/behavioral science emphasis. Very frequently there were surveys about our knowledge/experience with counterculture -- dress styles, music, hair, drugs, whatever. I thought it amusing that they found it necessary to "study" us in that way. After all, there we were, living our lives pretty much in plain sight, but I guess we seemed alien somehow. I had a hint of that same perspective when I read this paper. Carnivores are everywhere -- maybe even in the house next door. But the researchers seemed to treat them as an exotic species. I am glad that folks thought carnivore was important enough to look at, but still amused, and also a little saddened that it is apparently not natural to just talk to neighbors.

They didn’t even control the data to actual carnivores, many of them ate plants according to the paper, you could only call it meat-heavy diet which I’d predict in the case of adding fruit wouldn’t have the same positive profile.

The Inuit ate meat(fish) raw(frozen) regularly, they just chewed on sticks of fish basically. Vitamin C is known to be not particularly heat-resistent. So the question is if we still get enough Vitamin C from meat if we eat it well done mostly. I guess carnivores also eat butter and some "raw" yolks when they make fried eggs and might have medium steaks, so the meat/yolk isn't losing most of its water soluble vitamins. Also from what I've read in the past it seems like our need for Vitamin C is not very high, it's just that the sailors of old that got scurvy basically got no Vitamin C at all, as they mostly consumed canned foods and nothing fresh on their months long trips.

Don't forget that it's the glucose that competes with vitamin C for intestinal membrane transport proteins. Absorption of the small amounts of C in meat will be swamped by sugar and starch.

Main problem with carnivore diet- people who yell at me ! So I’m trying to keep quiet about it, a year ago I tried to talk to my doctor- he told me I was going to die, so I don’t need that….then the ‘spiritual’ people look like I’ve just killed Fido!….. what about oxalates, lectins, phytoestrogens…..? I’m dumping oxalates- it’s rough….and I love all foods , I enjoy a piece of fruit every few days, and I use a bit of onion or garlic on my meat….but I feel alienated from most people…..but all medical has told me “at my age….etc.,” so I’m on my own ! I don’t want my eyes cut, and I’ve yet to find evidence that carnivore mammals get cataracts, also one vet advised. ‘If your dog is developing cataracts eliminate his carbs to slow that process….”,……so maybe I should just go to a vet for bloodwork .?? Thanks, I get, grass finished beef ( not grain fed ever ), water buffalo yoghurt, lots of water - more than 4 litres/day, Pasture eggs, various cheeses….. yes I fall off, for chocolate, fructose and suffer with hives/rashes overnight when I do…..

I'm not carnivore but totally see why the benefits are HUGE. I have been eating low carb, two meals a day and fasting 18 or 19 hours a day for four years and it suits me perfectly. In regards carnivore it's amusing to hear the "educated" talk negatively about a way of eating that sufficed for thousands of years.

I do eat the occasional hot dog (the sausage). It's organic and comes from pasture raised pigs. Sure, they'll eat some grains and human bred veggies, but I'm sure it's still better than any whole grain bread or tropical fruit. Even if they added 1% sugars and some other natural stuff to it.

Where is the research study on diabetes done years ago by Duke and Harvard scientific community you mentioned published in a pediatric journal available? Many nutritionist and even some endocrinologist still push a low fat, unhealthy carbohydrate and seed oil diets for type one and type two diabetics. Seems like they want their patience to continue needing them and medications. More money in their and big Pharma pockets. 😢

The two scientists talking in the video assume that they are supposedly in good health and not that they are patients with clinically relevant symptoms, diagnoses such as prediabetism, diabetes II, metabolic syndrome, thyroid problems, etc., while the majority of those who prefer the carnivore diet or low-carb diet do so for health reasons.
