In this tutorial, we'll take a look at the new Properties panel in the latest After Effects Beta. It's a panel similar to what Photoshop and Illustrator users are familiar with, and will give you quick access to common layer and shape properties without having to twirl down a ton of menus on your timeline.

I wont lie its nice but compared to other requested features its nothing. I am still hoping someday we will have layer grouping so I dont have to either group everyhing under a shape and then twirel down or pre-compose every time just to save some space when having +50 layers. Thank you for this video, btw I wish they would allow us to change color as in Illustrator were you select an object and move HSB sliders.

My upcoming tool will actually kinda let you do this. People have been demanding layer grouping for over a decade, so yeah I feel ya. I hate precomposing and flattening things. I think the AE team was saying they would basically need to re-write a ton of the core code as AE was born with this layer/precomposing structure. One day!

Completely agree with you, another feature that I would like to have is slider controls for keyframes, there's no way to do that these days, only with a lot of coding expressions, and the result is not that good.

@@LuiNogueira What do you mean by slider controls for keyframes? Like using a slider to move keyframes down the timeline?

  • @LuiNogueira

@@CreativeDojo No, control keyframes values through slider. Let's suppose that we have two keyframes, one in 0sec and another in 1sec, I would like to have one slider for each keyframe controlling their values, that way I could make some automations like having automatic values based on another layer or comp but maintaining their animations.

Nice to see they have finally caught up to programs from 20 years ago. Now, can they fix the constant out of memory and other rendering problems cause by their garbage render engine the added in 2015?

Before Cavalry becomes actual competition for After Effects (and don't get me wrong, I love to finally see some competition on the horizon) it'll be a few years at least. Remember After Effects has thousands of industry standard plugins.
