New Problems-New Year | DIY Sprinter Van Intercooler Hose Repair-2019+ | Southbound Ep. 15

🎉 Welcome to our unforgettable New Year's Eve adventure! Join us as we hit the road in our Sprinter van and face an unexpected challenge on I-40 in Arizona. 🚐💨 Our intercooler turbo hose decided to give up the ghost, leaving us with new priorities in the middle of the desert.

Auto parts stores are closed for the holiday, and we're determined to get back on the road and continue our journey on the Pan-American to Argentina!
🌵 With no parts options in sight, we camp near an abandoned gas station turned into a graffiti exhibition for the night. The desert landscape provides a breathtaking backdrop as we reflect on the past year and share our hopes for the one ahead.
🌟 Will our blown hose hold up until Flagstaff? How will we ring in the New Year stranded in the Arizona desert? Join us on this unexpected journey filled with challenges, laughter, and the spirit of adventure.

    I’m writing this comment sitting in Eagle Pass TX on my way to Phoenix AZ. Yesterday riding down the highway I lost power on my VS30 and limped to Eagle Pass. I did some checking and couldn’t determine what was wrong. I found your video and went this morning to look. I found a blown hose! New hose will be here at 11am! I was about to pay 700 bucks to tow it to San Antonio. Big help! Your Axle video in Alaska was also a big help! Love how calm you are while this mess is happening. You saved me so much time and money!

    SO good!! Thank you Kathy & Peter! And for all you 2019+ Sprinter 2500 4x4 owners out there, as an FYI: I got an estimate for this work from my local "reasonably priced" shop (usually a fraction of dealership prices), and it was still $617.11 for parts and labor!! Zoikes!! I'll be changing mine out, on my own, in a few days - feeling very informed and empowered thanks to The Great Family Holcombe!!

    Go figure…on New Years Eve I was stranded 80 miles east of Boise due to an error code…I ended up getting towed to the Boise MB dealer at a cost of almost 900.00. Finally on Tuesday the 2nd the dealer troubleshot the issue to a faulty control module. They had a new one delivered and installed by Thursday afternoon. Good video I appreciate people who have the ability to fix and repair under unusual circumstances

    Nice video and a great attitude; I have a 2014 2.1, 161000 miles, all original, had never replaced any part yet, just the three idle pulleys on the front, the camshaft, and crankshaft sensors as a precaution; I do extensible maintenance. Looking at your video I may replace those two hoses, in March and I plan to go to Baja.

But I also ordered a left and right spare from AutoHouseAZ.com That was a Rein Automotive Intercooler Hose/Line; Left P/N: RA-9065282582 and a Rein Automotive Intercooler Hose/Line; Right P/N: RA-9065282682. Make sure these fit your van before ordering. There is a good parts locator function on the AutoHouseAZ site. Thanks so much!

    This video will address this much better than me making a list here. But in addition to the video highlights, for our Pan-American trip I'm carrying: spare alternator, both turbo hoses, alternator belt, bet tensioner, pulley, suspension hardhead, Relays, plumbing PEX pipefittings and clamps, charge controllers and more that don't come to to mind currently. It's been a big day of 4x4in in Baja. I try to carry the things that have a good probability of breaking and I can fix myself in the field. But like our axle this summer (kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zoqmu86IdrSnpc4.html) I had to source an axle and then instal it myself. It's not practical to carry around an axle. With a few exceptions most parts or service aren't too far away. I hope that helps!

    New subscriber here because you have a great attitude and great videos. I plan to add this part to my onboard spares. 3 Questions: 1. Did you have to reset the DTC code or did it auto-reset? 2. Are there are just the two turbo intercooler hoses (Left & Right)? 3. Do you have a published list of all your onboard spares?

  • @Famagogo

    @Famagogo

    Welcome aboard! Thanks for that! Answers below: 1) It reset once I installed the new hose and the pressures returned to normal. 2) Yes, just the two 3) I don't currently but I should. I just recently added a lot of the parts covered in the video for the Pan-American trip. I need to inventory and list them at some point. This is a great idea.

    Maybe the turbo hose gets compromised from all that power steering fluid leaking on it!

  • @Famagogo

    @Famagogo

    5 ай бұрын

    Maybe, I try not to spill stuff. The gunk on the hose is from the little bit of oil that goes through the turbo. Once it gets a leak it blows that out and makes a bit of a mess.

  • @Kendubious

    I thought it was the slow leak from my power steering hose that sits above it? My turbo hose still has the brown oil on it so, your saying it is probably coming from the turbo? I was wondering why it still had oil on it after I tighted the power steering hose clamp.@@Famagogo

    How many miles are on that van though? I thought Peter had a lot of miles ( like 300,000+ ), but maybe that's on more than one van. My 2001 Tacoma has been reliable, but I just had to replace the radiator - after 23 years and 267,000 miles. Shit breaks eventually.

    I wish being an ambassador made my van immune to breakdowns. That would be an amazing deal. On this channel I want to share my real world experiences as a traveler. And if you travel as much as I do, things will eventually break. It's no fault of Mercedes, they make a great product but all vehicles have parts that will eventually wear out. I am grateful that Mercedes has a global parts network. So I can source parts from most places around the globe.
