NEW Porsche 992GTS and five reasons you might take it over the 992GT3
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Car experts perpetually want to declare which is the best real world Porsche 911. They say the current base Carrera could be more aggressive, the GT3 needs to be less hard and they ask why a Turbo S costs more than the national debt.
And while Porsche sticks to their two year product cycle it seems they listen because they’ve just given us a 911 which both adds and subtracts.
this new 992 GTS has added aggression but has anything been taken away?
And can it be better in any way than the car awarded the title of best drivers car 2022, the new GT3 ?
Well my plan is to compare these two and to offer up 5 reasons why you may just want to take this GTS rather than that GT3.

I have both cars a Carrera 4S and a GT3. They are completely different characters. A GTS is for traveling, from a to b, a GT3 is for driving out of your garage, have fun for two hours and drive right back into it. But those two hours are topped by absolutely nothing. A. GT 3 is a complete class by itsself.

Making any 911 a "4" moves it from "sports car" to "fast commuter" or if you prefer, wanna be rally car. A Carrera S also is almost, but not quite a GTS.

I had until recently a 991.2 GTS with PDK and just upgraded to a 991.2 GT3 Touring. The GTS is fantastic, probably faster in a straight line, and comfortable. However, it left me wanting more. The GT3 gives that to me. It’s harder to drive and is a lot less practical and comfortable (bucket seats), but you can’t beat it for raw emotion, if that trade-off is worth it to you. I find the ride to be marginally stiffer and of course it sits lower. The steering is more precise and gives me much more confidence in the corners. Completely different cars and can’t go wrong either way. Btw love your videos. You’re very articulate and knowledgeable. And the rock music is cool.

Agreed, except I think the road noise, suspension, and rpm range of torque usability as a daily driver in the gt3 is not optimal for most people. It is simply too extreme. As far as the comfort factor, ordered my 992 Touring with the 18 way seats and they are great. I love all the road noise, the suspension and rpm range, especially with the third pedal. If you are into that, the gt3 is awesome! Enjoy your car.
Thank you for the Video comparing both vehicles. I ordered a GTS which will be delivered mid October. Total wait time for it would have been about 1 year. Doing that put me further up on the list with my dealership for a GT3 which is estimated at 3 years away for 992.2 generation car.

The 911 is a car that gets under your skin in a way that if ever you own one and then sell it you just know you will want another. There really is one for everyone. The Turbo S just does everything, GT3 is an aural delight. The base Carrera is pure 911 and wonderful. The GTS is the absolute consummate all-rounder. But If I had to choose a body style to turn heads it would be the 992 GTS Targa 4. It might be the heaviest, but it will get you from A to B in style. That folding roof is really handy when you want to pack things in when touring too, it gives great access! If you are fit enough to get in and out, plus you can afford one it will be a car you will not regret buying! The perfect sports car. Graet video as always Roger!

Both are beyond my reach but I spent some time in the configurator and found the GTS to be better looking in all black with the aeropackage. Also a simple stage 1 tune will make it faster in a straight line than a GT3. Of course when specking the GTS as I wish it costs close to a Turbo.

Great review, Roger. You mention all the points that made my decision on the GTS. I could be wrong but I read somewhere that the torque numbers on the GTS are even higher than the GT3 and 0-60 is only .1 second slower...2.7 GT3 vs 2.8 GTS. Fast enough for me. Having a new 4 GTS, I can say that what makes it a better daily drive is the torque, more relaxed steering, and the helper springs which give excellent body control at high speeds. Downsides include numerous rattles and buzzes from the interior that can’t really be pinpointed and fixed.
@RogerBaileyOnCars

Well put together and narrated Roger, well done! For me it comes down to 2 things. Do you really need 4 seats? And do you want a 911 engine turbo engine or a Race Breed NA engine? Great review. So big question is 2 or 4wd? Also do you think GTS is better for a daily driver that gets 4 or 5 track days a year?
@RogerBaileyOnCars

Hi Michael, Personally I'd always take 2wd. The GTS a near perfect daily driver and is also very capable on track.
Do you recommend going for the rear wheel steering and 10 mm lowered suspension? Does the latter greatly impact the ride compliancy?
@RogerBaileyOnCars
Жыл бұрын
Hi Deepak, 10mm lowered suspension is hard to detect in real life so I'd have little worry there, the rear wheel steer is excellent and worth having in my opinion - Roger
In tbdd ex real world the higher torque available sooner makes a huge difference in favor of the gts. Sometimes I think the gt3 could be turbocharged with shorter gear ratio then it will burn anything
I have a GTS coupe coming in in late October. Ordered with Normal PASM. Don't need an overly stiff ride in normal mode. Did I do the right thing?
@RogerBaileyOnCars
9 ай бұрын
Hi Gordon, did you mean PASM vs PDCC? you have to buy rear steering to get PDCC so it gets expensive and in the real world only improves things by a small amount, real wheel steer is worth going for in my opinion, that said there isn't really a wrong set up here just slight variations of an excellent theme- Roger
I'm new to the Porsche family; I just picked up a '23 Cayenne GTS last November. It's exceptional. But I really want a new 911 before they go electric/hybrid, so I put a deposit to be on the waitlist for the next generation 992.2 GTS. It will give me a few years to live with the Cayenne before I trade it in. Likely going with the Coupe, RWD, PDK, Black Jet Metallic.
@RogerBaileyOnCars

gts has a newer 8 speed pdk and is more torquey wouldnt be surprised if its a bit faster too. I think most people that want a gt3 actually want a gts and dont know it

I think this customer history, allocation thing is unique to British dealerships,as a 992 GT3 fanboy I scour the internet for reviews and it doesn’t seem to be the case overseas🤔
Would had been funny to see the reaction of your grandson in the GTS (boring, let's go back to the GT3 😉). Interesting video, but to me both cars doesn't really compare to eachother, because the purpose for both is different. The one is basically a race car (even the 992 touring as many complain) that you buy for weekend fun, while the other is more aimed to be a fast daily driver. I don't think anyone would take the GTS for track driving, if he had the chance to get a GT3 instead. So when you look at it from the purpose perspective, the comparison between GTS and Turbo/Turbo S might be better, since they also are meant to be daily drivers.

The 718 GTS 4.0 seems the most desireable as far as a high performance everyday useable Porsches go. What it has ahead of the 992 GTS is the NA engine, which I don't need to explain, and the more compact dimensions, which makes it much more suited for regular (back) roads.

Manual vs PDK I don’t believe there’s a wrong choice
@LifeOfToyz
Жыл бұрын
I'm facing this choice. I've driven stick my entire life and I love the engagement, but the PDK is so precise. And I think I'm done using my left leg so much in a daily. I'm ready to relax while I'm driving "spirited".
I just had the opportunity to drive these 2 back to back and without having the time to watch this video yet I can say with absolute certainty that they are nothing alike and it’s almost amazing that they start off from the same basic platform. The GT3 while being noticeably less torque sounds night and day better, the gearbox of the GT3 was also far superior to the much more vague 7-spd in the GTS but the biggest difference is undoubtedly in the steering response and precision of the GT3 as well as the suspension seems so much more dialed in without a huge detriment to the ride. It felt like the GTS rode higher and was actually more crashy over bumps which was very surprising to me because it didn’t feel a lot more dailyable or livable but moral of the story is anyone that says the GTS is a slightly less GT3 is a complete idiot (and I’ve read quite a few reviews/watched videos saying such things). The GTS is a glorified Carrera S which is what I drive, GT3 is a totally different car, it literally blew me away and I now understand why people pay ridiculous premiums for them.

The GT3 is the it car of today. But the GTS will be the it car of the future. I predict that there is going to be a big change in the car world. We are going to go from the highest possible performance, highest possible speed, and any/all features that make a car more racecar like... to a market that wants better interior design, more comfortable ride, better fuel economy, etc which is the GTS.
Is it worth upgrading from a rwd 991.2 gts with rws to the 992 s or 992gts?

its worth taking a test drive of the 992's, they are quite different in feel to the 991.2
What about the Cayman GTS? It is lighter and comes with the 4 litre NA engine. So you can use more of the performance more of the time and has some of the sound of a GT3/4. If you were to use the extra performance of the GTS over the standard S you would lose your licence anywhere except the autobahn.
