This is the Porsche 911 Sport Classic, and it just might be the best 911 of all time!
You see, this is no ordinary 911. It’s limited to 1,250 models, and it includes a whole host of classic features from different 911 series and included them in this car for the modern age.
So, what have they done? Starting with the exterior, you’ll find a big stripe up the bonnet to help it stand out from any other 911. It also comes with a double bubble roof, a unique alloy design and some big decals down the side. At the rear, you’ll find some gold Porsche badging, and our personal favourite feature - a ducktail spoiler! That’s right, this is the only new 911 on sale to come with a ducktail!
On the inside, the design is largely based on 911 interiors from yesteryear, whether it be the pattern on the seats or the green lights you’ll find in the dials. Although it looks great, it’s worth noting you can get the same features when speccing up your own new 911, so unfortunately it’s not all that exclusive.
And finally, let’s look at the performance! At the rear, you’ll find the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine as found in the current 911 Turbo S. However, the output has been tuned down to 550hp and 600Nm. This is because the 911 Sport Classic is only available as a manual, and only available with rear-wheel drive!
So it all sounds pretty impressive, right? Here’s the thing, though… It’ll set you back at least £214,400!! So is it worth it? There’s only one way to find out… Join Mat for this all-new in-depth review!

Actually, it is like a normal 6 speed manual. But you can get into the long 7th gear (almost like the 8th gear of the PDK) from 6th to save fuel and to reduce engine noise. Sport Chrono Package is for free with the manual option and I would always go for Sport Chrono in a 911. But I have a problem: The PDK is also absolutely great. And it's faster. A normal Carrera (non S) would be fine for me with manual, but Porsche don't offers that option. Okay - I'm still too poor even for the entry level 911, so that's just fine. Maybe there is once more a 911 T coming up.

That's what they said about the 911 R, then out came the Carrera T and GT3 Touring. Usually special edition Porsche's are followed up with a mass produced equivalent. I wouldn't be surprised if they produce a 911 Turbo RWD or something afterwards which would tank the value.

@@lachie5687 You're forgetting there already was a sports classic model from 2010 that was followed by plenty cool Porsches, yet that model is a modern classic of its own. The 911R has more than doubled its value so far so I don't really see where you're coming from. Certainly the Carrera T and GT3 Touring did not tank the value of the 911R, neither did they tank the value of the 2010 Sports Classic with one being sold for $654k, over double its original MSRP. The 911R is its own special car and so is the Sports Classic, the values of which aren't dented by more accessible alternatives such as the Carrera T or GT3 Touring.

Seriously, I didn't really pay any mind until he complained about 'having to' downshift to overtake. Then I thought, wait wtf is this actually a car guy? OMG you have to manually downshift your Porsche? what a burden! Let me do that for you. 😀
Matt, once all the manuals are out of production, we will all be praising them. That Porsche probably has one of the best manual boxes ever created, I am sure it is fast and precise. Why not celebrate the fact that it may be one of the last manuals in a Porsche, instead of dissing it the whole time? Once we get self driving, electric, speed limited, soulless cars.... you will remember driving this Porsche very well.
@asdfghjk_

Well said. Dissing manual gearboxes while conveniently ignoring the fact that this car is a limited edition collectors item, not an everyday driver and even comparing the ride to that of an estate car. If it only came in auto or if you had the choice of transmissions then I'm sure Matt would rant about how collectors cars should only be manual. And acting shocked when a limited edition collectors car that will drastically appreciate in value is more expensive than the mass produced Turbo S, how very controversial. Then explaining the unheard of draw backs of city driving with a manual gearbox and feeling the need to explain that you have to down shift.. to overtake.. when in 7th gear. Motoring journalism at its finest..

I just took my first driving lesson and I *chose* a manual car over automatic. I enjoyed myself, it was so cool to drive a car for the first time and I had a good time managing my clutch and “finding the biting point”. When I left my driving school though, my left leg was killing me. Maybe I need to experience driving faster and on an open road, but after that, I do not understand why a lot of people worship this three-pedal setup like god. I’m sure it’s super fun, but in my circles, it’s getting so cult-like, it’s almost as if people choose to ignore the “other option” completely.
Wow Matt, you criticized manual way way too much. This is a car for casual old style driving, and not mindless daily commute or high performance track driving. This car is for weekend fun drive with last manual Porsche in old styling. Why would you care about it’s clutch if this is exactly what you want to experience with this?

The fact that Matt prefers autos over manuals on sports cars blows my mind every time.

I definitely agree with him that manual is annoying in town, especially with a heavy clutch + a lot of stop/start traffic. However, this is not a car meant to drive around town. In the end he mentions all the 911 models to get instead, but if he wants an automatic so bad why not get one of those. Why would he want a PDK option in a 911 model like this, that is meant to be a homage to older 911s, which had manual gearboxes? Doesn't make sense to me.
glad Porsche hasn't gone GUTLESS... major props for still making a manual!!!

@@grahamelias9306 How does 7th gear being locked out make any sense? If you ever drive it on a motorway you'd get up to cruising speed in 3rd and then you'd want to stick it in 7th. Actually met a Porsche employee with a Sports Classic like a little over a month ago at a parking lot and had a chat with him about the car. He said it was a pre-production prototype, which sadly has to be destroyed after testing. All for keeping the limited production numbers truthful. It was basically looking the same from the outside as this one, but had a light brown, stunning interior. This happened in Heimsheim, near Weissach (Porsche‘s Development Center)
I absolutely love the look of the Sport Classic, especially the ducktail spoiler. I also like the look of the Targa Heritage edition and it’s classic Targa body style, but if I was buying one myself (and could actually afford it), I think I’d go for a Carrera S with a few options.

Makes you admire the 3.4 second 0-60 and gigantic torque of the CTS-Blackwing. Cadillac uses two massive clutch plates for its manual. Aston and Porsche just dial back the torque.
The reason you couldnt shift into 7th from 5th is because it was locked. It unlocks when youre in 6th gear. That way you cant accidentally go from 4th to 7th. Actually really clever and makes a 7 speed much much better for sporty driving. Edit: he figured it out later lol. Too quick with the comment
I just watched 20 minutes of Mat flexing his Turbo S

Can't be the only one noticing him inserting "his turbo S" whenever possible.
Just a,personal opinion. This is the most perfect Porsche 911 ever and the best modern Porsche overall. Beautiful, elegant and sporty all in one, interior, exterior and engine. Love it.
Great info Matt!
I though this was the best 911 every released in the past 10 years, until I saw the price!

Doesn't matter what the price is, as this 911 is unobtanium for 99.9% of people with the money to buy it anyway. Just another limited Porsche where you'll need to have a multi year purchase history with your local dealer just be considered to be added to 'the list'

I would get it for the ducktail alone, guess u cant have adaptive cruise with a manual cause that may require downshifts or upshifts which the software cant do

My manual golf 8 has adaptive cruise control with automatic steering. They could do it if they wanted to.
"fuchs," yeah..hahahaha....always enjoy your vids!
Great car. Driving a sportscar with a manual is pure fun. And that blue color looks awesome.
Eh for me manual gearboxes are just so much more fun to drive and that’s what it’s all about really
that car is sooo beautiful, but for the first time I am not really enjoying this review by matt.. he was kinda annoyed all the time and kept on hating on the manual.

That badge on the rear deck lid is amazing, alot of the 356's and the first air cooled cars had these, definitely cool and not tacky LOL
Your daily driver👌🔥🙌 But the brakes of the sport classic are mental 🤞👏
7 speed manual ? Finally we are getting close to the 12 speed transmission they have in all movie cars when they race. Edit : the burble on this Porsche sounds like the little popping toy my kids used to have to push around. It was a ball shape on a stick with little balls inside .

Tuning shops have no problem finding a way to make the gearboxes (auto/manual) stronger to support the extra power, but porsche couldn't?

That ducktail is soooo gorgeous!! It’s unreal. 🤤
Lovey machine! I’d get the turbo s & put on the Fuchs wheels & decals aftermarket!
The whole point of a manual box is for the "driver" to "drive" the car otherwise buy an auto. The point of a performance car is not how fast it sprints to 60mph (as that's not what a driver spends most of their time doing) but how well it performs on an open road or better still a track. Mat and his followers spend too much time placing emphasis on standing sprints.......that really isn't driving!
Imagine it with the gt3 engine🥹🔥

I agree with Mat that they should've also given you the option of getting the SC with a PDK. A ducktailed Turbo without vents. People who want manual on a special 911 would probably rather go for the GT3/GT3 Touring.
Spec a GTS the same + a tune and save $100K
Totally agree with that verdict
Semi. Pro. Lol. I enjoyed this immensely, even though I could never afford it. I would agree with your verdict. Personally, I just get a carrera, I have a cayman gts and all the gts trinkets make it less usable. Especially the lower ride height. Basic is better in a Porsche. Thanks for continuing to entertain at such a high level.
