    So I own both a 986 Boxster S (1st gen) & a 718 4.0 GTS (latest gen) & can unequivocally say they are both a blast to drive. So if you can't quite afford a 718 GTS, don't fret, get yourself whatever Boxster you can, I guarantee you will love it!

    Great video 🤓!!! Last year in February 2023, I acquired my new 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 which has the 4L NA flat six cylinder engine (same unit as a GT4) and a PDK gearbox. Power output (394 bhp) and torque (317 lb-ft) are a nice match to this car's sensible curb weight (~3200 lbs). The color is Gentian Blue metallic with a black/chalk all-leather interior and silver wheel rims. It's definitely an entertaining driver's car! So far, I've only done 452 miles but hopefully a lot more this coming Summer! The PDK is also a lot of fun (it's definitely quick) 🤓 All the best and thanks again from Colorado! Sorry, you need to do the research to get get your facts right. The 911 GT3 is a TOTALLY different engine to the GTS 4.0, but it is in the GT4/Spyder RS. The engine in the GTS 4.0 is identical to the discontinued GT4/Spyder that had S/W enabled +20bhp. The engine was derived from a Porsche 911 3.0, with turbos removed and bored out to 4.0. I have a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 so agree its Porsche Goldilocks car. 95% of the parts, including the important ones, even the seats, are directly from a 911 991. The body shape being the main difference, along with a naturally aspirated 4.0 engine that no regular 911 has positioned where god would put one - in the middle. The 718 GTS 4.0 Cayman/Boxster is the best handling, best rotation, best sports car for road driving Porsche make, other than the new unobtainable, unaffordable, unavailable, limited 911ST. The Boxster finally got the engine and gearbox it deserved to make it better than most 911's - unless you need to scratch the 911 itch, rear seats or want a GT car. The 718 is 90% a 911 under the skin anyway but now with a better engine at 2/3 the price of a 911. I've had 5 911's. A GT3 it ain't but that's not a car for me for threading down UK B roads for fun AND you can't put the roof down. Snap one up while you as the next generation is god forbid all electric - gulp!

    The stroke and the bore of the GTS 4.0 engine are identical to the stroke and bore of a GT3. I guarantee you, it is the same crank, same block, same cylinders, but that is where the similarity stops, the cylinder head, pistons, and all,other appendages are different

    @@jandejong8209 The video states the engine in a 718 GTS is the one from a 911 GT3 but with reduced RPM…which is incorrect. It is a different engine. He got confused between the Spyder and GTS where the bhp was reduced in the latter with S/W and which are the same engine. The fact that the GTS 4.0 motor might share some parts with the motorsport built GT3 is irrelevant as they are different engines, different numbers, different performance and physical size. It’s like saying that just because 90% of the parts in a 718 are exactly the same as those in a 911, including same part numbers, it is therefore a 911 in a different guise. Aside from the fact the engine is in a different position, rear suspension is different etc.

    Correct, the 4.0 GT3 engine was derived from the 9a1 series, as is the 3.8 Turbo 911 and the GT2. The 4.0 that was derived from the 3.0 9a2 engine series with plasma arc bore liners is the engine in this GTS Boxster & GTS Cayman.

    Enjoyed watching this. Been a long time porsche addict going through 997, and 991s and my first p car a 987. boxster. I never found that driving delight in the 911s that the 987 opened my eyes too. All the 911 satisfied was ego. I’m now in. Cayman GTS 4.0 and totally echo the points you made. Just please please do a little more research as others have said re the origin of the engine. Keep them coming as just subscribed 👍

    This Boxter GTS 4.0 spec looks awesome! How did you convenience Porsche to add the windshield camera which reads the speed signals and enables PDLS+ with variable high beam 🤯? They dropped this option in the second half of 2022 for all 718 models 😢.

    The Boxster was originally designed to be a convertible so drives brilliantly and looks fantastic. Better than a 911 which was originally designed to be a coupe with that iconic shape, sadly lost with its bulbous rear as a convertible.

    Gt4 engine not the gt3. Ditch the particular filters with set of over axle pipes and plug or lock open the vacumn valves. Car completely changes to what it should sound like ! I got the sypder, chalk. Congratulations on the gts 4.0.

    I think the GT4 has the same engine as the GT3 too. Planning on some axle pipes just a matter of which ones. Love the look of the Spyder! Thanks!

    @@LivingLikeGrayThe GTS/GT4 motor is actually a modified 911 motor without a turbo. Although It’s not a Motorsport engine, it’s an excellent engine. The engine within the GT4 RS/Spyder RS is actually a slightly detuned version of the engine found in the 911 GT3.

  • @brandonalley9012

    @brandonalley9012

    Exactly, GTS/GT4 motor is modified from the regular Porsche 911 Carrera. Not from the GT3. Difference between GTS/GT4 motor and 911 Carrera is that it doesn’t have the turbo and they bump up the displacement to 4.0 liters.

    I am confused about the story behind the key location. I know Porsche almost went bankrupt in the early nineties. And the Boxster saved the brand back then. The switch of the key location however, was during the production years of the 356 somewhere late fifties. Was Porsche in that period also almost bankrupt?

  • @LivingLikeGray

    Yes, they faced bankruptcy multiple times throughout its history. A lot of cars are know as the “car that saved Porsche” due to that
