Having experienced a similar situation years ago, I can tell you all else being equal, the super charged engine will pull hard for the first few hundred feet, then will get passed by the turbo. The supercharger will probably work better on a drag strip, where you are accelerating for a limited distance from a standing stop. Where the turbocharger will probably work better nearly everywhere else.

@@LivingLikeGray The engines are surprisingly solid. Very decent torque. Top end is a bit limited but still fun. Unfortunately for the cobalt ss the trans was practically glass but I doubt you're using the stock transmission in your setup. Personally I've been looking at the gm 3800. It's a supercharged V6 that can hold about 375 on a stock block and you can pick up a Buick regal gs for like 2 grand

I wouldn’t really say it was either. The big thing was that the videos that DF made stop after you put the engine in because then it gets pretty specific depending on your build. Then you go to the forum. The Forum has a bunch of info on it so it was just finding what we needed on there. Also, because we changed the transmission this caused some issues for us that we didn’t even think about but luckily they were easily fixed with the Forum. If you are planning on building one, make an account on the forum and check it out before you start building

I took mine out but don’t do that. My bumper is now having issues without that piece. Honestly you can take a sharpie or something and just color it. The other option is to drill the piece that came out of the bumper for the most seamless look. You could also 3D print a piece to put there.

I just don’t get the “certain cars are made for certain ages” type of concept. I’m SURE Subaru didn’t design this car for 16 year olds or college guys. There’s no such thing. I’m 42 and after owning a Volvo S90 for 5 years, I just got a new WRX and in my reality, that means actually moving forward, not backwards. It all depends on what you want at that point of your life, and not how old you are.

I enjoyed this review. In regard to being a good first car for a 16 year old, in this country at least (Australia) a 16 year old is not allowed to drive, and definetly not a WRX, due to P plate (provisional licence) restrictions. And there may be a good reason for that. My own driving, on country roads, commenced at 10 years of age, so I cant really moralize about that law. Secondly, technically speaking you may have been correct about the narrow (maximum)useable power band 0f 1200rpm. Torque is an important element of power, and some would say the Most important. Like a lot of turbo cars the WRX has a big fat flat torque curve from 2500 rpm to 5000 rpm. It is only from that point that horse power is greater than torque. It is torque that responds best to tuning, and torque that is responsible for so much driving pleasure. I rest my case. I am probably old enough to be your Grand Father, so I hope you can cut me some slack in regard to these comments. Thanks again for the review. I hope to have a WRX sooner rather than later.
