Welcome new players I got another tip for you. Hero Points, across the world there are hero point challenges that are pretty easy to solo (core Tyria anyway) that awards hero points to unlock skills and traits for your class. Some of these won't involve a fight but will place an item in your inventory to right click on to get the point.

My friends insisted hard in me (newbie) using the lvl 80 boost to be able to play with them on their lvl, accessing content limited to or better for lvl 80. I put a lot of resistance because i already felt quite lost being rushed in general, i thought i'd be even more lost. And i was. Eventually they stopped playing to rotate thru other games. Playing at my own pace was the best thing to happen, I now enjoy the game so much more. I think I'm still missing knowledge tho and i really want to go back to lvl up organically. Now that the new player experience has been revamped and the leveling up is faster, i think there couldn't be a better time to go back to it :)

I found leveling up is a real chore when you're restricted having no traits and barely any utilities, and no weapon swap. I'd say you don't really learn anything from grinding up to 80. At least not if you've played other MMOs, or lots of other games in general. Everything is super easy, things are very slow, there's hardly any mechanics that are being taught. You learn more from watching a 5 min class guide than you do from 1-80.

And with the slightest number change they go "Omg anet hates ele this class is useless now" meanwhile I still carry dungeons and fractals and usually have the highest dps on any worldboss... And I do not eman to sound like "Just l2p, srcub!" obviously you can not like a class or find it unintuitive - I do not understand ranger - but to then think that because you don't get good results with it it must be unplayable is pretty silly.

Boosting your character to level 80 is not only confusing if you don't know the class already, but it can also make you feel more distant to the character and their class in a way. At least that's what happened to me. The two characters I boosted up like that (revenant and ranger) are the two classes I like playing the least, and I can't play them very well either. I enjoy every other class immensely, but every other class I levelled up organically and thus learned the skills and traits bit by bit.

  • @Kerbezena

    @Kerbezena

    Жыл бұрын

If you level Revenant organically, you might recall where you were and what you were doing when you unlocked and explored every new legend (Rev's class mechanic; you always have two legends selected and switch between them; each legend has their associated trait line and complete set of slot skills (1 heal, 3 utility and 1 elite)). Instead you can "remember" standing in Camp Resolve in the Silverwastes and clicking CONFIRM. Not quite the same level of association. Let's face it: Level-80-boost is nothing more than a marketing ploy from NCsoft and an example of fundamentally flawed game design.

I have this same experience every time. To further support your point, I had an account where I mained a Revenant years before I picked the game up again and I lost the password. Since then I had mained an ele and a guardian (built from the ground up, not boosted), but I 80boosted many other toons. Surprisingly the only toons I enjoyed playing were the ele and the guardian, because i felt no attachment to the boosted ones. However, I decided to recreate my old Revenant main and 80boosted one. I've put more hours into my Rev than my other mains, because it was like I reconnected with an old friend. Very odd how that works

I'm not sure if this really counts as a rookie mistake, but when I first started back in I think it either 2015 or 2016, I was trying to find the closest profession that fulfilled a specific class fantasy from another MMO I enjoyed and tried to play that profession in similar a way. That of course didn't work out because of how different the games are fundamentally and I didn't have a good time. I came back to the game earlier this spring because I wanted some older games on my newly build computer and decided to give GW2 another shot. My old character still existed on my account, but I decided to make a new one with a different profession that I figured seemed cool for a more authentic fresh start and I've since learned to love this game in between others.

But yes I am so glad to keep playing this game for over 10 years and seeing the community still active.

I thought I never did something stupid until I remembered this: When I first started the game, I was not interested in crafting, so I didn't want to keep materials in my inventory. At first, I was using the button to put every material in the bank. Everything was fine... until I decided, when I was lvl 80, to completly ignore this button, and I was destroying MANUALLY my materials out of my inventory. Once I joined a big guild, the guildmaster was chocked when I told him I was deleting my materials. I think I was doing that because the button "wasn't working anymore, or only for few materials". I didn't understand at this moment that materials were in my bank, and some of them reached the maximum stack of 250...

in general, that´s a good idea, but keep one thing in mind: you can use shift/ctrl/alt as a modifier, so if you bind dodge to shift, you will lose that possible modifier. This comes in handy for some keybinds. I personally (just to have an example) use Shift+E as my F5 (after the changes to mesmer) for my profession-ability 5 (which in case of mesmer, would be continuum-split when playing chronomancer) and alt+E for the special-action-key (which is important in strikes, raids and some fractals).

Played through Guild Wars 1 in its entirety before playing Guild Wars 2. Frankly, given how hardcore that game is by modern standards... Guild Wars 2 now feels simple and easy by comparison. I mean, the condition/hex/enchantment system in GW1 was... elaborate, to say the least. And the challenge could be absolutely merciless (have PTSD from those GW1 imps and their ability to insta-kill an entire party...) So I'd say, if you want to feel bulletproof going into GW2? Play some GW1. It'll put it all into perspective. Plus, it's a really good game.

@@xmezzy8902 In all honesty, I have so much fun on my Ele. It's become a bit of a meme that they're the "downed state meta" class, but that's in part because people like to play them full glass canon. If I run full berzerkers and trait for damage only, then, yeah. Hella squishh, which makes for a very intense learning curve. But you can absolutely spec for toughness as well, which won't give you quite the same thrill of high numbers, but gives you a bit of grace to learn the kite dance. And there's really nothing like that moment when you take out an enemy (or group of them!) which could easily two-shot you

I have an account of GW2 since 2015, linked to a GW1 account for the GWAMM and HOM goodies in EotN. and i think i just started playing GW2 when it got free to play. logged in, made a thief and went out for an adventure. i have found a thing on map, a brown circle with horns, went there, insta death... later in 2022 started playing again after i deleted that thief :D

    a) Ele is perfectly valid as a first char, it was mine as well. You get through all of the leveling with just fire (mix in water for group situations) and if you're feeling freaky you can always just throw out a basic rotation without fully knowing what the spells actually do. b) Skill clicking can work in conjunction with the keyboard. This goes particularly for utility skills because your "casting hand" will be firmly set on 1-5 and F1-F4 (depending on your profession), so moving away and back might actually take longer than a quick click. c) For new players, hoarding might actually be suboptimal. While you're F2P, you have very little space and getting rid of something that would get you some minor value might be outweighed by less inventory management, double-checking, etc.

i still click most of my skills because I‘m a lefty and have to use the mouse on my left hand. That means remapping every key and limited keys in general, even with a keyboard that has the gaps around the arrow keys as narrow as possible. I still get decent results, and I think for casual playing it’s totally fine

Heh, I rolled an Elly as my first char because I had one in GW1 and I struggled as well. But probably because GW2 was so different from GW1. I got some trouble with new concepts so it took me like a year because I got discouraged and went back to GW1. But I got the hang of it and I like tempest a lot. I never really bothered with alts because I like to stick to my Elly now.

I remember coming back in 2015 after 3 years away, I made a Gaurdian.. and of course I thought it was a Paladin tanky class with heals, since that's how it looks. Turns out it has the lowest hp in the game, and doesn't defend anything. Although now since the new specs you can play it as a Tank or Healing class.. Hell you can play it as a melee magic class too now or a ranged Hunter. The sepcs added so damn much, I just wish they would update the core classes.

Great video and oh my god I also started as an ele, because in WoW i played a shaman and I just liked the theme of the profession. And thanks for mentioning the change of movement keybinds, I had to skip a month and I thought I was going insane when I came back to the game and the character did not turn as it used to and I couldn't find anything on the internet about the change. The biggest mistake would be thinking GW2 is a traditional MMO in that the latest content is the only content to play and all other previous content is obsolete and invalid. It felt like players must have been rushing to max level asap or using level 80 tokens, then heading on over to End of Dragons. I saw many, many players with extremely low mastery and achievement points in EoD.

I got to 200 and nothing! No matter how much I gathered, it still said 1/5. I was like why? How much enzyme does this guy need... well, it turns out, not 200, I just needed to go talk with him again for the quest log to update 🙈😂😂😂

TBH ele is not complicated, just seems that way. Once you understand for the most part, before builds, its water for healing and trying to stay a live, electricity for crit damage and disruptions like stuns knock downs etc, earth is about bleeds and protection type stuff, fire is about flame dot and doing more aoe damage than the other elements tend too. This is very generalized, but its for beginners to keep in mind. Ele is more of a flow play style, if you disrupt that flow(misusing abilities/element changes) it causes a bunch of chaotic nonsense waves lol. If you are playing ele and want to be less focused on swapping elements, I guess tempest would be the way to go. Imo difficulty wise its High to low Weaver>Catalyst>Core Ele>Tempest. Also my opinion fun wise Weaver>Tempest>Catalyst>core ele

Time to start beginner-runs and give em time. I feel like the decade-collection makes veterans occupie the events in the starterzones and the new players can't keep up/get their kills/get to do events. This was badly timed by the devs... They could feel overhelmed and loose interest🤔 We veterans should provide support and help (maybe like get them up when down) instead of stealing their prey 😉 In Dungeons and other "endgame content" is more opportiunity to teach them i guess🤔 Anyone more ideas?

So the few things I personally disagree on are Skill clicking being bad. I picked Elementalist, and I prefer scepter and focus. Which means some of my skills need me to pick a specific place to use them. I very much prefer to just move my mouse to my skill then pick the place to cast so I can more easily figure out where my mouse is. The exception is for skills 2 and 3. I just dont like reaching halfway across my keyboard to hit 8 or 9. Double tap to dodge. I agree that turning that off for jumping puzzles is almost a necessity. But i dont personally feel comfortable taking a finger off of a movement key just to hit the dodge button. If I need to dodge to the right, it is significantly harder to use V rather than just tapping D twice. And the action camera. This style is more frustrating to me. The MMO I personally spent the most time on was Runescape. So I am far far more used to clicking on everything. And using action cam makes using those skills I mentioned earlier (the ones I need to specify where to cast them) much more annoying and disorienting to use since my entire view has to shift just to cast it where I want. Maybe if I were using a more melee focused character, I'd feel differently.

@@ZechsMerquise73 I’m hearing a bunch of things about “the proper rotations” (I assume that’s not hitting 2 through 5 & then pressing the next F key, lmao) & as well as that, it’s not just “reading the spells”, I’ve read all of them - but each has additional effects which aren’t detailed, like, they grant Might, Fury, etc. which I then need to look up elsewhere, never mind on top of that there’s the various build traits (Air, Arcana, Earth, etc) which contain additional things, some which aren’t relevant until you get elite specialisations because hell, I don’t think there’s a way base elementalist can give certain buffs to allies. That was a lot to absorb my first day back (& when I say “back” I was essentially playing for the first time - my elementalist was level 2 & hadn’t even done the first story), considering this is like my fifth or sixth log in today, haha. I’ve got a bit more of a handle on it, but that’s a tonne to dump on a brand new player, makes me wish I didn’t use a level booster. I’m sure I’d be much more happy with it if I was able to learn at the regular pace.
