You are the first reviewer who I have seen to slate the gearbox. The test drive I had in one was polar opposite of your review, so much so I ordered one and will take delivery in a weeks time. I am 5' 8" and managed to get a great driving position using the hight adjustment in the seat and steering wheel adjustment. I had no issues with the stop start. Even before ordering I thought it was probably the best looking cars in that segment.

Did around 500km in the car with automatic transmission. Literally nothing wrong with it, infact very smooth. Take a look at the review from top gear from 30th October.. they say and i quote: "More relevant is how hushed it is on a motorway cruise and just how flipping good the eight-speed automatic is. A bit of us dies inside saying it, but it’s a better choice than the manual." Don't believe everything you hear in these review form what car as the reviewer appears anything but objective... just arrange a test ride and see for yourself.

I was surprised and confused at this reviewers comments on the auto box. I had the use of a 3008 1.2 with the EAT gearbox and couldn't fault it (assuming it's the same box as this 2008). Far smoother than VW groups DSG box that's for sure.

Been driving a pre facelift GT model for close to 2 years. I would largely agree with the stop start issue, so that stays off all the time. The only other gripe is the head unit which would refuse to function when the ambient temperature is too high, which is a major pain when the AC is controlled by the screen. Otherwise, the overall refinements is very decent for the class. One thing the review fail to mention is the relative low kerb weight which you can really feel on the road when most compact SUV from a size above are hitting 1.8 tons.

Have just sold my 2020 GT Line Auto and mostly loved it. Was and still is one of the best looking cars on the road and always got compliments when people got in it. I agree with the stop start and gear changing. I actually found driving in eco mode to be much smoother with gear changes. I disagree with it being a soft ride that rolls in corners though. I found it the complete opposite. It was a very firm ride over bumps. I’ve just got a new 3008 and that is miles softer and really does lean in corners compared!

I have been driving a 2017 2008 GT Line for 5 years and generally I am pleased with it. I like the small steering wheel set up and the car has been comfortable to drive and good on fuel consumption. I was off the road for 10 weeks from last December due to the cam belt recall and spare part supply issues and very disappointing that no replacement vehicle was available. But I have been a Peugeot owner since 1983 and it is likely my brand loyalty will continue.

I first saw this a week or so before i picked up my 3 month old 2008 GT auto. I was a little concerned about the reviewers comment about the gearbox and stop/start, as most of my driving is short journeys around town. What utter rubbish he was talking. The stop/start is seamless, as soon as you come off the brake the engine starts, no delay whatsoever. The gearchange is smooth only noticable in lower gears. As for the instruments, does he not realise this is how we see things in real life, in depth. Does he get headaches just looking around all day! This my 4th 2008, all have been excellent and reliable I'm not too sure if this is the reviewers day job!

The stopstart is annoying and this should have been sorted, by now. However where I Iive, not stopping and starting very often, it doesn´t bother that much. Again because of where I live, with largely clear roads, the auto suits the car well. I drive in mountainous areas, a lot. The transmission is intuitive and rarely hiccups. I hardly ever use the paddles, except for a bit of fun. The worst part of this and many other cars is having to use the screen to adjust the a/c....please all manufactures stop this nonesense. 23 000 kilometres and no problems in a Spanish spec car.

I agree with the person who commented that you are the first reviewer to slate the 8-speed gearbox. Others say it's class leading, so perhaps you just had a bad experience with the particular car you had. I've had an 8-speed Allure and it's great. Also the i-Cockpit small steering wheel set up - I'm 5 foot 8 inches and fussy about my driving position, but I love it and have no issue at all at seeing the dashboard. Next, the soft suspension(?)... actually it's not soft (are you sure you were speaking about a Citroën?). If anything, the one slightly critical comment I would make is that the rear seat ride is a little harsh and the chassis can become slightly unsettled over mid-bend bumps. That said, nothing that spoils the fun. Whilst I also like the Ford Puma, the finish and interior lacks a that special feel of the Peugeot, the infotainment screen looks like an afterthought in the Ford (the screen is tiny and faces straight, not at the driver) and having had a close relation suffer the Eco-Boom engine issue at 30k miles in their Puma and have to fight Ford for months before they finally accepted liability and agreed with the lease company to share the £7k bill (after much stress) I wouldn't touch Ford at the moment.

Ive owned a 2008 GT Auto for the last two years and there's some things I disagree with about this review. The plus side of the 2008 are the finish , looks and the ride -which is very good generally on 17" wheels and the handling is OK. The minus are the engine, which like many of these 3 cylinders is great unless you rev it when it sounds like a bag of nails and uses a lot of petrol as the turbo comes in. Yes it's powerful on the turbo but at a price . I do agree the Auto-box is fairly poor and we also have to turn off the stop and start as it is very jerky. Another thing is I find the seats not that comfortable and you can not use the cruise control at all which is TOTALLY hidden behind the stering wheel.- I hope they have corrected this on the "new" model. I was hoping this upgraded model would have a modern hybrid engine but they obviously had the accountants cut that out!

Fortunately I’m retired and we have another vehicle, so not too much of an issue but they should have told me from the outset that there would be no replacement offered. However, my cam belt didn’t fail, the issue is now sorted so I shouldn’t have to replace it again in my ownership. The alert that there was an issue was low oil pressure and my mechanic told me not to drive it until it was sorted and he alerted me to the recall. My recall was dragged out to 10 weeks because of Christmas New Year and the shortage of spares.

My 2 RCZ's have no issues with their electrics, and I have owned one of those since new. The electrics on all the other modern Peugeots that I have owned have been trouble free, if you went VW for example, you would have many more issues with the electrics than that of a modern pug. The fact that the biggest issue with older pugs and electrics was mainly down to the wiring loom going into the door, which use to break when they were older as they became brittle, this has been resolved and now they are very reliable. Not sure what issues your son had on his RCZ but those were probably mechanical, lots of problems with the HPFP on the THP engine cars but the electrics are usually very reliable (note the mechanical parts that go faulty on RCZ's are BMW parts, which shows you how reliable German engineering has become).

Those Puretechs are disasters waiting to happen. Turbo, wet belt and direct fuel injection. I have the 3008 with the EAT8 gearbox and 130bhp Puretech, can confirm it’s jerky in traffic. Mine pulls against the brakes as I slow down, as the car surges with each down change. Feeling the car accelerate under braking is a disconcerting. Anyway, I’m definitely giving my car back at the end of the lease. Not surprised Whatcar gave it 3 stars and the Volvo XC40 5 stars. Hopefully when it’s time to change cars, XC40 deals will have come back. That was a much smoother car, better NVH suppression, smoother ride, engine and gearbox.

Despite all the talk, I haven't heard of many cambelt failures on this engine after,2019, and it's a widely used unit. At some point Peugeot are going back to chain cam anyway

I tried turning off the stop start because of this video, the car / gearbox is much better behaved. The trip counter shows in the past 160miles, the stop start has been on for around 1m 30seconds. Frankly I’d rather burn the fuel than put up with the extra jerkiness for that sort of petrol saving.

@@jdmguy44 I think they are trialling that with the hybrid only for now, if you go for the pure petrol Puretech, its still got a wet belt. TBF, Ford and Honda’s wet belt engines haven’t fared better, it’s literally the worst solution in terms of durability.

  • @jdmguy44

@@disarchitectedThat is not what I read online. The revised 1.2 Puretech will be fitted on all facelift 2008 apparently already in use on Vauxhall Mokka's. Incidentally Honda have never used wet cambelts. Only VW (with the 2.0TDi) Ford (ecoboost) and PSA/Stelantis.

I recently bought a 2017 Allure model. God I miss my 2000 Toyota Yaris Verso, is all I can say. That car was like a Tardis, the Peugeot? Well on the inside it's akin to a matchbox in comparison! Lots of electrickery but, I think that it's just more stuff to go wrong! Oh and no Sat Nav. Let's not mention the Achilles heel, OK I will. The very expensive cam belt! They break down and clog the oil strainer which in turn starves the engine of oil and BOOM! Time for a new engine, or at least a very expensive repair. 5 to 7 hundred pounds (I've seen quoted on YT) just to change the belt and about 3 to 5 hours to do the job I believe.

Damn sick and tired of expensive SUVs being the norm and advertised the most, creating inflation too whilst abandoning segments for Chinese EVs to take over. Shareholders cant complain as long as profit margins are growing above inflation can reduce profit value... Spoiled autojournalists over the past decade share some blame.

Depends, anything based on the Golf Mk8 electrical architecture is seriously dodgy out of the box. Read Whatcars reliability survey for cars upto 5 years old in their latest issue. I chose a Peugeot over any VAG car because all things considered, I thought it would be more reliable for the term of the lease deal.

My son's 2006 Pug 206 1.4 16v sport is still running sweetly and has had no major parts since we bought it seven years ago for £900. It also has no corrosion and a perfect interior. Pugs have been good for a long time, if you pick exactly the right model. Another plus for the 206 is that it is not some stupid SUV. In contracts his other car, a 2002 4.4 V8 BMW saloon, has had plenty of parts, fortunately that is easy to work on and well screwed together.@@disarchitected
