Not the worst job but done right. I know time is money, but just slow down a bit and you won't miss the little things. I know because I have been there a few times. Your positive attitude is most refreshing. Thanks for letting us tag along for this one!
Door damage 😡!!! Mistakes happen. What really matters is how they are handled. As long as the tire shop owns up to it and pays for repairs. In the end, it is just one of life’s inconveniences and hopefully a lesson learned for the tech involved. Another great video Ray. Keep ‘em coming

I wrecked a customer's car when another mechanic was doing a brake job. he put the wheels on and went to lunch. boss thought it was done and had me back it out. turned out he wasn't done and I nailed a light pole and horseshoed the backend of the car! brakes hasn't been bled yet.

@@TruckNewDriver I'm speaking from my personal professional experience, may differ from others depending on where they live, shop integrity, ect ... The replacement door will have to be oem spec, wether it's a used door fixed up, or oem or aftermarket new door. Usually there will be a adjacent panel as blend panel, to ensure correct color match to the rest of car. But that door for sure is junk now lol
if i've learned anything working on cars, its that when you drop a bolt, DO NOT go reaching for it! Just go get the magnet on a stick right away before you try to grab it and it falls even deeper down.
I was waiting for you to say "I tightened it when ya'll weren't looking". Nice job and you eventually remembered everything.
I went to pick up my parents at an airport. Then I proceeded to stat my mini van nothing happened. Took out hammer from the tools I always travel with. Banged on starter bingo, started up. Next day replaced its. Keep up the great work.
Damn Ray, You have better handwriting with a rotary grinder than I do with a pen!
My jaw dropped when you showed the door I bet the owner of the alignment shop isn't happy with the person backing the car out

If I was owner of that tire shop that tech would be fired cuz I don't put up with kind of carelessness.
Did not forget the starter solenoid but was very surprised to see you attach the leads before you fastened the starter motor back in. Gues that is just the way you roll, for whatever reason. 🙂
Wife unit "parked" under the reserved space for wife unit sign, that was epic!

How many people freaked out at the beginning. In Ray they need to trust. Have a great day. Stay safe and be well.
The cross member over the battery gives me chills, just like my 2008 Impala SS. And then it gets to the end with the actuator and I cry because mine still does it too.
Rsy you made my day today. Two videos, one this morning (the spindle bearing) and the starter tonight. Such a shame the alignment/tire shop crunched the door. Those A/C actuators sound terrible, i hope you'll be fixing them soon. Beautiful car. Thanks again and you and your family have a great day.
And we form communities based on common interests, hobbies, and professions. I don't like to critique because I make mistakes everyday, numerous times a day but Ray some people are just awesome at their jobs and never makes mistakes and talk trash to us who are mere mortals! 😊
I saw you missed the starter power nut. I said noooo as you put the air box back. Then my thought was “I love my job so much, I do it twice”. 😂😂

Big storm coming. All the modifications to the truck can be tested!! Stay safe Ray 🙏🏼
"Ray, you forgot something!" *points at screen*. This has become my standard response in such situations :D
Nice straight forward video . I felt your pain looking at that door . I left my wife’s car at Firestone for a oil change once . They called me 2 hrs later to let me know one of the install bay gates fell on our car . It left a dent on the roof . I was very annoyed. but I took it in stride and insurance adjuster called me right away. my car was repaired in about two weeks .
There ain't one OF US who are perfect. We ALL tell lies, we ALL make mistakes, we ALL could have done better. Just keep on going!
Thanks for the laugh at the end. Hope you and the Family stay safe during the Hurricane, we are preparing big time in JAX.
Ray, you all stay safe with the upcoming storm!! See you after the storm is over!!
I usually comment when people forget stuff but on your videos I tend to hold myself at bay because you usually get it before the videos over. Like the shock bolt the other week. Either that or someone beats me to it. Lol😂
Once I took our 67 T-Bird in for an oil change at a quick lube. The "tech" asked what he had to do to drive the car forward over the pit. I said, "Are you going to drive the car with the door open? The swing away wheel does not lock into place until you SHUT THE DOOR
Morning Ray, thanks for sharing this repair. I had visions of laying on the ground trying to get the starter out. I was surprised when it came out on top. I can't believe how well your wabble sockets work. Too bad about the door hope the paint matches 🙏. Thanks for sharing this video and don't forget to have a great day.
Fun to watch to see what you forgot to do, but knew you would find out. Also, I wonder if someone got fired after damaging the vehicle.

Doubtful, while it sucks to damage a vehicle, over a year the tech will make more for the company than the cost of a door + salary. Retraining and briefs are much cheaper than talent hunting.

Lol that was me I was yelling at my screen you forgot it😅then again when you grabbed a 12 instead of a 10 lol loved it all
You didnt forget to tighten the nut of the starter Ray! Just a little later😊 It only can become a problem when it tries to start without tightening😅
I have a new appreciation for your work in the Florida heat, visiting in LWR!
RAY! I owned a 1987 IROC-Z and,.... I had to install a special Heat Shield on the solenoid just to keep the starter from grenading. The exhaust was Headers and the heat from them was so intense, it would fry the starter. I replaced two starters before I discovered the solution.
Nice job Ray, to bad about the door. Nice how you take everything in stride and keep moving forward, what's done is done.
Wow! Good stylish signature job and ouch! Back in the late seventies at the service station I used to work at the customer was starting to back his own car out of the service bay while halfway outside of his car, lost his footing, punched the acceleratior pedal and caught the door on bay opening wall and bent his door forward. Nothing but his feelings were hurt though
the bolt at the end "No! I refuse to be installed easily, silly mechanic, I will run!" :D
Hey ray I live in Tampa been working on car for 35 yrs also and it a hobby now, also a Machinist, I'd like to say you're a good mechanic. That sometimes you have to slow down. Because sometimes I see you making mistakes. I wish I could reach in there and say. Hey, slow down. Now today you are working on that SS Monte Carlo 2007. And you dropped that bolt over the engine That fell down in there and sometimes it's impossible to find them because cars are so impact, One thing I will never tell you how to do your job at your business. And you run it the way you want to. You'll never get no criticism from me. Only thing I would like to say, At the end of your tapes, let the people know what your customers think on the work you do on their cars, it's very important. Every time i've worked on a customer's car, i've always made sure it was to their specifications and how they wanted as I weren't happy, I have a rebuilt hundreds of engines and I have done some really nice hot rods. I used to Internet Fon the Gandhi bridge. The Old Airport Road by Tampa International 8 mile road I can go on. This was back in the 70s. Enjoyed everything I could do to a car and being a machinist, And also I used to build four by four with forty four is on them quad shocks, And my favorite engine was always a 450 four, couldn't beat it. Pull one out of a Buick electric 225. And also I love the old Ford. Grand torino beautiful Or a nineteen sixty seven 2 door chevrolet nova What date is 350 What A monthly m twenty tdo with a shattered box and a dana Rear end 411 positive that Car screamed like a mash cat. One of my best cars A barracuda formula s. With 2 holly 4 barrow I can go on and on good luck on your business And I hope for your Success and keeping that business And running smooth., And just remember one thing. Your customer isn't always right, but they are. And as long as you take care of that. And don't try. And over price zone you will always have a successful business, Remember this one bad customer ( complaint) Goes a long ways but a happy customer sometimes doesn't go nowhere, One day I will come down and visit you, I'm getting too old to work on these cars but I love it. So keep up the good work. And by the way, I watch all your programs. They're very good, interesting. Just patience is a virtue,
Well at least they are repairing it (the door). Great job Ray
Thats a hell of a nice car to restore! Im a collector of oddities so thats right up my alley.
Stay safe Ray and family.
Nicely done Ray! Yeah, I initially thought you tightened the starter bolts off camera. Now, I WAS surprised you did not clean the rusty battery clamps before re-attaching!
May fav part was when he dropped that bolt at the end, i laughed out so loud because i only thought it only happens to me 😂😂😂 that's pretty much my luck when everything else goes smooth in my repairs and the last bolt goes to the dark side 🙃
Thank you for being illuminational illuminating that lumens illuminate😎
Always enjoy your videos and have a fantastic day
Hi all , yes we are from all over the place, I here in ottawa ontario Canada, live your videos,
there is inherent logic in putting all those computer modules inside air filter assembly. this would the coolest part of engine bay. hence increased reliability & fewer failures.
So much hate for the tire shop. I get it- they made a big mistake, but before I cut them off, I'd consider whether this is a rare mistake or whether they are inattentive on a regular basis. I'd also figure in how quick they were to take responsibility and try to make it right. Second chances, people. I'm sure you would like one from time to time.

I was expecting you to say that you tightened the starter solenoid off camera. Well done for admitting it.
That exhaust just *cooks* the starter - kind of amazed it lasted ~16 years! I forgot about the solenoid fastening!
Yes, for solenoid nut, battery terminal and corner strut brace. You did say you were running with a couple of plug leads removed today.
Good luck with the storm mate, I hope your preparations are complete, I think you may need them.

Great job and nice catch on the loose starter contacts!
Thats pretty clever putting the computer in the airbox. Helps keep it cool when the motor bay is hot. Im not a fan oc electronics under the hood but if your going to do it thats probably the best place short of high humidity.

Ray, I just saw the hurricane forecast. You might get to use your truck for a generator sooner than you would have wanted to. I know you are watching the weather. Florida sure doesn't need another hurricane.
I see the heat shield on the exhaust but would think GM would also have a heat shield around the solenoid. Nearly 40 yrs ago a had a Firebird with the 400 and changed starters every few months until my dad looked at it and helped me fabricate a heat shield for it. It's solenoid sat only about 2 inches away from the exhaust cross over just as in the case of this SS Monte Carlo and the heat was burning up the solenoids Another great video Ray, we're praying for all yall in Florida with the hurricane that's coming

I had one of those moments this weekend with my son. We were doing some basic maintenance on the family cars when I asked my son to drive my wife's car up onto the ramps on our driveway. He gave it too much gas and overshot the ramps. He ended up landing on some wheels that were sitting in front of the car. There was a loud bang and plumes of smoke. We had fun dislodged the car from the ramps and tires. Fortunately the damage wasn't too bad. The smoke and popping were just the result of the AC line's rubber layer getting jammed against the AC clutch and bursting.
