NEW Official Unboxing Airfix- Consolidated B-24H Liberator (A09010)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The second of America's great four-engined heavy bombers of the Second World War, the Consolidated B-24 Liberator began development after the Army Air Corps approached the company to build B-17 Flying Fortresses. Unimpressed at the prospect, Consolidated proposed that they could design and produce their own bomber in the same time it would take them to establish production lines, and it would be better than a Flying Fortress.

When their XB-24 prototype took to the air on 29th December 1939, it was a very different-looking aeroplane to the B-17 Flying Fortress, with its shoulder-mounted thin wings, deep, yet narrow fuselage and twin-boom tail, it had a maritime aircraft appearance about it. Following its eventual USAAF introduction in 1941, the B-24 Liberator was produced in vast quantities, serving in every theatre during the Second World War, and making a vital contribution to the Allied War effort.

Good to see the seperate node section. This leads to an earlier version as well. What I am really suprised off is the fact that Airfix did not do a B-17F early this year by adding part to their excellent -G model. Masters of the Air was exclusevly -F models and movie models tend to seel well. A missed oppertunity IMHO

The REAL "missed opportunity" was the historical clusterfuck they made Natural Metal (NMF) B.17-F's in 1945 didn't happen - it's utterly laughable Also, 15th AF "Tuskegee Airmen" did NOT escort B.17's over Denmark, The Baltic Sea, nor the North Sea, especially NOT back in 1943, it's horseshit

Further to the above : My Dad's best mate is/was exceedingly close with Al' Freijtas, ball gunner on "Our Baby" - (they got that bit "right") "Our Baby" was lost over Bremen on 8th Oct' 1943 (Cleven on board) Why they (film-makers) fucked-up after that is inexcusable.... I don't expect to see Breitlings & Rolex on Napoleonic Soldiers 1815 Nor do I expect to see Smartphones or Internet in a 1914-1918 movie The idiots who made "Munsters of the Air" shoulda stuck to "G"s (1945 scenes More to the point - don't fuck with historical accuracy.... Natural Metal Finish (N.M.F) Boeing B.17-F's DID NOT HAPPEN over Berlin in vast formations in April 1945 = (they'd been replaced//retired by then) Nor did the ("Let's appease the F'kn WOKE BRIGADE") Tuskegee Airmen show up in the ETO using Italy based MTO x P.51's near Denmark nor The Baltic !! Especially NOT in 1943 - (done to appease idiots & the 'WOKE' luvvies Very first of the P.51 escorts & were 354th, 355th & 4th F.G's = NOT TUSKEGEES The first BERLIN raid was 6th March '44 - (Tuskegee's weren't over E.T.O_) Far too many "Historical Clusterfucks" in this 8th A.F garbage The makers defacated on Historical accuracy during this crap. Like doing a remake of "Bullitt" & giving Steve McQueen a 1973 "MACH.1" Or giving Phillias Fogg (David Niven) a 747 for Round World 80 in days Or putting Jean Harlow or James Cagney inside a Saturn.V in "White Heat" Ridiculous !!

The machine guns are wrong. American M2 Brownings didn't have that silly little blast deflector just behind the muzzle. They were only seen on British Liberators. So the builder is forced to replace or cut them back. Which, of course, makes the guns scale too short.

  • @pencilpauli9442

That's okay. I'm only going to want to build a RAF Coastal Command version But I take your point. They are going to be a pain to replace, especially the cheek mounted Brownings in the transparent p art.

@pencilpauli9442 Understood. I too hope for a Coastal Command version down the road. But this is terribly annoying when representing an American B-24.

@@Chilly_Billy The guns could have been made on their own sprues. It would have bumped up production costs but would have been worth the effort imho

@@pencilpauli9442 Exactly. Or do the correct guns for this release and then add a small sprue with British-style guns for RAF Liberators. It's quite common among all kit manufacturers, including Airfix.

Looks nice but Hasegawa's finesse will be hard to beat : Airfix's today quality is ok but their recessed details are often a bit too deep/wide or a combination of both, on a 1/24 kit it's fine but on a 1/72 kit it can look goofy.
