Congrats Ash! One of my favorite challenge is to pick locks full of security pins with rakes only. These would definitely be a great addition to my collection. BTW, you don’t always need to switch your pick when you get a false set. Most of the time, the remaining spools will be among the higher (in Europe) pins and you can feel them with the teeth of you rake (that’s why I prefer aggressive / dynamic profiles). They feel solid and give some feedback in your tensioner. Just release the tension while insisting on those pins and you should be able to set them. You may drop some other pins in the process but you have already been able to set them once, you just need to set them again with one pin less in your way. Cheers 🥂

I think it would have been better is your name/logo was of the opposite side, such as when you are holding the pick, your name/logo is facing you right-side up. As it is now, it is upside down if you were to use the pick with pins on top of plug.

I admit I am not really into raking, I assume it's because I am still new and feel that when that work it's pure luck and I did not learn everything, but this pair look really good and multipurpose, they can probably replace most of them easily enough and reduce the size of the set I think. I hope it is not a one time or limited thing, I would love to be able to order them in a few month after I become a little more experienced for my everyday set!

  • @LockNoob

    @LockNoob

    3 жыл бұрын

Hey!, some raking is luck, but skillful raking really is a thing. some locks that are almost impossible for most people to rake are able to be raked by experts in the technique. Skillful raking isn't about waiting for a random event, its statistically increasing the chances of a controlled opening :-)

Honestly, I wasn't going to be surprised if another of your designs got retailed, but I thought it was gonna be Sparrows. Never saw this coming! As for the picks themselves, I like the idea of a City Rake that is actually a rake and not a rocking pick (Abona), so I might try it, but only if I ever order from Multipicks. I am sure their quality is amazing, but they are expensive ($12.69 for Abona, while Medusa and Monkey Paw are both $4.95 😖) EDIT: Multipicks single picks cost from around $9.58 to $10.86. It's only Abona and Monith that are $12.69 from what I see. Would you know if this is because they are new and the price will go down at some point, or it's the final one?

Multipick costs more but its absolutely worth it! I have sparrows, peterson, law locktools and multipick and multipick is by far my favorite. But then again my girlfriend prefers Sparrows.. so its personal preference. I have bought Sparrows and Multipicks dimple picks too And i find multipick better there too. The picks dont bend as much. I had trouble with the handles from multipicks dimple kit because they were so slim. I prefer Sparrows their handles but thats all. After 6 months i'm used to the slim handles now. Peterson is in fourth place.. handles are good but i dont like their picks very much As for the rakes: I dont think the price will go down much, a bit probably after some time. The price just has to do with production costs and demand. Rakes are less bought i think. They look very good, i'm more into SPP and havent used rakes much but i will give them a try with my next order from them.

Hi Lock Noob, Congratulations, you never know what is going on behind the scenes! Picks designed by yourself from Sparrows and Multipick, says it all. Was never impressed with the city rake, and often wondered why it was also called the "L" rake. Both new rakes appear to be improvements on old designs, and that has to be a plus. BTW how did you come up with the two new names? Regards, Brian.

  • @LockNoob

Thank you! Monith is the Celtic name for mountain or hill. When I first stated looking at these picks I named them ‘city and hills’ due to their look and inspiration. Abona is the name of a Roman settlement the was before the city I live in existed, Bristol. So still city and hills 😃

Just another idea for your cooperation with Multipick: BOK tensioners with thickness in between the current ones. Often it is the case, that Elite SP12 is a little loose, but SP13 just does not fit in. Then I would love to have an "SP12A" or "SP12+" tensioner with a thickness in between (0,9 mm instead of 0,8 mm). I would buy them, to get better control of the core. What do you think?

I can see exactly how this is going to go .... o I will pop onto the multipick website and and pick up the lock noob picks, but I dont have any other multipick stuff so maybe just a small set to go with them, well it's better value to buy a bigger set and well i will need a tok set to top it up oooooo I might as well get a core puller while i am here ............. I hope you are happy lock noob you can explain the bill to my other half lol

the working names for these were 'City and Hills' due to their inspiration and look. Monith is Celtic for mountain, or hill, while Abona is the original Roman settlement of my home City, Bristol. So still City and Hills :-)

I will probably give these a try. I just hope multipick don't pull the same guff the other company did with your medusa pick, where they sent me a pick that was scaled up in every way from the pick they sent you, so it didn't fit in most of my locks. Just sayin...

Gonna ask a stupid question....I’m not used to buying overseas, so the price on the Multipick website said 10,90 euros. Isn’t that like 13 US dollars? Can I order from the US ?

Great work, as usual. I might not have named that one pick "a boner", but that's just me ;) Kidding aside, I'll keep those in mind for when I decide to add more rakes to my arsenal. Are those available in a single thickness only? Unfortunately Multipick does not seem the show them under their "latest" tab yet

Why not? There’s probably going to be a pick set. A boner Double boner Triple boner Quadruple boner

Just getting into picking locks and honestly I don't see any joy or pleasure from raking locks open. Unless locksmith is your job and getting into a lock as fast as possible is your mission , for those pursuing this hobby I suggest you ignore all these silly expensive one job tools.

I tend to almost exclusively SPP locks on video, but there is a HUGE amount of skill taking higher/high security locks, especially European ones. Just because you don’t enjoy it, doesn’t mean other’s shouldn’t or that it doesn’t require a lot of skill 👍
