NEW MEXICO: a SCENIC motorcycle roadtrip from Chama to Taos and Eagle Nest
Welcome to New Mexico, welcome to “the Land of Enchantment.” Travel on some of the most beautiful roads from Colorado all the way through New Mexico to Texas with me and visit majestic mountain tops, the artistic town Taos, and one of the most famous churches of the area.
The ride took me from Durango through parts of the San Juan National forest to Pagosa Springs and to New Mexico. Here are the best roads to ride and places to visit in Northern New Mexico:
00:00 Drive over Colorado's beautiful roads to New Mexico
03:16 From Chama follow Highway 64 to Tierra Amarilla and from there to Tres Piedras, it is one of the most beautiful rides of New Mexico.
03:59 US 64 climbs the back side of the monumental Brazos Cliff , entering into the timberland of the Carson National Forest. Be on the lookout because of the large Elk population as the road winds toward the Tusas Mountain - and make sure to bring enough time to enjoy the amazing views.
05:34 At Tres Piedras, the highway drops into sagebrush mesa before crossing the Río Grande Gorge Bridge-565 feet or 172 meters above the river.
06:22 Visit the Sangre de Cristo Mountains - which is Spanish for "Blood of Christ" are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. They are located in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico
07:11 Stay a night in Taos and explore the galleries and arts of the vibrant little town. The best place to stay: Casa Benavides B&B
10:10 Visit Taos Pueblo a UNESCO World Heritage
11:06 To see some other stunning architecture of the area check out San Francisco de Asís Mission Church on the main plaza of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. It was built between 1772 and 1816, replaced an earlier church in that location, and is the only original church which remains intact in the Taos area.
13:40 Drive the „The Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway“ all the way to Eagle Nest Lake State Park

Watching videos of Lea, turns my rainy days into sunny ones .....
US 64 is my road. I live just off it in east Tennessee. I've ridden it from the Atlantic ocean to Teec Nos Pos AZ. New Mexico is the best part.
Your pronunciation of the Spanish towns, churches, etc was very good. As a native of northern NM, your video was excellent. Just don’t tell too many people about Northern NM it’s one of the best hidden secrets in America! I would say come during the winter, lots of snow and really cold in Taos & Chama!
I love living in New Mexico . 87107, is awesome . Not going anywhere. Lovely state , wonderful people.
Spectacular coverage of places I’ve been to many times, but in a vehicle.
From Eagle Nest to Cimarron, route 64 passes through the Philmont scout ranch, my home for summer employment during my college years. I miss it every day..
I love this lady!
Another beautiful ride Lea in a place you like very mucj I think
One of my favorite rides! Taos is amazing and the culture is full of life. Thanks for sharing.

I bumped the send by accident. Mounting and balancing really adds a lot to a tire price. I have always done mine for 6 bikes and a lot of years. New Mexico is a special place no daught. I have made a game of not riding my t7 on the interstate as long as possible, the 2 lanes roads have a better feel as you know. Chow

That a very wise decision - I unfortunately had to ride a lot of interstate at one point on this trip… 😩
Great video. I truly love New Mexico. Thanks for sharing.
I move mobile homes and buildings down these same roads no matter how many times or the time of day or year I get the same feeling off love for my state that this video does great job and thank you for getting so many awesome pictures and thank you for showing your many viewers the real new mexico .
i hitchhiked this exact same route. ridgway to durango. durango to pagosa springs. pagosa to chama. chama to just passed tierra amarilla. turn onto 64 and finished tripping into taos. nice video. thank you.
Hi Lea, I live in Espanola, about 35 miles S. of Taos. Thanks for shinning such a bright light on our beautiful state. A great place to live and ride and ride and ride!!!! Cheers...

Your presentation is so refreshing, your perspectives and prose praiseworthy. Thanks for helping your American friends appreciate the beauty we have in our own Hof, er backyard ha. 👌🏼

I have been in New Mexico, in Santa Fe, some years ago. As I'm Spaniard, It feels like be at home. What a trip!! I'm planning to do something similar in 1 year or maybe too... Before I get too much old for that ! hahaha. Cheers.
Thanks for showcasing the state where I live. I am quite familiar with all the routes you took and frequently ride up from Albuquerque to Durango and Pagosa Springs, Chama, Taos, Red River, Angel Fire etc. we are blessed with year round riding here for the most part. NM does have spectacular motorcycle riding state wide.

We stayed in Chama and rode 64 to Taos, great ride. Not too much in way of services on the route, so fill up before you head out.

The Brazos Cliffs are spectacular as seen in the third wolverine film Logan.
Crazy to see you in a place I know so well! Can't wait to ride through next year on my Himalayan!
This may have been mentioned, but Santa Fe New Mexico is more beautiful than Taos. If you make it back to the US and travel New Mexico again I suggest you think about Santa Fe. 😀

Very nice camera work and commentary. The inquiry you did into our states history and drone footage really add to your video. I will be riding my recently restored (and somewhat modified) 1951 Harley through northern NM in just a few weeks, and plan to document some nearby but different spots than you chose. A second trip, perhaps next spring, will be up to Monument Valley, some shots of which you can see in the cult classic film "Electra Glide in Blue." I'm writing a new mystery thriller, some of which takes place in that area, so it'll be a dual-purpose trip. Take care and keep up the beautiful work!

Thanks for the ride! Beautiful video and great editing. My Wife and I have ridden these roads several times. We never get tired of it. I especially like the area north and west of Taos. The byway there goes in and out of Colorado, east to west. Very scenic and not crowded. Happy Trails!
Bendiciones te deseo lo mejor
Great video
I have ridden HWY 64 many times. It is a motorcycle treasure.. You should have stopped at the Viet Nam Memorial in Angle Fire. The first building built (visible from the highway) is a chapel. It was built by a local doctor to honor his son; who was killed along with several platoon members in a ambush. The memorial has grown to include a museum, archives and most recently a grave yard for fallen soldiers. For those of us who served in the military it is a very emotional place to visit. Almost all the Native American Reservations are closed to visitors. Covid-19 hit them hard and the big numbers of deaths in NM were on the reservations.
Great video! I'd love to visit NM again!
