NORTH GEORGIA: From BRASSTOWN BALD to DAHLONEGA - the BEST places to visit

Join a journey to the North of the state Georgia - from Georgia's highest mountain Brasstown Bald, to the remote Helton Creek Falls, through the Chattahoochee National Forest to the scenic town Dahlonega.
I always used to think, that nothing can go wrong, when traveling the mountains. Because the mountains is where I feel at home. But Northern Georgia and its scenic Blueridge Mountains had its own challenges waiting. Dense fog, adventurous watercrossings and a stunning ride that took me to Brasstown Bald, Helton Creek falls and to the most beautiful roads of the Chattahoochee National Forest all the way to the town Dahlonega. Enjoy a roadtrip to Northern Gerorgia's best destinations.
My highlights of the journey:
- Book a night at Brasstown Valley Resort to unwind and have the perfect base for trips in the nearby area
- Visit the highest point of the state: the mountain Brasstown Bald. The native Cherokee peoples name for Brasstown Bald is Enotah and It is located in the northeastern part of the state in the Blue Ridge Mountains and is supposed to have the best views of the whole state. On a clear day, it is possible to see the tall buildings of Atlanta, 85 miles or 136 kilometers away, from the summit
- Visit the remote Helton Creek Waterfalls. The Helton Creek road is a nice serviced forest road - if you ride the full lenght and do a roundtrip, you will have to cross the creek twice.
- From Highway 19 turn off to route 180 direction Suches and then turn north west on route 60 to Blue Ridge.
- Explore the Chattahoochee National Forest . It may best be known as the southern end of the Appalachian Trail. The expansive forest area sprawls over 750,000 acres or 3000 square kilometers of protected forest land in the North Georgia mountains. Indeed one of the best times of visiting is not spring but autumn, to enjoy the leaves turning from green to yellow to red
- Stay a night in the scenic town Dahlonega. Dahlonega is also called the heart of the Georgia mountains. Site of the first major U.S. Gold Rush and the center of Georgia Wine Country, Dahlonega is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and a popular destination for weekend trips from Atlanta, which is only an hour drive.
- Meet and have a chat with all the friendly locals :)

Lea! This episode was so good. We were totally gobsmacked when you took the drone over the clouds! Such a stunning sequence. We loved it. And yes, I agree with you about the chattiness of my fellow Americans. My last long ride was from Iowa to Seattle. Almost every gasoline stop resulted in conversations with the local people. To me, that is one of the best parts of these trips.

Lea, I ride my motorcycle (a 2018 Triumph Speedmaster) to Dahlonega nearly every weekend and have made several trips to Suches, Blairsville and Brasstown Bald. I've never heard of Helton Creek Falls before, but I'm going to sit back and enjoy watching you ride through there. I would never have attempted to ride through the dirt road and creeks with my limited riding skills. I commend you on your skills! and watching the drone footage is breathtaking. I love your channel.

Fantastic mountain scenery lea, but the drone footage was a genius idea and surreal looking down through the clouds down to the forest below, as much as I love water based scenery it's mountains all the way for me

Yes Lea we Americans can be a talkative bunch. I tend to be that way my self. When I was out traveling on my motorcycle I had all kinds of strangers that I didn't know walk up and start talking to me. It is kind of fun hearing what they have to say and I do the same thing when I see other tourists. I think it is because we want to be helpful and welcoming some how. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing!

And it IS helpful. So many of the roads that you saw in the last episodes I would not have done if i would not have met people and locals suggesting them to me - like Helton creek in this episode and basically all of the Arkansas episode. I am very thankful for that! My own nature is as well a bit more reserved, so I am always happy if people approach me and I don’t need to approach them 😂

As chatty as they may be there , you need to come to Maritime Canada where we are known for not only our willingness to talk, but for the incredible hospitality you will receive. Maybe in a future adventure . Loved your courage to take on the water crossings, always a sense of accomplishment when you master them. See you next week.

I loved the drone video you made. I experienced the same weather situation last year (2022) in late October. Couldn't get a view because it was cloudy, windy and raining. But I went all the way to the top of the tower. It was definitely a different but amazing experience. Strong winds with fog like clouds were pouring all over my body... a totally refreshing experience. I was feeling kinda sad for not getting a view and went Helton Creek Falls later and it was a small beautiful fall. Loved it. Going back this year again to Brasstown. Hopefully, I will get a breathtaking view this time.

Lea, I have enjoyed following you for quite a while and wanted to thank you for your work. I really enjoyed the drone view flying over the fog. You make the most of your situation. I live about 140 km from Atlanta and have been motorcycle camping/touring since 1964 so I can relate to many of your choices. jt

I’m from Texas but lived in Orlando, Florida for many years. I love the southeast Coast of the US. But it’s hard to get the Texas out of me. The USA is so diverse geographically as well as culturally. There’s so much to love about the US. Please come back and spend a lot more time here. I assume you left this T7 in Miami. Come back in the Spring, which is March in the Southern half of America. As summer nears you can turn more north. We hope you return very soon. Ride safe and have fun. 🇺🇸

How ironic that my husband and I just arrived home from a vacation in NE TN and a small portion of N GA. And saw your video. I love your video, but any video can't show how beautiful that part of the country really is. I had to laugh at your comment about how chatty Americans are , you are correct. I was born in Salzburg Austria and raised EU but also American . We EU are more formal and reserved , keeping more to themselves vs chatting with a perfect stranger. Americans tend to also give more information on themselves to perfect strangers then is required on a first meeting , if you noticed. Being of both EU and American , I can do both 😂 Happy trails I will keep watching, I tend to watch travel videos of all kinds, traveled myself in a much different manner then you and bike. And can't get enough of travel so when I am not traveling myself I watch others ,I take notes and maybe I too will visit if I have not. Happy riding and traveling , every country has its own remarkable beauty. Happy safe travels. 🚲🌍
