At the first thought yes. On the second- “What? I had 2 gen old entry lvl iPad and now I buy new iPad 10th and I have to buy all new pencil and can’t use the old one?” It makes sense to offer cheaper adapter for people, who need that and not force to buy much more expensive 2nd gen Pencil. Built in comparability would cannibalise iPad Air .

@@martinsskutans6646 it still doesn’t explain why they couldn’t have also installed a magnetic wireless charger on the side so that the iPad can support BOTH generations of Apple Pencil. also now that such a dongle exists, I don’t understand why all of the second gen supported iPads can’t support the first gen. There’s no information from Apple or news outlets saying they use different digitizers types so I’m not going to assume that it’s impossible to make the two types compatible with one another

@@jakestar121 I guess if they REALLY REALLY wanted , they could. But what’s the point of iPad Air then? Laminated display? I guess it is purposefully not perfect to leave room for disadvantages compared Air and good enough to consider choosing this instead of 9th gen. Especially for those who don’t need Apple Pencil. iPad lineup is more cluttered then ever tho

M2 wallpapers are the best part of this announcement. Can’t wait to put them on my 2018 iPad Pro 😅

I'm not an illustrator but I believe the hovering is a huge plus for them. It's not to let you know that the pen is close to the screen. Being able to preview the brush size like that is really more intuitive and nicer.

I have a Galaxy Tab and the stylus has a hovering feature. It's really nice when reading as well. It's a good visual guide to where I am on the page.

Absolutely, and when you look at other devices that pro artists use like a wacom cintiq that device has always had a cursor hover. In addition so does the Galaxy Tabs and Surface Tablets/Laptops.

I agree, one of those really subtle, but really nice quality-of-life improvements that you won’t consciously think about, but will use anytime you’re using that pencil.

So happy I went with an Air 4 instead of waiting for an iPad 10th Gen. I had a feeling it was going to basically be a gimped Air 4, comparing the two. Really glad I managed to get a good deal at Best Buy (during a sale, and trading in my old iPad for $100) for basically $300. Being $450, lacking Apple Pencil 2 support, laminated display, and a needing to justify keeping the Smart Connector on the side to prevent using the Magic Keyboard, or Logitech cases, for a slightly cheaper option, AND keeping the 9th gen iPad on sale…I’m honestly lost at who this iPad is appealing to. They had to create a new manufacturing line for this; makes no sense.

I'm convinced that the iPad Air 4 refurbished and used stock is going to plummet in the coming weeks. For anyone who's tech savvy enough to compare the two models, it makes absolutely no sense to go with an iPad 10th generation unless you LOVE the landscape front facing camera. I'm really glad that I bought a used iPad Air 4 for my artistic fiancee earlier this year. Procreate still works incredibly well on an iPad Air 4, with 4GB of RAM and an A14 processor.

I've got the ipad 8 and still see literally no reason to upgrade. Added storage space to the baseline version might have been an easier sell, but... the only real good news from this announcement is davinci and octaneX and i'm sure the only worthy upgrades that would conceivably support them are apple silicon and theres also little incentive to upgrade to that with the price points they're charging.

The prices went up significantly in Australia. The 12.9 inch iPad Pro was ~A$1500 before, now it’s ~A$1900. It is a MASSIVE price increase.

Same in Uk 12.9 inch is £1,249 and last one was £999 now the 11inch is £899

There is one other difference in the Apple TV 128GB/Ethernet version over the 64GB/No Ethernet version. It has an additional Thread radio that allows it to be a Matter hub. If you want to support Matter in your home automation, do not get the 64GB version if you want it to be a hub because Matter needs Thread support.

Charging the Apple Pencil directly on the iPad was already awkward enough.... Now you have to use an adapter and worry not lose both the adapter and pencil cap 😂😂😂

the original apple pencil also came with an adaptor.. back then it was female lightning to female lighting, they just swapped 1 side to 1 female usb c

I have an iPad Air 4 which I bought on launch day. The only reason I can think of to get a different one is if you want a different sized screen, either the mini if you you need a smaller one for portability - they are very often used in the business environment, or the 13" iPad Pro if you need a bigger screen. For me though, the 10.9"/11" size is perfect.

Theoretically, the new Apple TV 4K with 128GB can run macOS. It has the A15 chip (A12Z ran macOS on the Mac mini dev kit) and 4GB RAM (assuming it’s the same SOC as the iPhone 13). And it’s only $149. Could technically be a Mac mini SE.

Budget iPad £500 in U.K. and they just added £100 to the iPad Air cost directly so anyone holding out for budget iPad should grab an air quick in EU or U.K. from Amazon

In the Philippine Apple Online Store, when the site refreshed with new products, the prices of existing products also refreshed. The 9th Gen iPad is now ₱21,990 from ₱19,990. I checked the US store, it is still $329.

I thought Davinci Resolve coming to iPad would be the big news of the day… everyone has been complaining about pro apps on the iPad …. Davinci announced and no mention of it 😂

in Australia the 11inch Pro was $1199, now is $1399 , 12.9inch Pro $1499, now $1899 , unbelievable price hikes

 TV is a great upgrade for me. I’m upgrading from the 2017 first gen  TV 4K. My reason is mainly to have a faster UI navigation. My current one chugs a little when opening apps and going back to the homescreen. The A12 never appealed to me, since the A12 in the second gen  TV was already a years old chip when it launched. The A15 feels like a proper upgrade and up to date for a 2022  product.

I really felt that. I currently have a laggy iPad 2018 128GB that I was planning on replacing with a new model, but €200 price increase is just impossibile for me at the moment. AND that’s for the 64GB model. The 256GB starts at like €800 or so, and that’s basically the price of and old 11inch iPad Pro with Face ID etc. I thought the whole point of the base iPad model was to be cheap…! :/

So if you have an Apple Pencil 1 and another USB-C iPad (like an M1 iPad Air or Pro), can you use the new dongle to use the Apple Pencil 1 with other USB-C iPads?

I like the fact that the new iPad Pros can shoot in ProRes and also transcode ProRes video much faster. It is cool but I don’t currently use it enough to justify upgrading from the M1 iPad Pro. The new Apple TV is tempting but not sure I need it. I agree 100% on the iPad 10. It is weird. They could have placed the magnetic inductor for Apple Pencil 2 on the top of the chassis, as that area no longer has the camera module. Not sure why they didn’t do that vs release and adaptor for Pencil 1.

I am glad that they are making an effort to keep their Apple pencil gen 1 from becoming eWaste and this adapter might be able to be used on previous gen tablets if you have spare USB-C to lightning cables which means a family could simply share an Apple Pencil between multiple base iPads and just leave the adapter permanently attached.

The most underrated news with this announcement is that DaVinci Resolve is coming to the iPad. That’s bigger news than the new iPads themselves lol

I have a 2018 iPad Pro and was waiting to see if this gen iPad was with to upgrade but I think the M1 iPad is the way to go at a discount

To be fair, the plain M1 doesn't actually have hardware ProRes encoding or decoding, it was only added on the other M1 variants and the M2, so this one is actually a justifiable hardware limitation for the iPads Photonic Engine, 4K cinematic mode and action mode? now that's just straight up software locking

Finally. I was waiting for these. This is gonna be my 1st Apple TV and will grab it on launch. The M2 12.9 inch iPad Pro will be a great upgrade from my 2018 11 inch iPad Pro.

The centered front camera is really useful for FaceTime (and other video calls)

The new iPads seem fine at first until you really look into it, which is really confusing. Although I’m perfectly aware any regular person looking for recommendations might get mixed up 😂 funny thing is I’m currently using a original iPad Pro w 1st gen pen but I’m hoping to just get a 2018 one next month; I’m a artist and been using iPads in general for years but anything beyond that seems pretty ridiculous for small incremental changes.👁👁

I bought an iPad Air 5 in late September with student discount. Glad I didn’t wait for this new iPad.

Enjoying my ipad mini 6 still, think its worth the extra 50 dlls for the apple pencil 2 support if nothing else. A15 neglible , laminted display, etc.

Thanks for the Udpate Drew, what a bummer. When Mac gets a side refresh, too I at least hope for a Mc Mini M2 which you can spec up a little and has thanks to active cooling system not the issue the M2 Air had. Would be good enough for me, but lets see. New IPad is sort of cool in regards of the Color’s but how do i transport the Apple Pencil and as you mentioned: Charging is not that nice. Hope though for an iPad mini with a key board for next year, that would be great.

The addition of usb c to the Siri remote is bigger news than people realize. This pretty much confirms that the iphone 14 will get usb c. The transition has begun! Wish it started with the new airpods pro.

IN THE UK. Certified refurbished iPad Air 4th gen is £70 cheaper with the same storage, same Soc (A14) whilst having a better screen, better Apple Pencil, better accessories. The only thing worse I think is the cameras but who used a camera extensively on an iPad?

In Thailand the 11 inch iPad Pro m1 used to cost 27000 baht, the new one costs 32900 baht, seems like outside the US they raised the price.

Yes iPhone also raised price in uk for 100gbp more this year, because of strong usd, most of the places in the world has price hike this year On the other hand, hkd prices did not change because it is peg with usd

My assumption with the Apple Pencil 1 having an adapter is that they didn’t want to create a whole new version just for this iPad. Having the adapter allows people that already have the Pencil 1 to upgrade to a 10th gen iPad and not pay $100 for a new pencil too, especially when their biggest buyer of this level of device are schools. It could also mean they have an over supply of Pencil 1’s still sitting around they want to move before being stuck with them and having no device to use them at all

Does the new Apple TV HDR 10+ support do anything for getting HDR KZread videos to actually display in HDR? I dislike having to use my Smart TV's KZread app for HDR.

Folio keyboard is better than the magic keyboard in my opinion. You can prop the iPad up at any angle you want where you want. I have the Logitech one for the iPad Pro 10.5 and there is no way I am going to a keyboard that is not folio because being able to disconnect the keyboard is huge for me and I love it.

So long as you always use it on a big desk. Magic Keyboard is more like laptop it’s more compact and can be used on your lap or smaller spaces

As I am writing this, the 9th gen iPad is $270 on Amazon. People should do that if they are actually looking for an affordable iPad. The only good thing about the 10th gen is that if you don't care about the Apple Pencil, then the 256gb costs the same as the 64gb Air, which I think storage matters much more here than an M1 in an iPad.

I’m honestly so happy the m2 iPad pros don’t have funky new backs because that means I can eventually replace an iPad Air 4 with an iPad Pro and use the same Magic Keyboard then turn the 4 into a dedicated HomeKit wall controller

If you buy a new 1st gen Apple Pencil, the Type C to Lightning adapter comes with it, and if you have a 1st gen Apple Pencil already, it's only $9 to continue being able to use it.

My two cents… iPad (10th generation): I really like it. The camera being landscape is excellent, and the colours options really pop. What tempts me most is the Magic Keyboard Folio. My biggest gripe with the existing Magic Keyboard is the lack of function keys - especially Escape! The folio design restores these, gives a bigger trackpad. The two part design means I can rip off the keyboard and still have a really slim kickstand for my iPad. It’s why I like Logitech’s Combo Touch products. Losing out on Apple Pencil (2nd generation) support is a blow, but I personally have zero interest in that product. I’m hoping Logitech come out with a USB-C version of their Logitech Crayon. I always found that easier to hold than both generations of Apple Pencil anyway. Apple TV 4K (3rd generation): I was holding off on buying the A12 model, and now I’m glad I did. I want USB-C on everything, so todays announcement makes me very happy. Double the storage for a lower price makes me happy. Will opt for the Ethernet model because I like having wired connections.

iPad Pro with cellular now has mmWave support also.

I am glad to see that they added 5G on the newest basic iPads so that it will be more future proof with connectivity than the previous LTE only version.

In Europe the prices has increased significantly. The iPad went from 379->579, 200 euros more! Insane!

They should have put the keyboard dock on the back and put the apple pencil 2 charging connection on the side opposite the horizontal camera.

Be careful. The lower end 64GB version without Ethernet does not support Thread. If you want a Matter hub, get the high end one with 128GB and Ethernet.

As a designer and illustrator I love the Apple Pencil hover feature! ...but it still isn't enough to convince me to upgrade from my OG iPad Pro 12.9 with 1st gen Pencil 🤣... the first gen still works very well. What would convince me to update is if the iPad would get terminal access for my developer work.

@@TheStopwatchGod yeah I’m lowkey in a similar situation with mine, so hopefully next month I update mine! 🤍honestly you don’t have to buy the newest one, the 2018 one is perfectly fine :) either refurbished (basically new) or in good condition is fine, you still get Face ID, a still fast enough chip and 2nd gen apple pen if u ever decide, ofc it all depends on your budget and what you’re use case is. You’re not really missing too much from anything past that If I’m being real ^^

If you need ssh for remote terminal work, there are third party apps that do that. Or, I have Code-Server on my development server, and I can install it as a web app. If you want terminal to do things on the actual iPad, then yes, that is a bit of a problem.

I did get an iPad today. Picked up an 2018 version iPad Pro w/256GB + cellular for $430.

10:15 drew, is that potentially a sign for the remaining lightning products switching over to type c? In my opinion, this 10th get iPad is a sorta lab rat (for the landscape orientated FaceTime camera placement). I have a slight hunch that apple will eventually work out a way to have the apple pencil 2 charging system and FaceTime camera coexist on the same side down the road. I might be too optimistic (probably am considering it's apple) here, but one can dream.

The new iPad was made for me, I have never used a pencil and never will so I don’t are which generation it uses. I bought a magic keyboard (for my iPad Air) but never used it so I sold it. If I ever get another keyboard I would probably want the new one that you can use as a folio case.the only part that would keep me from selling my air and buying the 10th gen is that it doesn’t have a laminated display but I’m telling you the camera in portrait orientation is really making me think about selling my 4th gen. Air and then buy the 10th generation iPad and folio keyboard and live with the unlamented display . Everything else is perfect for me and my needs.I’m going to start out with using my wife’s 8th generation iPad for a week to see if I can live with it.

Davinci resolve is coming to iPadOsS. It’s the full desktop version. So Final Cut missing is a mute point for many.

If you buy a new Apple Pencil 1 you get a lightning to usb c adapter included. Still a stupid idea but at least they included the adapter

Can someone please say something about how app tv still won't let you use spatial audio when using 2 AirPods! Spatial audio is so good, but can only be experienced by one person at a time.

If they simply put a usb-c male connector instead of a female connector on the adapter then you could charge the Apple Pencil the way it charges on lightning iPads

As a DaVinci Resolve editor, I can now use an iPad as my main computer. I'm seriously considering replacing my laptop with an m1 or my iPad pro.

I see people being surprised why Apple is not increasing prices for their products in the US, or even lowering for Apple TV. Here is a possible explanation: Remember that the USD became stronger in comparison to nearly all currencies. So Apple’s cost for their product components should be lower than before if they buy those in foreign currencies. Ofcourse increases in components prices is likely even in those foreign currencies, but even then, Apple is still likely paying the same or less for most of their components due to the strong USD (+15/20%). That’s how they keep the prices the same in USD. All EU and UK price increases are just linked to the currency changes.

I have to hold out I really want 5g but I want mini led on the 11 inch iPad Pro. Fingers crossed for next year.

I already upgraded Apple TV recently, so I was about to be disappointed with my timing. But mine is working fine, I like the remote, and I have an Ethernet port which is great to take the load off my Wi-Fi. So I’m good for a long time. Still, if I’d just known a new one was coming…

Mean the new high end Apple TV is cheaper then the old base Apple TV. I’m pissed I paid $190ish for 64gb one last year only for a 128gb one with better chip and support for my tv to be $150.

Unfortunately the lower tier tv does not have thread support

Look out for iPad Air 4 deals for around 400 and get a Logitech keyboard/trackpad combo. Cheaper and superior to the iPad 10+magic folio unless you care about center stage. The price point should have been 379-399 and probably a worse screen with Apple Pencil 2 support and Magic Keyboard compatibility. Expected this to happen so glad to have gotten the air 4 instead.

Drew, on apple refurbished store 11” iPad Pro (2018) is $539 vs IPad Air 4 $599 - both 256 gb version I would go for 11 iPad Pro 2018 (256 gb) in a heartbeat over new 10th generation iPad. ($539 is would be worth more the $449 in my opinion)

Honestly you dont need to charge your Apple pencil very often, I even know some people who use the adapter for cable charging the pencil anyways. However I never used it and charging it from the iPad is very practical. This new adapter is so tiny you will loose it instantly and then a problem appears :/ Not a great option imho

The camera placement (or rather the lack of it) on the new pros is HILARIOUS

Apple only does a complete re-design on only one iPad at a time. 2018 was the start of the cycle with the iPad Pro redesign. Next came the iPad Air redesign. The next year had the iPad mini redesign. This year is the iPad base model redesign. Next year, expect an iPad Pro redesign and for the cycle to start all over again.

I think the reason theres no lamination is because these ipads are sold to schools so the ipads being non laminated means if the glass get cracked they only have to replace the glass an not the entire screen

When i saw the video from apple i was disappointing that i had got the ipad 9... that's until i saw the price... now i am extremely happy that i got the ipad 9 on sale 4 months ago... also about pricing u have to understand how the price goes way up in Europe, the ipad 9 release price was 460-480 euro on sale 345-350, and the ipad mini 2021 that have the same price with the new ipad starting at 700 euro. str8 up bs pricing due to tax. but we cant rly blame apple can we ? the tab s6 lite had the same price with the ipad 9 for half the performance .... so its make sense for apple to increase the price due to lack of competition in this category.

The answer to can M1 iPad Pro do ProRes, actually no, M1 is based on A14, your A15 supports it because it was the first chip to add native ProRes encoders, as announced in WWDC, M2 which is based on A15, was the first Mac chip to add native ProRes encoders.

What’s the point in squaring off the basic iPad if you can’t use Apple Pencil 2 and the 1 is lighting also the basic iPad should be Lightning but I understand why they did that and some people like the home button
