A little thing I learned while doing pepakura Halo armor is that Elmer's "glue gel" and glue stick are some of the best things for papercraft. The working time of superglue is too fast and your fingers will end up shredded by the end, Elmer's standard glue is too runny and slow. Glue stick is pretty good but the only problem I have is with adhesion, it's not quite sticky enough. Glue gel has been my favorite thing to use so far because it's thicker than normal Elmer's glue, seems to have a slightly shorter working time, and sticks pretty good. Also you can get the sparkly kind, which is just inherently more fun to use.

Back when I did pokemon papercraft, I swore by glue sticks. I would use a toothpick to scrape a little glue off and spread it where I needed it. It made for great control of where it was placed.

Hopefully it does not break by scrambling this cube in regular intensity during the speed solving of that cube. However this cage cube looks fantastic.

The paper in the mechanism could be the same, but if you made all of the cubies using something like printer paper, you could lower the weight just a little more. I'm not sure if it would then potentially crush under the weight of someone's fingers though.
