    Awesome content as normal Darrell, and great to see the Loop Tasks being expanded into a more broader Kanban / Board View! 😀

    Thanks Scott. I was surprised to see this option. I think there is more to come. Hopefully we will see a component that shares just one card from an existing Kanban board or Planner plan.

    Good insight. I was hoping you'd talk on the actual Kanban Board component because I don't see its stuff linking to Planner. I'm starting to pick up on the trouble you may have trying to treat buckets like kanban stages. You can drag from one to another, but do you really move stuff from left to right on all your buckets? From Technical to Design? Plus these items are tasks, not projects. I've also discovered that from Planner you have more control over a task's state. Instead of done or not, it is not started, in progress, and completed. Pretty similar to a Kanban To do, In Progress, and Done.

    Hi, can fields displayed on a Kanban board tile be changed? So that it's not limited to the title, owner, and date fields, but includes others visible only in the details.

    I tried giving loop a serious try but I did not see the real value of it. It's just another tool that overlaps with everything else

    There are deliberate overlaps. Loop components by design are intended to be used within other apps and shared across multiple surfaces. It’s true that there are many note taking, list making, task coordinating options in M365. Loop is a place that can bring them all together using the components and workspaces. The Loop style of working isn’t for everyone. But it could be.

    If you cant see the planner Task: Create a new Task Board, not an kanban board. :) The Taskboard can be switched to a kanban view

    Wow... this really blurs the line between Loop and Planner. When MS announced "roster plans", I guess this is what they planned (no pun intended) for them. After doing a little testing myself, it seems like when you use the actual "kanban" component, it *does not* sync with Planner/other task apps. But, if you use the "tasks" component, it does. I can't imagine that's how Microsoft designed these to work. "Here are these two things that do practically the same thing, but one of them ALSO syncs to this other location/app and the other does not?" I see a lot of people getting confused by this.

  • @DarrellaaS

    @DarrellaaS

    You’re right. It only syncs with Planner when you begin with a Task list. You can also make a Kanban board view of a table by adding one label column. But that doesn’t sync with Planner. I see Kanban board more like a view. We can add more custom columns than we have in Planner. So that would prevent syncing. Remember, Loop Workspaces are available to Microsoft accounts too. They don’t have Planner and will find a Kanban component useful.

  • @jozonas

    I think that’s exactly how Microsoft design it to work. They never finish a product. They always leave 20% unfinished. Like the kanban board out.

  • @DarrellaaS

    @DarrellaaS

    @@jozonas or maybe there is a good reason for using the Kanban board component without syncing to Planner. Like when Planner is not available to free Microsoft accounts using the Loop app.

    Keep using ADO for your advanced needs. Microsoft had planned for an ADO component. It would sync a limited number of items from an issues list into a workspace page. But that component must be on the backlog.

    Hi Darrell, do you recommend any solution that enables to aggregate all tasks created in different meeting loop notes for instance in a single (master) planner? Look at it from a Design manager perspective who wants to keep track of all assigned tasks in one master tracker.

  • @kld_rei

    @kld_rei

    YES! I have been trying to figure out how to aggregate all tasks into one place. I just started using the Loop function multiple recurring Teams meetings and I like the Follow Up Tasks function in Loop/Teams. However, now I have multiple Loop pages that were automatically created for each meeting - how do I consolidate all those tasks into one Loop page or Planner board?? I have one meeting series that recurs weekly so I have 8 Loop pages now, since we've had 8 meetings. Each page has different follow up tasks that I documented during each meeting - how do I get these all on one board or page?!

  • @unsolveddilemnas

    @@kld_rei I've seen a workaround shared somewhere in the comments. You can open the loop tasks in Planner and copy the tasks you want to another Planner where you want to aggregate tasks. This however will move tasks from the original loop and you would have control only from the new location.

    Hi Nic. The Loop page I used was in a Loop Workspace. I don’t think it’s supported yet in Loop components that are stored in OneDrive. The Task list component creates its own Planner plan. It doesn’t use a group. Just a list of users who have access. Plans connected to Loop pages appear in the Planner app with a Loop logo. You will see it about halfway through this video. The Tasks list will also have a button to open the tasks in either Planner or To Do.

    thanks for the speedy reply and until we can link it to existing plans (might be when Planner gets a makeover soon) I wont try to get traction on loop just yet. I can see tremendous potential when its fully integrated to Teams/M365 groups

  • @JacobAnawalt

    This seems to be another key difference. If you create a Plan in Planner, you can assign it to or it creates a 365 group, while you can create Loop Workspaces that aren't necessarily tied to a 365 group. You can ad-hoc tasks all over the place, from meeting notes to Loop to Planner and they show up in Tasks and elsewhere. They seem to be the ultimate sharable item with different lifespans depending on where they were created in and later moved to.

    I want to use Loop for managing personal tasks and goals. Is there a way to create private plans and auto-assign tasks to self?

  • @DarrellaaS

    @DarrellaaS

    5 ай бұрын

    Create a Loop Workspace for yourself. Whenever you add a Task list and assign a task to yourself, it will create a plan. It can remain private if you don’t invite anyone else to the Workspace. Today, we can’t auto-assign tasks to ourselves in a Task list.

    If you start by creating a Kanban board component, it will not create a Planner plan to sync with. If you start with a Task list component, it will create a Planner plan to sync with.

    If you start tasks in Loop does it create a new plan in planner? If so, can you tidy up and make those tasks part of an existing plan?

  • @DarrellaaS

    Yes. Tasks in Loop create a Planner plan. You could move the tasks to another plan. But you will not see them stay in sync with the task list in the Loop. Moving the task breaks the link to the original plan.

  • @DarrellaaS

    I made the same assumption, that Loop might leverage Microsoft Lists for their tables. But that would only be true of Tables created in Loop Workspace pages or Loop components in Teams channels. I believe that Loop tables are their own creation, probably working with the Fluid framework rather than SharePoint Lists.

    Its pretty janky right now. Persistent meetings will carry the tasks from the loop if you started it from the SERIES. If you do them in a note by note basis, they create a new planner each meeting. Should you mess up...there is no way to cut and paste the original task list back into the notes and have it sync...it will create another planner. You can't paste into the notes as a loop component, either.
