Smooth Ride, Disappointing Features: A Budget-Friendly Santa Fe Hybrid Review The Santa Fe Hybrid offers a comfortable ride, but be warned: lower trims (SE/SEL) lack features you might expect. Reviews raving about all the bells and whistles likely focused on the top-of-the-line Calligraphy edition. Here's what surprised me most about the budget-friendly trims: Storage Woes: Finding decent-sized compartments for everyday items proved a challenge. The glove compartment is tiny, barely fitting a single hand. Forget a dedicated sunglass holder - this Santa Fe lacks even basic conveniences my older car had! Missing Conveniences: The passenger seat lacks power adjustments, which some might find inconvenient. No sunroof or panoramic roof for that open-air feel in this trim level. The cargo light is dim, making nighttime trunk access a struggle. Shockingly, even basic floor mats are missing. Parking Woes with the Back Door: This might be a dealbreaker for some city dwellers. Unlike most SUVs with hatchbacks, the Santa Fe's back door hinges at the top. Great for maximizing headroom when using the cargo area as a makeshift seat, but terrible for tight parking situations. This upward-opening design requires significant vertical space to fully access the cargo area. Park too close behind another car, and forget about easily opening the back door. Adding to the frustration, there's no separate back window to access the cargo area from the outside. This means you can't reach in to grab smaller packages or forgotten items without fully opening the entire door. Lessons Learned: Research every aspect of your chosen Santa Fe trim level before buying. Don't assume "standard" features are included on all trims. Consider aftermarket accessories like cargo organizers, floor mats, and a sunglass holder to enhance functionality. Final Thoughts: The SE/SEL Santa Fe Hybrid offers a good value, but be aware of the missing conveniences compared to higher trims or other vehicles. This review aims to help future buyers avoid the surprises I encountered.

Thanks for your comment and for watching. Although SE/SEL models are not available in Australia and trim levels do vary between the US and Australia even on base models. Back door design will definitely need consideration when reverse parking. Although with some of your other criticisms, it sounds like you want lots of mid and top spec features to be standard in the base model cars (panoramic roof, electric passenger seat etc) so my question to you, would you be willing to pay more for a base model car if it included these things?
