I love the idea to have a child assigned to make lunch each day! Such a good skill to practice 🙂

I do a binder with all the sheets at the beginning of the year in page protectors by week. If we go somewhere I don’t want to have to take a dozen workbooks. They have a folder in front that holds their current week’s work. So they grab that and some pencils and can go anywhere. I have added chore checklists as I have gotten the “What do I have to do to get to [X]?” That way there is no guesswork.

Great job! Going into year 14 of homeschooling in our home, and just graduated our eldest. You remind me of a younger version of myself. Organization pays off in so many ways! Thank you for sharing what you're doing, you're helping so many families realize it is doable! 👏

I did something similar for my kids last year and we really liked them. I like your idea of a weekly family schedule and assigning kids lunch duty once a week. Last year I had our scripture study readings laid out and a goal sheet for them to make and track personal goals. Our church laid out a great youth program so they each work on a spiritual, physical, mental and social goal.

Binders for each of the kids and one for myself was something I learned from you very early on and am so grateful for. It makes such a difference in being able to keep everyone, especially myself, organized all year long.

Your videos, encouragement and inspiration for homeschooling have been instrumental for my courage and planning for homeschooling for the first time this year. We have very similar personalities and styles of thinking and doing things. I'm very grateful for all these videos you've put together. I like planning and being organized too and because of you, I feel ready and equipped to do this thing now. Thank you for all of your help. 🙏 💚

Thank you for this. I just started binders this year for my kids and myself. I’d like to start preparing to be better organized in our school years. My daughters going into 6th and my son 3rd grade. With our recent move I got my answer about homeschooling all the way through high school. So I’d like to prepare now to be organized when my daughter gets to that age. Can you make a video about how to do double credits? I’m kind of confused about those.

How do you handle “catching up” if someone is sick or a day just doesn’t go well and you get off track? Or you know, life happens. How do you handle the subjects you do together if one child is sick? Do you keep going and catch them up later or do you wait till they are back? And how do you handle doctor’s appointments etc. so they don’t interrupt the school day too much? Thanks! Love your videos! Getting lots of great ideas!

  • @GraceandGrit

It really just depends on the situation. I generally allow sick child to rest, while the rest of us continue. I don’t worry about catching up unless it’s a prolonged time of unexpected illness then I’ll formulate a plan.

We’ve done BJU science for the past few years and I’ve found it hard for them to double up. Update on us how it goes for Kylee. I am curious because my kids really do need to double up too but I found that BJU has a very critical thinking approach so they are doing good with one lesson and studying for he quizzes and tests…..or do your kids not take those? I am only asking because I would like to make it work too 😉 Either way we’ll be sticking to it. My daughter took BJU grade 7 life science with Mrs. Gillenwater and it completely changed her from hating science to it being her favorite 🥰

Do you keep much of their work once the year is over? I'm a mom of one and homeschooling for 4 years and I seem to keep all of the work we have done. Do you just pick a few things to save or how do you "clean out" the previous year? An odd question, but that's a struggle for me!

I have one thick 2.5 inch binder per kid for keepsakes and if more things need to go in after it’s full, we have to pick what gets recycled! It’s a physical limit to how much we keep.
