This is great! I was wondering if you give them any suggestions of what they can make....so they're not all making mac n cheese for each other for a whole week LOL! Also, do you give them a time limit in the morning when they do chores? And if they don't finish in time, what consequence do you give them? I'm super curious, b/c I've found it so hard to motivate my kids to do chores (they complain every time) but I know it's an important thing to do. Thanks for all your time in making these awesome videos! :)

Love it! This is the first year we have to submit our declaration of intent to homeschool (in WA state you don't have to do so until they are 8 years old), and you've inspired me to follow the quarter system too. It seems so much more manageable and way less overwhelming than trying to plan out the whole year lol! Up until now our homeschooling journey has been very informal but the planner in me is excited for the change lol! I love that the kids have a day to make lunches and how you emphasize the importance of learning life skills. Curious how you teach them about money management and the work-money connection? We use a clipboard and commission system for our kids. Clipboard chores are the ones they're responsible for every day just because they are a member of our family. As they get older I definitely want to model your system of a new chore each day. Then they have commission chores that they can choose to do once their clipboard chores are done. If they do the work, they earn the money and if they don't, then they don't get paid on payday (Sunday). It has been a great way to teach the work-money connection and then the value of saving as well :) Also that if they want to buy something, they need to save up for it because debt isn't an option :)

I think I need to pull back my scheduling a little bit and allow the breaks to come as needed. I have had some extra military trainings come up that fall right in the middle of the school year and I have to take time off to take my kids out of state to family in order for my husband to be able to keep working while I’m away and then more time to pick them up afterwards. It all equals out to almost 3 weeks off, each time. It worries me that I will be schooling farther into summer than I want

I have such a problem with doing everything because I love to keep a super clean and tidy home and I work really hard with 5 kids, the oldest being 6- that I would get frustrated asking them to help me that I would end up doing it anyway. I’ve been learning to loosen up and not prioritize the home over the kids because I turn around and it’s messy in 5 minutes anyway and they could’ve been using that to learn and get better. And I’m thankful to be blessed with kids who actually enjoy helping instead of complaining about chores. I’m definitely still learning!

Im wondering how you plan out lessons, I know TGTB lends itself well as open and go, but when you do your seasonal teatimes, and when you use different curriculum for your older kiddos, how do you lesson plan those? Do you use a separate planner, or write it out for each child?

4th year homeschool mom. My kids are still little, so instead of a binder I have a folder for every day we school. We do a 4 day homeschool week. For each folder, I put their lessons they have for the day; any workbook pages, worksheets, etc..I have a laminated schedule for each kiddo. They can cross out the subject they complete so they can see what they’ve done and how much more they need to do. I also have a folder for each kiddo for their morning basket/group subject. They seem to like it and right now it works for them.

One possible option is to do the 4 day week for just one month a year, its not hard, especially if you are on a sabbath schedule. That's what we do. You can pick the month you need, or to suit your needs, it can be a tradition. It only equals a 1 week or 5 day break from school, but it feels huge, especially if you usually have a hectic friday. I used to be a youth director, i know about busy fridays. You could choose Monday, or Wednesday, whatever works for you. The beauty of homeschool is being able to make the schedule work.

I switched to a Plum Paper Planner this year, and love it! It is very similar to EC, but even more customizable. You can choose not only the layout, but add all sorts of different pages either in a tabbed section or spread throughout the months. They have things like fitness, meal planning, blank pages, note pages, etc. They even have a homeschool add on. I’d say EC probably has a few more “cute” cover choices, but Plum Paper does have a lot to choose from and I’ve found some I really like. It’s definitely worth a look!

I’m just in the midst of planning out this coming school year (we don’t start until September), so this was timely! I may have missed you talking about it, but why did you decide to move your workout back to the afternoon after doing it first thing in the morning last school year? I still find it easiest to do first thing, but I so wish I could find the time to do it midday! 😊

Some things we flew through. Reading, for example.other things, we did not finish, such as history and social studies, but that's ok because we took extra time with some of the heavier units.

I have done this with lunches as well with my kids but honestly I'm in kind of a rut. Would be interested in the kinds of lunches your kids are making.

I also have an Erin Condren planner and I got a survey recently from them. One of the questions asked about their different collaborations etc. One of the questions asked how they made you feel about the company and why. It seems like they want to hear feedback about these things. I don’t think in the end it will matter because I think enough people want to see these various virtue signaling products, but I answered honestly.

Im curious what all lil bits of things YOU do during day. Do you also do chores in morning? Do you take coffee break, etc?

I love that you're having your kids make lunch and serve it to their siblings and clean up after them, that's such an act of service and we are called to be servants as Jesus was.

I am wondering if we are going to need to do 5 day school week now as well, having an incoming 8th grader! It is SUCH a different season with older kiddos for sure! Same chores the whole school year?! That's an awesome idea! We usually swap them out weekly but year long chores would make my life easier! 😂

Where did you get your lamps behind your bed? They're super cute! Also, excited to watch you guys in another homeschool year! We are starting our 6th year soon!

Thanks for sharing this, I found it so helpful! Do you have any advice as far as chores go? I’m new at implementing them and my 5 kids range from 3 months to 11. We do daily things like make beds and clean rooms but I hate to say I’ve never implemented chores like this but I want to. Would you just start with one for each child? I know they will fight me on this and it will be stressful at first. I just don’t know how to go about starting a new system.

I am homeschooling a 4th & 6th grader this coming year (starting Aug 30) and have been homeschooling them since they were in PreK--they've never been to public school. I also have a 2 year old running around! You've got me curious to know what the Condrin planner company has been endorsing HAHA! We basically do school 4 days a week with only fun things/specials on Fridays so we do music, art, cooking, health etc.

Grace, I love the idea to do fun stuff on Friday! We do 4 days, with Friday as a light/catch up day. But I like adding the extra things on that day. Thanks for the idea

I'm curious as to what lunches your kids will make. I feel like mine are stuck in a rut. They will have leftovers, grilled cheese, deli sandwiches, chicken nuggets, pizza, soup, or Mac n Cheese. As I type that out yes I realize it's not the healthiest.
