    The best vibes at DDD. One of my favorite parts was just everyone cheering each other on and celebrating each other’s finds. That and it’s practically a machine dig with Chad having a giant excavator on site to clear the overburden everyday so you start fresh. I’ve spent many days at other mines just clearing material from previous miners to get into good dirt or ledge.

    DDD is the best. I had booked my dig way in advance for my birthday and it just so happen to work out it was when you visited! I had the best time digging alongside Bryan and the crew. It was like a Herkimer time machine for me. I’ve heard story’s from older miners about how dirt digging used to be like this in certain locations. Pulling out palmers by the bucket full. First time I experienced it myself. Definitely a bucket list dig experience.

    @@silvergirl7810 I paid $250 for 4hrs on two occasions this year. My second trip I pulled out a 2 pound perfect Crystal that’s worth more alone then what I spent on the two trips. I’ll never sell it though. I enjoyed it so much I tipped the owner in Bison steaks. So the entry may be a lot to some, but you can’t compare DDD to the mines charging $10-20 entry it’s not even the same stratosphere, but everything is relative. I’d also take 4hrs at DDD over two days at the $100 entry mines. This is my hobby and passion. Some people like to golf and wouldn’t hesitate to spend $150 in a day doing that. So I say life’s short do what you love and make memories it’s worth every penny.

    @@b9brutality Dozens of large golf ball or larger and several hundred smaller ones. My largest were over 2 pounds. For the me biggest attraction at this particular location is that you are dirt digging. Usually with Herkimers unless your checking tailing piles you need to move lots ledge and hammer and chisel your way into pockets. I’ve spent several days working 8hrs a day very hard labor to hit a pocket containing smaller gemmy crystals. So it’s a dream to take a Geo pick and work the dirt and watch the crystals just expose themselves.

    Wow!! This spot is new to me and seems great!! I went to their site..seems a little pricey tho...not sure why?? In a 4 hour dig what would the value of these herks be? Obviously it's for a supervised rock hounding experience, and I fully understand why the service is worth it. BUT, if my crew of 4 houndin' adults want to patronize this establishment $1,000 for 4 hours is totally unrealistic. We are experienced amateurs hounding for about 10yrs in the NJ/NY/PA area and some of the pay sites are totally worth the cost of admission...$250 a person just seems like a tourist trap. NO DISRESPECT INTENDED. I'm sure the owners know what they have and their prices are what they should be, just unattainable for a lot of people. UNLESS there is a reason why IT ISNT overpriced?!?!? Would love some more inside info/opinion about this.🍻💎💎💎

  • @TheCrystalCollector

    @TheCrystalCollector

    I understand where you’re coming from and actually they are having to go up on their price next year because for the price they have said people are getting way way more than they’re paying for like 10 times the amount sometimes, the site is probably the best site I’ve seen for getting tons of herks out. He may even not open up next year because of the unbalancing and what people paying what they take out. If this site in four hours you want to find more herks you find all year going to other places if you went every day . It’s kind of a wild place. I found three to $4000 worth of herks in just that short amount of time. So I think at this point the owners, not sure what to do, he’s going to focus on the boxes right now that you seen in the end.

    Price out machine digs at other Herkimer mines and $250 is a giveaway. (Many of those machine digs also don’t guarantee anything or they cap you at the amount found) You’re practically getting a machine dig here with Chad having a large excavator on site to clear the overburden and piles from past miners. So you’re not wasting anytime here you get right into it and Chad makes sure you leave happy.
