New Google AI Can Have Real Life Conversations With Strangers
Ғылым және технология
At its 2018 I/O developer conference, Google showed off some updates coming to Google Home and Assistant. One feature - Google Duplex - can make phone calls for you and talk to the person on the other end to schedule appointments and make reservations. Google says the feature will roll out as an experiment over the coming weeks.

It probably depends on what the call is for, like the hair salon, the person at the salon taking the appointments actually could've been an AI and neither one would know any different, some businesses are starting to use really smart AI that understands things so clear they even know if you give them a compliment, like if you say "smart computer" as a side phrase, the AI will say "Thank you" Then it will guide the conversation back to the business at hand, yeah it can be surprising to people talking to the AI.

Crazy. I reacted to this. It'll go live in a few days. I think it could come in handy for entrepeneurs and celebrities.
Plot twist: restaurant also uses the google a. i.
My suggestion is when this thing will officially launch, mobile devices should also be able to show the user(real person attending the calling) whether it is called by an AI or an actual human. Just to make things clear and transparent.

My M8 Could you imagine if call center automated systems acted like this? No more "press 1 for _____" or "say Ok to continue." Instead you can have a natural conversation with the automated system to actually get what you really want done. This is where I see the technology in Google duplex going, not making haircut appointments for you. What do you guys think?
@PerrinPansy

Yeah. This is what i had expected from the ai. Something like "this is google duplez or whatever" and then continue, BUT i can see how that could get annoying having a little intro at the beginning of each call.

Google want people to get depended on their technology, to the point where you can't do things on your own without any google.
Joke's on Google. The "real person" is a robot too. And no one's the wiser...
When will it be available
Wait a minute, Did Google just pass the Turing test?

@dbrooke3629

bluesailormercury that's not the point. The test is whether people can tell the difference between a robot or a human based on their conversation. This is better than a simple online text chat because it can now mimic tone and understand context. Definitely passed the turing test.

I bet that if they wanted to they could make Google assistant way more realistic but that would freak a lot of people out
That is definitely impressive. If I had overheard these calls without knowing one of the participants was an AI, I definitely would have believed that both parties were live people.
Zucc needs this asap.

@OriginalUnknown2

+Jacek Stankiewicz based on your name, I wouldn't judge you for not knowing the actual definition of what anti social means in english, but because you just had to call the guy an idiot, so I will.... Anti social behaviour means a sort of behaviour that is not socially acceptable, i.e.: not normal (in the sense that it is not civilized, not that its simply abnormal). So a person who ran around naked on the streets is anti social... a person who isn't comfortable with interacting with other people is not an anti social person, they're just a person with weak social skills and/or who is uncomfortable interacting with others........ idiot.

F. Zero Happiness isn't the same for everybody. Some people like interacting with people, while others don't. In the end, what makes us happy is usually defined by us, not what other people perceive as happiness. Besides, he might not hate interaction, just phone calls.

I am good at human interaction, but I don't like it. I have spent years almost completely alone, and i LOVE it. Happiness is different for all of us, even a s.c. "social species" can have variables like me.

Is the voice computer generated or pre-recorded? Like some of the Cortana's voice lines?

I would laugh my arse off, if they were just both actual people and they just called one of them google assistant 😂
I'm waiting for the Google Assistant "angry Chinese lady" voice. Example: User: "Hey google what's the weather?" Google Assistant: (face slap) "WHY YOU NO HAVE JOB!"
I've always hated talking on the phone, so I can barely wait till I can finally use this!
If siri ever did this it would be breaking news everybody would be amazed and people would say crapple is wayy to good

No, it's just the same like having a real assistance.
Here's a better idea Google: Be able to communicate with your home speaker and your phone. So if someone is at home, and you are out our at work, you could use it as two way intercom and talk to one another. Many times my partner will be at home and forgot to turn his phone off silent when he gets home, meanwhile I'm at work or on the bus beating my head in trying to will him to pick up the phone. All I want to do is for my voice to come out of that speaker remotely. My security cam has two way audio where I can connect through the app and talk through it to home. I just want to be able to use Google home for that. And you know, for Google home to do basic web searches.
Imagine it calling other google ai’s in the background and no one would know until something happened
Guess what...soon they ll be asking for our clothes,boots and motorcycles

Sorry, I do not know where else to ask. Is Google Assistant officially available on Lollipop for English speakers and others? I heard it had to become available, but everywhere it says 6.0+ I know it can be run on a 5.0+ workaround, but I'm interested in the official way. Is Google Lens also available?
