Be careful - the batteries are getting old and they don't make them anymore - Duracell have a line as do some others but they have been in their warehouse for years - I sold mine for the new GFX100II which interestingly takes the same batteries as the XT-5 - although I do not have that camera - the new GFX100II does not feel like the original - I think the only difference is the viewfinder - it might be brighter or more res but I have not noticed - if it wasn't for the battery situation I would have kept it - as a Pro I can't risk dodgy didgy batts!!

Hi, I can confirm both : price of the first generation (GFX 100, not 100 S) is really dropped now to a very low level. I bought mine absolutely new, never used, from a shop on eBay for 4500 € (with VAT, so I payed 3700 € as I'm able to recover the VAT). And the product is gorgeous ! (I was a Sony shooter for the last 10 years, with the flagship cameras and lenses of the brand). I think that I never will look back ! The second point is battery life. I confirm that the batteries are really not great (only 1250 mAh, versus 2200 mAh in this generation), but of course we have two in the body so as soon as one goes empty it's just easy to refill during the rest of the shooting, while the second one can relay ! Working with these cameras is on an another level ! (but surely not made for sport or street)

Thanks Gordon. A comparison with the 100s would be interesting. I'm glad it's the same size and shape, means no need to buy new L brackets and such if upgrading and it would help keep the cost down. Looks like they've improved in areas that needed it. I find the 100s viewfinder lacking, sometimes difficult to see exactly what's in focus compared to a good optical viewfinder or EVF so the EVF is a big deal on the v2, would reduce need to switch to focus peaking at times. I shoot landscapes and find autofocus just fine on the 100s but faster and more reliable auto focus would expand the usefulness into other types of photography, making a better all round camera, reducing the need for a second system like Canon/Sony/Nikon. If I was to wish for more, it would be extra buttons to put more customisable controls at the fingertips and perhaps an 8 shot pixel shift mode for some static studio work I do (16 images is a lot of data and 4 don't quite seem enough). As for image quality, I'd like to know if it really does improve at all towards the edges compared to the old model (as per their marketing) and in which situations. I'd also be curious how the EVF compares with the 100s in low light.

A camera I would love to have for landscape photos. Even love the 4:3 ratio as the mFT cameras have, and this are my main system, but I also have some nice older DSLR from Nikon and Canon for my T&S lenses. The GFX system will suit me well, and some older lenses will cover the bigger GFX sensor and do it well, I have seen those on the tube. Maybe the main reason to use the GFX is the dynamic range. Love to work in dark environments. A great tool besides the other ones.

As always, an excellent and comprehensive review Gordon. I wonder what you think of the new base ISO of 80 (was 100 on the previous 100s model)? "Smoke and mirrors" seems to be a common phrase being thrown about in internet chat. What is your take? As a current owner of the original GFX 50s and the 100s, I'm glad to see this upgrade to the latter. Although not ground breaking, the updates are enough for me to upgrade and I will be selling my 100s to trade up. For me, the improvements to the viewfinder, processor (and assumed speed boost to auto-focus and shot-to-shot performance), and IBIS, are enough of a difference. I've been very happy with the 100s, but look forward to this next iteration of a wonderful camera that I enjoy shooting. As with my 50s (purchased new in 2018), I'm hoping to keep this next 100s for a while, but who knows what the next upgrade temptation will bring in a couple of years...150MP and global shutter for under $5K? :^)

Newer to the Fuji GFX system..so what exactly is the "S" line compared to the regular "100" and now the old "R" bodies in terms of overall usage..and what they are meant for? like for some other brands i.e Sony "S" is their "video" focused line and "R" is their stills and high resolution line the 9 is their sports focused camera..etc etc...just curious because its the same "megapixels" and processor..etc subtle differences..like what is the point of getting one over the other?..the differences does not seem substantial like other brands have "specific" lines and purposes....besides the price point and labeled the 100 as the "flagship" as a consumer why would I get or pick one over the other?..thanks..

The problem is they’re not really photography designed, but I do both. At this point I’m using Z9/8 and R5C plus various Red cinema. Now, I’m constrained on new research so I can’t do much work except fund projects I planned to do years ago myself. I’m going to just occasionally going to make appearances on set. Lack of battery grip what makes uncomfortable to shoot vertical photos, and lack of top buttons. As far as I use Canon and Fuji same time, I would say it's not a problem for Canon, bur Fuji is pretty bad with all automatics that I really need buttons to correct settings a lot (like L/R eye or photometring, things you never need on Canon)

Thank you for the review. Autofocus is worth an upgrade in the GFX 100s II if it's close to the GFX 100 II (if money is not the factor). It means you'll get more things in focus (animals and people). I couldn't get a standing bison's eye in focus with the 100s unless I manually focused, but with the GFX 100 II, I was able to get more focus shots. So, I expect the 100s II to be the same. But still, I will have to skip this one (fingers crossed - GAS) and wait for the GFX 100s III to see substantial improvements to upgrade my trusty 100s.

The gotcha is the lens pricing, which is still great value but can double or even treble the investment to get a range from wide angle to zoom. That said, when I was shooting with the original 50 and 50R all I needed was the 30mm and 45-100mm and I was more than covered given the incredible crop-ability which has now doubled.

I really don't think people are going to use the GFX cameras much for video. They're not built for. They're big and bulky and heavy and I'll keep saying this till somebody bloody listens. I haven't seen anyone shooting video on a GFX except for a few Nuff you think they can you just not going to because it's big and heavy and bulky you're going to choose an XH camera or a small camera from Sony or DJI to shoot video okay that out of the way? I think from a photography perspective this is a massive leap forward for Fujfilm and I'm definitely interested in this camera for photogr I just don't think people understand how good the image quality is and even KZread clips like this which are great. Don't show the true nature of how good the images are out of a GFX camera. If you haven't seen any images from a GFX camera go onto some of the reviews of the previous cameras and you can download raw images from many of the KZreadrs and have a play with a raw image from a GFX camera and your jaw will hit the floor quicker than you believe. My sentiments exactly but for $2500 less, I'm willing to slow my ass down.

At the moment best value for 102mpix gives GFX100s with price much lower than this one.

expensive body very expensive lenses, you're in Leica range of prices and depreciation of a Leica is way less than the depreciation of a Fuji. Best bargain, a used 100s v1

Can't wait until they make a NEW camera and stop rehashing the same old garbage. The Hasseblad X2D still has much better colors.

Although I know you aren't serious there are two points: a) photographers using digital medium format probably will use raw, the raw converter will determine the colors. b) I have seen SOOC comparisons between the portable medium format offerings by Hasselblad and Fujifilm: I preferred the Hasselblad colors, but the color profile used in the Fujifilm was very probably Provia, which is designed to be safe, almost uninteresting. You can choose in any modern digital Fujifilm not only among the many film simulations but a lot of recipes to get a rendering akin to your tastes.

@@ReinoldFZ The Hasselblad has superior color science and so does the old 16bit CCD full frame Hasselbad & Phase One sensors. I did my research and chose NOT to buy the GFX.
