I think people under-estimate the subtle mastery Brandon is demonstrating when he does his food demos. Shooting food, making it look appetizing and delicious, is one of the hardest challenges of cinematography.

@@Crusader1089 The lens is soft (literally and optically) and out of focus for anything that isn't in the center. It is also prone to defects which require an additional corrective lens. My kit lenses do a better job than my own eyeballs.

@@ej_tech it might not have the best optics but you have to admit it has amazing processing. A stunning resolution, over 8k, with a field of view beyond its competitors. Manufacturing defects do lead to some colour inaccuracy in some models, but generally it is able to accurately record billions of colours. And we shouldn't discount the frame rate which is generally above 90 frames per second, and a frame generation time which is the envy of the competition. We also should not underplay the benefits of the soft lens. It requires little maintenance and is often self repairing from minor defects. It is both waterproof and dust resistant. It works well in low light although it loses some colour accuracy, and will still work on the brightest of days with no change of lens required. Some may choose UV filters of course, but they are only considered necessary on the brightest of days and harshest of environments. I've seen people use the same hardware for 90 years without a problem, rivalling even the finest early 20th century lenses, and recent breakthroughs have made repairs and replacements viable for many forms of damage or manufacturer defects.

This sensor size is enormous. My friend uses this system but with Zeiss Otus lenses. Results are superb.

enjoyed it! I do like that they put video on this camera instead of what Hasselblad did.

I had the chance to use the 50sii with the 80mm 1.7. It produced the best pictures I have ever seen in my life. I can’t imagine how good this is.

Those electronic shutter issues are due to the IBIS engaging when the sensor is being engaged. It’s a weird timing bug. My previous generation Sony’s do that but newer ones do not.

Hey look its Vancouver. I used to work in a camera department and have always been a bit envious of both Fujifilms colour presets and their medium format line (shooting Canon currently)

The electronic shutter problems could result in really creative experimental photography, music album covers and stuff of that nature that is more of capturing a feeling rather than a moment

I love Brandon's work. LTT is missing that extra something without him. I just acquired a Fuji X-T30 and love it. The GFX series is AMAZING for what it is but its too slow for certain tasks and isn't a do it all camera. For the home photographer that likes Fuji, I'd recommend something X, like the X-T5 or a used X-T4. I know its a APS-c but its cheaper and you get all the benefits of Fuji and save money for lenses and an external recorder and batteries and such if you're starting from scratch.

Brandon makes every camera look insanely capable. Guy is so good he could get pro results out of a $4 AliExpress kids camera.

I have the previous GFX100S, using it with the native GF35-70 and a set of Pentacon 6 Zeiss’es. The only thing I really want to test out is FLog2 and maybe new codecs and crops

Me, still watching in 1080p: ah yes those shots are very uhhh... nice. Yeah. But for real, I hate the trend Fuji seems to be taking of removing the d-pad from the back. It's so much better for usability and barely affects the ergonomics.

Then you could adapt FX and GFX mount lenses, and full frame from other mirrorless manufacturers to the NEW GFX. That way third party like Viltrox, Sigma, Tamron could make lenses for the NEW GFX mount too, maybe same ones that they made for full frame and that can cover 44x33. I think it's the best way. Some people say a MF mount it's too big to make an APSC camera, but you see Nikon Z with the APSC line and it's fine, a MF mount is only very slightly bigger. Even you can make a receded mount, so an APSC lens can be very small diameter except for the part that go inside the camera body. - Just going with a new mount only for APSC and Full Frame that could use FX and GFX lenses in the new mount. I think it's no the ideal way, but it can keep the cost down for sensors. If Fuji someday go with the "one mount" solution I will go all in Fuji without a doubt.

A new GFX50 III with Phase detect , a 35mm F1.7 f2 lens and a 140mm F2.8 lens Will round out the whole GFX system and eliminate any clamours for a Fuji fullframe camera.

I see reviews here and on blogs comparing this to the GFX 100S. This is not the 100S Mark II. It's the 100 Mark II. It's not a more expensive 100S; it's a $2000 less expensive GFX 100 Version 1 ($7500 + $500 for the grip). You didn't have a grip option or a removable prism with the 100S so the complaint that it cost more than it should isn't rational. I'm contemplating upgrading from my 100 Mark I. Way better viewfinder resolution, total of THREE batteries with the grip (one in the body, two in the grip itself), better ergonomics, the ability to detach the grip if you want to go lighter (for location vs studio work), and the improved video specs are pretty amazing considering I paid $10K for the first iteration. Just wish people would stop comparing it to the 100S. That's a great camera on its own, but they are two different models for different uses/users. Even if Fuji decides not to continue the S version and has merged the two into this one body design it seems like it's easily $2500 worth of improvement.

I can't confirm 100% because I've never discussed this with a Fujifilm engineer but I think it's probably a combination of processor and other trade offs like heat management and battery life. This is just my own speculation though.

I guess high resolution medium format sensors are not suitable for video yet (if ever). Makes sense that Hasselblad didn’t even add video to X2D.

With Sony's dual layer stacked sensor tech we might get either a camera with unimaginable low light performance with lower megapixel cameras and probably better low light performance for higher megapixels cameras. Even better is smaller cameras like the APSC can benefit from better light gathering capabilities of the dual stacked sensors. Basically we might get medium format with APSCs and full frame with medium formats. Probably 😂. I think other than image processing, sensor tech is getting another big leap in tech.

It is somewhat subjective, I know, but I like using the Hasselblad XD (X1Dii or X2D) far better. Notice I wrote "using" as it is important. If you look the specs sheet, the Fuji brick has a longer one. Pluses of the Hasselblads: ergonomics, solid built, simplicity of menus and use, color straight out of the camera. [I am a photographer who takes photographs, I do not want to spend any time doing videos or roaming across a landscape of customizations and menu options I have no use for, but it is just me, I know].

Well done using text with audio! I often find creators forget to use text over video especially when talking numbers, not using their screen real estate, and makes for a bland video.

Camera is great for eComm and some campaigns but the files are too surgical in nature for editorial and fashion campaigns.

Great video but have to disagree. Going MF instead of FF was probably Fuji’s biggest boner decision. The argument that FF market was “too saturated” (whatever that means) and they couldn’t compete… but had they gone FF and made X mount lenses for both APSC & FF they’d be a dominant force right now taking market share from the big 3. Instead most professionals only use Fuji for fun / family / travel pics and their FF for professional work because of the low light, IQ, and yes their AF hits 90-97% of the time even on kids and fast moving animals. Furthermore, they could have leaned on existing 3rd party lenses while building out their lineup and focusing on one mount for a larger audience instead of 2 mounts with a nearly nonexistent market (honestly who actually buys medium format??)… perhaps one “XS” line of lenses with lower element count for character & pop, another “XF” line for more clinical sharpness & rendering, along with red badge for pro grade, then “XC” for compactness & budget only fitting APSC. But they just had to be different (which isn’t always better) spreading themselves too thin instead of streamlining one system….

I do find Fuji's focus kind of interesting. Not selling full-frame has allowed them to produce great APS-C cameras, not to mention the things they're doing on the MF front. Most serious photography is FF, obviously, with some specializations also using MF; I've always suspected Fuji is trying to make MF a compelling alternative to FF. At least that's the case for those who can stretch their budgets a bit, but some GFX bodies seem competitively-priced relative to high-end full-frame bodies. I've noticed that some professional wildlife and sports photographers do like APS-C (and even Micro Four Thirds), especially with advances in its low-light performance. I almost bought a Fuji APS-C body, before I decided that I wanted a full-frame camera, with the caveat that it be somewhat compact. I ended up with a Canon EOS R8.

the output really is not better... rather worse than a new FF camera... the "medium format" sensor is barely bigger than a 35mm Sensor and has nothing to do with classic Medium Format Photography.... a 645 image is still almost twice as big as the Fuji sensor and that's the smallest Medium Format there used to be... the first generation really was only an enlarged old sensor with extremely slow readout

Great balanced and honest review. I would love to see a comparison to the Sony A7R5 or A1. BTW, I shoot XH2 and XH2S plus X100V with 17 lenses.

Honestly.... coming from 645 and 6x6 i was incredibly disappointed by the Fuji and Hassleblad Medium Format... the Sensor is barely bigger than 35mm and so far the Sensors have been incredibly slow... it's a nice cheap alternative for Landscapes but in everything else i'd rather stick to FullFrame or Medium Format Film... the only real use i have found for my 50R was to use it to scan my Film... although the used price of the first generation of Fuji Medium Format cameras makes them pretty attractive as a competition for the high resolution FF bodies.... though the lens line up is kinda meh... medium format really shines in super wide angles... and Fuji only has the 23mm

@@ChrisThe1 okay other than that just being completely untrue.... resolution and dynamic range are completely meaningless.... content is either consumed digitally at 1080p or up to 4k resoltuion... a 5D II was capable of both.... and dynamic range again consumed on a screen with like 8 stops of dynamic range doesn't really matter.... what are you gaining from the Fujifilm GFX? if you think you have bigger PP because resoltuion has a higher number... sorry to disappoint you... even in print as in Advertisement you print at 300DPI (and film can be infintiely scaled with enlargers with no quality loss).... the Fujifilm GFX compares to 5-10 year old mirrorless when it comes to Dynamic Range... a Pentax 645Z could be an argument for Dynamic range... a Fuji... sorry but i have no clue what you're talking about... stop reading marketing material and actually shoot with a camera... i doubt you even know what dynamic range is... and please tell me you think it has anything to do with shadow/highlight recoverability i want to laugh

@@LoFiAxolotlI don't even know where to start. Maybe you could by writing a coherent sentence. In any case: the gfx outperforms medium format film by 3-4 stops in dynamic range. Sure, consumption happens in 8 bit, but bit depth has nothing to do with dynamic range. Bit depth determines the graduation of luminance values, whereas dynamic range determines the extremes. If you stuff 15 stops of dynamic range into an 8bit file the graduation will be less fine than an 8 stop image, but you'll still see more in those extremes. In regards to highlight/shadow recovery: film keeps more information in the highlights, digital keeps more in the shadows. As such you tend to overexpose film and underexpose digital. dynamic range determines the total range so while digital is consistently better than film you'll still get more out of film highlights. In terms of resolution I've found that having more resolution than necessary isn't completely redundant. Aside from the obvious application of cropping you can still retain more perceived sharpness from a higher resolution file: it's called down-sampling and is quite abundant in video. That sharpness isn't necessary to produce good photos, and I certainly don't feel like I have a bigger PP because of my camera, but I like to make use of that increased clarity in my style. I don't think film is bad at all, I just dislike people spreading misinformation. Your disappointment in digital medium format is a mystery to me when the cameras technically outperform film in basically every regard. I don't care at all about marketing material; and I shoot plenty. I also find it ironic that you'd insult me with lack of knowledge but simultaneously claim that you can infinitely enlarge film. Even if we ignore the much less sharp lenses that most film systems have, the chemical compounds still set a maximum limit to film's resolution.

From a design point of view Fuji really dropped the ball with the GFX100II... Wobbly evf, movie-stills switch, cheap flappy port doors, lack of d-pad, etc.
