24 Hours with the Fujifilm GF 500mm F 5.6 + GFX 100s 2, photographing wildlife.

Фильм және анимация

Anthony tests the the fuji GFX 100s mk 2 and the GF 500mm F5.6 at Port Lympne Safari Park.
Apologies: please note a technical error correction at 1:43min I don't think these are the names of the new lens elements but names for optional filters for the lens. I was a bit tired having to record the to camera piece very early morning after sunrise before giving the gear back and then edit and post the video after the Fuji Summit.

Glad you were able to get your hands on the new GFX and the 500. I think it's really good that FUJI is expanding its range of lenses more and more. The pictures you were able to show were really great to see. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Greetings

Just as with the GFX100 II it is not a new sensor. Just some software smoke and mirrors. New cpu, evf and buffer are legit though if you want to spend the money. The cost to upgrade from 100S doesnt make sense for people who already own that body.

A very nice review. As the owner of a GFX 100s, I’m not sure there is enough here for me to upgrade, but it’s tempting. Even the improved EVF and faster operational speed (and possible improvement to IBIS) might be enough. And although it’s a small change, I’m also very glad to see Fujifilm put an Arca Swiss compatible foot on their new GF 500mm lens. I have the (outstanding) GF 250mm lens and it is disappointing that this lens lacks the Arca Swiss foot.

Thank you for your contribution Anthony, it has been a while since you put up a video. But as always it was nice to watch. I must also say that it is great to hear the voice of sanity in the camera world. The frames per second race is getting a bit out of control I think. The fastest cameras only a few years ago were 12 frames per second and that actually ensured that you as the photographer had to work on your skill and techniques. Anyway thanks again and take care.

Did try to find your Video again because of the GF 500mm - turned out you wrote GFX 500 in your title. Maybe you could change that. I‘m afraid the current title could work against you. Cheers!

Hi David thanks for the comments. The 1.4xtc it seemed fine although I didn’t use it enough to give a fair assessment. Kind regards Anthony

Would you find the focal length limiting for your typical outings or does the ability to crop into the 100MP photos make up for the shorter effective focal length with quality holding up?

Hi, I think if I had the 1.4x tc as well as the cropping room I would be okay for most of the time, but sometimes a little short for small birds. 👍

Have you experienced buffer overflow after burst?

Hi Adam I didn’t push it too hard or do a controlled test on the buffer but it did fairly well when tracking a Rhino for around 20 shots.

At 1:37 you mention some Lens elements, where do you find that information !!!?

Hi I think I may have made an error with that info I think that the Fuji presentation was referring to the filter options rather than the Len’s elements. My bad. 👍

The new Fujinon 500mm 5.6 are compact and Light weight, but all other GF Lenses are not compact and Light weight !

Isn't it easier to just use a FF camera for telephoto work? I can understand using medium frame cameras for that in the old days since resolution was limited by grain size on the film, meaning that you wanted the largest negative practical, but in the digital era that is not a valid argument any more.

Hi Tugela thanks for the comment. yes it is easier in some ways. But sometimes easier is not the reason to dismiss new possibilities, now that medium format is so much faster than it used to be and less bulky, it makes it appealing to some wildlife photographers who just want the best image quality possible for certain projects and situations. I myself would certainly like to challenge myself on this system for wildlife photography a longer period of time just to see what’s possible 😀🤪 but that’s just me I like and thrive on a fresh challenge. Hope that makes sense? Kind regards Anthony
