I was part of the Ranger, Raptor and Everest crash testing unit back in 2020 and really enjoyed learning about the capabilities and changes that came with this model. Thankfully TJM have made a decent bull bar for the next gen. At the time we used an ARB bull bar made for the model, but it didn’t sit flush with the bumper and needed to be cut to fit. Looked rank and it sat too close to the bonnet. As soon as there was any front impact even at low speeds it pinched shut against the bonnet so you couldn’t disconnect your battery if you needed in an emergency. This would have been rectified by now. There is a 40A draw on start up for the next gen which was surprising. Don’t leave car accessories on for too long a time or you might need roadside assistance. The placement of some sensors and engine computers were a prick to access and you needed to be a contortionist to reach the ones under the instrument panel. Like all first released models there will be a few issues that will be resolved in the second and third released versions. I think it can compete with the dmax and hilux (as hilux I don’t believe have the same quality as it use to and for the price sits in the same place as it’s competitors). The ranger just needs the years of testing and reputation for quality. Like all cars being built the ancap rating is great and I can definitely recommend this on a safety aspect being part of over 80 crashes from car to car, car to pole and roo hits at 100kph. It held its own against any competitor. If I could afford the price tag now I would purchase one but now I don’t work for ford I miss out on the ford staff discount now 😂

I think the Ranger brand has really come a long way over the past ~10 years. I still think there are some minor issues to be ironed out, but most of the bad rep the model has is from older models or problems which have since been resolved with updates or revisions. I think from around the time the facelift T6 model came out (2016-2017) there has been a massive step up in reliability and quality of these vehicles and it has only improved since then. Price obviously differs from country to country, but here in South Africa the Ranger really is one of the best choices of double-cab there is at the moment. You can pick up a very good 2nd hand one for considerably cheaper than a Hilux or Dmax of similar spec and the new Ranger has gone what feels like a massive leap ahead in terms of premium features and quality of life improvements. The Wildtrak isn't a farm truck and that's not what it's built for, and I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wants a hardcore off-roader. But when I'm doing a long trip and spending 6-10 hours behind the wheel some days, I know that I would rather want to be in the comfort of the new ranger with all it's driver assist gadgets than in anything else (in this price range). Personally I will wait just a couple more years before buying one though, the model is still very new and it's bound to have some niggles that will get sorted out in a year or two after launch. Also, once they are over the hump and the waiting lists are a bit shorter Ford will likely expand the range to include models not currently available as a next gen, but are available as current gen and they will probably also do some interesting limited editions to spice the market up a bit. As for me, I would like to see the V6 diesel in the Raptor.

Colour matched Bull-bar and scrub bars is not only expensive than the traditionally used Black raptor paint. It lose the agressive looks, an additional way to re-coat, cuz it looks ugly when colour coated bumpers and bars rubs on the rock. Where as the on the black one it doesn't look as bad and cheaper to repair. In my humble opinion.

The stock tow hitch is so loose that if you go over a speed bumb or drive on gravel roads, you would swear something is falling off. Let's just put it this way, i don't sell Fords anymore. Great video though, showing how much extra cash you must put into it to make it a capable offroader. Sometimes, only sometimes those sensors dont like a simple nudge bar added as they just pick up the nudge bar, which becomes very frustrating for new owners. Otherwise, all the best to Ford owners on their new vehicles. Happy cruising.

@@animalscars3799 I’ve seen him drive the absolute crap out of other peoples fourbies. I think it’s because this one was so shiny. (Also a bit of tjm telling him to take it easy on their brand new show vehicle) hehe

Heading up the Cape last year I linked with a few good blokes on their way to Airlie Beach and they were Ford Egineers and had a wild track I think and an Everest and I have a 76 with a tune and they go really well, it was very interesting sitting down and having a few beers with them going over their thoughts and what can be adjuat or changed for the next version. We definitely pull them through some testing taking them through back roads when we didn't realise how much water was around. Seemed like a good car with heaps of power, but how long will they last

How long will they last? A lot longer than your back and kidneys if you keep driving that LC 70 series. You can buy a new car. But you cannot buy a new back. And kidney transplants are expensive.

The 3.0L V6 Ranger Platinum starts at $84,000 in NZ, one model down from the raptor. Another 20k on accessories and upgrades, now you have a 100k vehicle. 😬

The Aus. "Ranger" is ALOT different/better than the one sold right here in the USA. I find it funny that an American company makes a better truck for countries outside of America LOL.

The truck looks like its sprung heavy, and rides at full top out all the time. makes it look like a booing ride and constant wheel lifts. I'd like to know what eh full front IFS travel reach measures out at.

Waaay to many electronics for me. I am a huge fan of keeping it simple. Filling a vehicle with computers, sensors & aid systems is a recipe for disaster, assuming you aren't replacing the vehicle every 2 years. My trusty old Toyota still has many years on its life & a fraction of the electronics.

Interesting that TJM copy ARB in so many ways. Never owned a TJM product but I have a front and rear bullbar on my FJ from ARB and can attest to their strengths. look interesting, and colorful.

Owned a PX3 Wildtrak from new - great car. Got the Next-Gen Wildtrak- riddled with problems to the point where Ford gave me my money back. I loved it looks wise and the power was decent in the V6 but then I purchased a brand new 2021 200 series VX and have never looked back. Worlds apart in quality and power.
