Great song, but this is really old and they’ve grown so much since this performance, I really hope you do more Larkin Poe ❤️

Rebecca wrote this tune when she was in her teens, and at the time Rebecca and Megan were in a bluegrass band with their sister, Jessica. It never found a fit in that group, but after Jessica left the band, Rebecca and Megan reformed as Larkin Poe. When Larkin Poe started out, they were more Americana like shown here. Now they are more blues, roots rock, with the mandolin only showing up occasionally. This performance was during the transition to more electrified sound. Rebecca would have been around 24 here, her vocals have improved since then. For another take on this song, they did a performance with the Nu Deco ensemble that came out as a collaborative album last year, entitle "Paint the Roses". Interestingly enough, that was the first time the song was put on an album. Here is the link to MAAH, but the rest of the live performance is also worth checking out. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqJkzc2nntbThpc.html

Larkin Poe's catalog is deep and vast. They've got plenty of original music as well as an enormous collection of covers, mostly just Rebecca and Megan sitting in a bedroom, living room or random hotel room covering anything from John Denver to Black Sabbath and everything in between! They can do it all. As for vocals, you can find some of their best performances in those stripped down versions of just the two of them. Here are a couple of playlists if your interested. My fav "new band". They shred the blues and roots rock these days. This is a heart wrenching exquisite performance from early days.

I enjoyed your discussion of all of the elements of the song and performance. They are wonderful singer-songwriters. They started in classical stringed instruments went to bluegrass when it was still the 3 sisters and when it became 2 they switched to blues rock. Master musicians both of them. This is very unique for them. "Bleached Blonde Bottle Blues" was written by Rebecca when her sister Megan died her hair.

One of the most haunting performances ever. Not a typical LP song, but it gets me every time. That being said , Rebecca and Megan have matured as musicians, and they now shred blues rock with energy and skill that most oldsters can't match.

Aloha Coach Charlie, if you loved this version of MAAH, please check out their 2020 version collaboration with the Nu Deco Ensemble. Rebecca's voice has matured during the past 6 years or so.

Watch the one with the Nu Deco Ensemble. It’s other-worldly and brings me to tears every listen. It’s powerful. Seeing the sisters in 4 months. Could not be more pumped

Speaking of mental health, and highly effective (though not necessarily "beautiful") text painting, I _highly_ recommend doing a reaction the "Hi Ren", by Ren. Yes, EVERYONE is doing it--for good reason.

Hi Big Brain Singer! That was a GREAT reaction. I've really gotten into Larkin Poe the past year and I'm actually attending my 1st concert with them later this month in New York! Lastly, I'd like to request that you please listen to 19-year old Courtney Hadwin, similarly. I'd suggest 3-songs. Her cover of "Hard To Handle", which she performed at her America's Got Talent audition 5-years ago, her cover of "Sign Of The Times" and her original she just released a few months ago, "That Girl Don't Live Here". THANK YOU!

It may appear that they are unapologetic, but that is because they have nothing to apologize for!

My dad passed from Alzheimer's last month. It's one of the worst things to watch. It's one of the hardest things to wrap your mind around because there's nothing that can make sense of it. This song goes through the bargaining you really struggle with during the process.

I'm 48. This is the best song ever. Only song I like better than this is Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd. When I 1st heard this, I played it on Repeat for 4 days straight. Everything about it is perfection, imo. I was dead on the scene and in a coma 5 days when I was 24. Everyone says I haven't been the same person since, but I still feel just the same. This song awakened something within me that I never knew was there. After the solo, she starts wailing so beautifully. They're Edgar Allan Poe's great great great great granddaughters, and I'd love to hang out with them for a weekend. It's sad they're both married, but I hope they find happiness in life.

Been following them for about ten years and everything they do is great. It puzzles me that in talking to music loving friends they've never heard of them yet in Europe their last tour was sold out everywhere... go figure.
