You know i used to HATE my HUD in my MINIs because of that plastic… but i found out there’s one major benefit of it over other BMW Projected HUD options… IT WORKS WITH POLARIZED GLASSES!!!!!!!!! Since that, I’ve now preferred MINI’s approach (though question long term reliability of this raising/lowering mechanism worries me a little)

If it's aprox. 65kWh usable that almost the same as Bolt EV/ EUV and KIA Niro EV. They are rated 247 and 253 miles so if this Mini does really 269 miles thats impressive efficiency!! As size and weight seems to be similat to Bolt EV/EUV and KIA Niro EV.

I'm a BMW driver, I was curious so as the i4 was in the shop, I asked for a Mini Electric SE Cooper as a loaner. I spent a week with it, and I fell in love with the 2023 model switches on the middle dash, the knobs for the climate control, the switches for lights and the sunroof on the headliner, and the actual buttons around the iDrive controller on the console. The round screen with only the middle rectangle as an active screen was a bit style over substance, but there was a nice smaller screen behind the steering that actually moved when you adjust said steering. I'd take that cockpit over the new screen and touch any time of the day, it's even better than my i4's overall (well, my steering with its switches and my HUD are better). And it drove like a dream, decent suspension, a bit jostly over low frequency bumps, but direct steering, flat and go-karty cornering just loke the ads say. My wife also loved it, I briefly considered it as one of our next cars. However, honestly, the interior of the new Mini's, either the Cooper SE or the Countryman suck. They lost all these switches and buttons, and the sorry excuse for switchgear below the round screen hardly compensates. Sorry, my brief love for the Mini is now over. I'm not buying a Tesla-in-a-Mini-cloth. The reason why I bought the i4 is to stay away from the iPad-on-wheels thing, and it's sad to see that even Minis are imitating them. BMW is not doing itself any favor by imitating what they claim is "not a premium product". They are trying so hard to be Tesla I might be tempted to buy the Tesla itself.

Fantastic review!! I have a Mini SE and LOVE it- if it had 50 more miles range I would never let it go- I am not in need of huge range either but still... One thing I would miss is the center MPH binnacle- I really hate that plastic "heads up display" I get cutting costs but for what they are asking- I will miss that front binnacle. And I like the combination of switches, touchscreen and scroll wheel in the SE that I own. A few steps forward and a few steps back to me.

Kyle, I think you're all over the place with charging rates. The Mini Countryman has a 64.8kWh (net) battery. The ID.4 is shipped in Europe with either a 52 or 77 kWh (net) battery size. Charging with the BMW/Mini as well as the ID.4 is 10-80% SoC in 30 minutes. The small battery ID.4 Pure comes with 50kW DC as standard and a 650€ option to upgrade to up tp 120kW peak charing. The ID.4 77kWh versions depending on AWD or RWD come either with 175 or 135kW peak. The upcoming iX2 will probably be BMW's last BEV on the BMW gen 5 battery platform, it's not out there with Hyundai, but certainly industry standard when it comes to DC fast charging.

I couldn’t agree more about with your comments on the range. If it has a smaller battery pack and a quick charging time with a good charging curve, that would be great. Sometimes I wonder who does the market research for these vehicles? I’ve been driving electric vehicles for 12 years now I think the sweet spot is around 300 miles range, but this would really work well if it had better charging speeds. Disappointing considering it’s still a couple years away and the competition will be fierce.

Don’t see the charging as a problem…most people will charge at home and not be road tripping a mini…most! I have a Kia Niro EV with charging much slower than the new mini and I’ve never had an issue driving around town (Washington DC) and we only charge it on AC 120v…not an issue at all…it gets about 235 miles at 80% charge and never had range issues…that’s where most will be using it I would guess…

The basic premise here is that BMW with the mini needs to beat the new e500 that is due out in a few months - the one that is 25% cheaper to build and 25% quicker to build - so it could DEA the miniE both on price esp but also on range. BMW have done the same with the last model miniE when they used all the parts from the BMW i3. By doing the same again has it compromise the miniE on price and range?

It will only have about 11 kW AC charging once it gets to the US, of course. Also, what's wrong with 60 kWh battery? Model 3 RWD is roughly the same. A bit more is better, sure but 60ish is fine. Especially if they get on the NACS train before launching here. But I do agree with 135 kW DC charging. The only thing that might save that slow speed a bit is if it has a very late ramp fall off.

This new Countryman puzzles me. The front is nice, like the center screen and the increased space. What I did not like were the following: the door handles look like the ones in BMW x1 thus lose the retro character of the F60, the absence of a gauge cluster even as an option, the seats are great but they seem more fitting in a BMW x1 than a Mini, the cloth on the dash and on the doors will get dirty (sunscreen, sweat, dust) and I believe in the long run it will be very hard to clean and the rear with that bump of a trunk seems more like a car from a KIA line-up than a Mini. Love the rims though.

I have the current Cooper SE and it’s charging curve is great up to 85% on a 50kW charger - the problem is getting it to charge at 50kW as it cannot precondition when driving. In two years ownership I’ve seen the 50kW charge speed once, normally it charges at 35-40kW because the battery is not warm enough. Since U.K. domestic charging fees have dropped I don’t public charge any more - why pay 25p/kW on a 22kW AC charger or 35p/kW on a fast charger when I only pay 7.5p/kW at night at home. Also as a retired person who does a 32 mile round trip to the nearest good shop every couple of days the Cooper S E’s 29kWhr battery has not caused range/charger anxiety at all. Longest trip I’ve had to do was a couple of 90 miles round trips and even in the dead of a cold Scottish winter I got home with 15% SOC. I do hope that the new Mini EV’s get a more accurate GOM though, present algorithm is way too pessimistic. The lack of a proper info display in front of the driver is a serious omission on the new cars too. I will also admit that I do have a another car for doing 4x4 stuff and longer drives and it has 650 miles range………

I absolutely hate the looks and the concept of this car. It's so big, that it hardly deserves to be in a brand called MINI. Then they went with the minimalist interior like Tesla, which again, I hate. Mini is always about efficient use of space. Creating a car so big with such a massive bonnet without a front trunk is incomprehensible -- what are they doing with all of that space? In terms of range, I think it is just enough -- for 265 miles WLTP is probably around 200 - 220 miles real world, again, just adequate, but as Kyle pointed out, not great for roadtripping. Again, one wonders the thinking and design goal of Countryman, if not for road trips?

@@robbiewiliams1974 Well, everything can fail. I don't see this as a valid criticism, especially not with electric vehicles. People will leave their pets in the car, if only for 10 minutes. Why not offer a better solution to the problem.

🤦‍♂️ Mini’s new EV offerings are baffling. Nice interiors, but specs and exterior designs are questionable. Makes me sad. I’ve had two Minis, a 2008 Cooper S and a 2012 Cooper. Both are better looking than these new EVs. So disappointing. Mini, you’re blowing it. I really WAS looking forward for a Mini EV for my next car. 😢

Your tone and speech towards Alyssa isn't very kind. I was quite uncomfortable watching this video. You should practice kindness without condescension. This isn't the first time I've picked up on it either.
