We do not know who Godwyn’s father was. Only his mother. As this is a GRRM story, there will be at least one bastard son. So, Mogh and Morgott are more likely to be step-siblings.

Also there's the chance this isn't really a boss, like in all fromsoft games a lot of "common" enemy designs can look intricate enough to look like a boss, my guess is that this is a common enemy and at the maximum a dungeon boss.

To be fair, Godwyn doesn't have any Omen traits that we know, Dung Eater also has no omen signs and still he is Omen by heart. Godwyn not only is son of Godfrey (leader of the crucible knitghts), but also brother of Morgott and Mogh. The only son of Marika and Godfrey to not have Omen semblance, making him the odd one out. I would not be surprised if in DLC we find out Godwyn had some kind of connection to the Crucible and that is in part why the Death curse exist.

Idk I just really hope godwyn is featured because miquella, st Trina, messmer, and marika are the main characters of the dlc so far so having godwyn too would tie up pretty much all of the *biggest* secrets besides Melina and some things about the outer gods and gloam eyed queen.

We still have at least 3 more unrevealed weapon classes and curiosity is killing me. I would love to see something that can function as a staff as well as a weapon like how Loretta can fight.

The heavy use of chacrams can be an indication of older cultures too They are ancient weapons from India and has connection to the most respected god of India's pantheon - Visnu It is also a small and interesting detail. It is not the first time when souls series had shown some Indian elements - for example in DS3 the architecture of Ringed city was very similar to ancient cities of India

Miquella wants to give Godwyn a proper death. If you look up "Spanish Gold" it was once thought that the ashes of a basilisk, the hair of a red headed man, and copper were required to make this purest of the pure gold (unalloyed). Miquella also wanted to cure Melania. I've been saying for a while it just makes sense to bring back Godwyn as a basilisk. Basilisk means "king of serpents." Should be an interesting DLC.

That appears to be the big lion boss with the cloak off. The feet are identical and it has the omen horns and the size and posture appear to be consistent. The feet are the big giveaway.

The ornate gold mask and cuffs do seem to indicate a being that existed at a time when omen and similar creatures were considered divine. It would also make sense that many of the old "divinity" would be hidden away in this sort of purgatory realm by Marika as they did not fit with the ideals of the Golden Order. Their order was chaotic and animalistic, unbound and varied in its forms. It seems they also valued survival of the fittest, and a "might makes right" mentality with strength being what befits a crown. Fitting of an age that sprung from the Crucible.

I'm going dark on this news now. I don't want to see another trailer. I think they have shown enough.

The first thing I noticed about that boss was the nearly purposeful eternity symbol the rings make with broken features between the two rings.

A few things make me think that enemy is Godwyn, or at least some form of him. Firstly, the blades he's holding. They seem imbuded with the Rune of Death just like the Black Knives are, and we know Godwyn was one of the victims of the Night of the Black Knives alongside Ranni, marking them both with a Cursemark of Death. Since she freed her spirit from her dead flesh, the opposite happened with Godwyn. We know his body is in Deeproot Depths, but we don’t know where his soul has perished. Perhaps in the Land of the Shadows? Secondly, Godwyn is strictly tied with the Crucible. He is (one of the) son of Godfrey, first Elden Lord and commander of the Knights of the Crucible. Furthermore, he is the brother of the two shardbearer twin omens, Morgott and Mohg. What are the odds that their brother wouldn't also have aspects of the Crucible somewhere within him? [Edit] Maybe we aren't seeing Godwyn himself, but it's undeniable it will be heavy releated with the Prince of Death in some way or another

I agree with your last point. It’s not Godwyn, but heavily related in some way. It would lend credence to the theory that Marika was involved in the Night of the Black Knives if these omen enemies are mimicking Godwyn’s pose. It’s almost as if they are doing the pose of Marika, and that is also the pose Godwyn dies in. These enemies may be cursed, In some way or another, by Marika, in the same way (if you believe that Marika killed Godwyn) that Marika cursed Godwyn. Hence the similar posture between all three parties discussed I’m personally not a believer that Marika killed Godwyn. But I’m always open to other’s interpretations

Bro did NOT fell off I have fought Morgott a lot to the point that i can tell in 2:04, that is definitely an omen foot (similar to the lion dancer). But Omen’s bodies are actually vary buff like on steroids and the image-not so much. Like you said, the hands symbolize Goldwyn, but also the hair structure and the pattern on the back(similar to the black knife carving). Godwyn also wears bracelets, but they are a bit different. All this is definitely not a coincidence, but it’s also possible that Godwyn got his form from the thing we see on the image. Also, the mask definitely signifies the golden order, a bit similar to D (it is to bright to be something like Zamor gold). From Messner we know that in the land of shadows there is a faction that fights for the Golden Order even though they themselves are cursed.

Something about the stance and musculature of the new image gave me strong vibes of William Blake's "Great Red Dragon" paintings. The more I look at it, the more intentional it seems.

Have you guys noticed how the "O" in shadow (As in Shadow of the Erdtree) is literally (or at least similar to) the mending rune of death? It's pretty hard to make out, but at a glance is noticable

the posture looks like there’s something he’s connected to in the shadows… almost like he’s grafted onto something standing up based on the feet’s position… considering the other creature with the chakram in the trailer was amalgamated to that melting horse, it wouldnt be too far off to imagine this thing is attached to something else as well, as that seems to be another common crucible theme, and probably the inspiration for grafting

Moxie Watts theorized possible connections with Daedicar’s Woe item (which I didn’t even knew existed in game). It actually looks kinda solid, and would have some interesting lore implications/hints for the DLC. They mention it around 17-18 minute mark.

Posture gives the creature the same silhouette as female reproductive organs. Considering the Golden Order's stranglehold on birth in the lands between this guy likely is opposed to the golden order (maybe he even duplicates or spawns additional enemies)

But it could also be a design choice to let that creature appear more ominous and beastly in nature - and less human. Possibly a human that has been transformed by the influence of the crucible, which seems to be especially strong in The Land of Shadows (probably due to i being the origin of the Erdtrees). And could that golden mask be a hint to the golden lineage!? Maybe the creature is an unknown Demigod (which would also align nicely with it being a boss)!? :)

The death rot below the city that is supposedly Godwyn is somewhat similar to the removed sea creature that was shown on the map prior to release.

Why are noone mentioning this??? That boss has been stabbed in the back by a black knife! My theory is that it’s Godwyn’s body, but not Godwyn himself. Miquella wants to revive Godwyn, so maybe this is the result?

I think the enemy is the Formless Mother 'The Formless Mother, also referred to as the Mother of Truth,[1] is an Outer God[2] who was encountered by Mohg deep underground. She is known to crave wounds, and to bestow power upon accursed blood. Her body can be pierced using Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear, causing the weapon to become coated in Bloodflame, or an arm can be thrust into her body in order to scatter Bloodflame on the ground, using the incantation Bloodboon.'

I wish you showed the image brightened. There’s a lot of details hidden in the darkness. Like the actual posture of the boss, and the hole in its back.

Its me or the pose of this new boss is like an uterus? At least a silhouette. Something like "Mother blood" or something like that, the godess that Moghwyn talk.

I wonder if Mesmer is the true final boss of the DLC, because Artorias, Lady Maria, they were not the final bosses of their DLCs. So maybe he's an important figure of the DLC but maybe there's another boss which is the true final boss of the DLC.

Thank you for the superb update. Subscribed. About posture, of course gameplay has a strong influence: our 2 meter character combats bosses 10 m tall. If they don’t hunch down, we won’t see them! But you are right to think it’s not only gameplay, because From will build it into the lore, maybe even coherently!

I think the most important part about that new Boss is the Pose. It basically resembles an Uterus and that cant be without a good reason. ...Formless Mother or sth, idk.

It has to be related to Godwyn. And also, it looks like the Returned in Magic the Gathering. Miyazaki is said to be a fan of Magic, so maybe that was his inspiration.

If I'm honest, it looks like a dance of sorts, ceremonial, which if correct, makes it the second ceremonial dance portrayed in the DLC alongside the Lion Dance. Perhaps a Celebration of the Crucibal, a festival in the vein of Radahn's.

The jagged gash on the boss's body, much like Godywyn's, is the cursemark of death. So maybe people in the lands of shadow have also been doing the cursemark half-killing ritual to people to create creatures like Godwyn. That sounds like it would be insane lorewise but it might be that Godwyn only has his crazy deathroot powers because he was a demigod. Maybe if you kill the soul of a regular person they just turn into a different type of undead without the powers and that's what we're seeing.

This could be a miniboss in the area with the lion dance boss, as both have omen horns. The lion boss could have some connection to Godwyn, as it uses lightning attacks and deathblight. Haven‘t seen anyone discuss the lightning it used in the gameplay footage.

The line going down the back of the guy in the image is kinda similar to the line going down the back and front of Godwyn found in Stormveil and Root Depths

The posture of the DLC boss reminds me a lot of the Dancer of the Boreal Valley, particularly when she is approaching the player during her boss fight in DS3

Everytime i see that samurai fighting scene it makes me think of stormblood

I think that this enemy could be a melee variant of the candlestick-wielding enemies seen in the reverse grip swords section of the DLC gameplay trailer. Those enemies have similar horns, and if they might be primarily ranged fighters, a la the "sweetings"'s fire breath attack, then this chakram enemy could handle melee attacks. Maybe he'll have a few projectiles, depending on if he can even catch those chakrams, based on their design. Those Omen horns are curious, as they're quite "well-behaved" compared to the horns in the Lands Between. This enemy's horns are apparently staying on his head, and they're not trying to obstruct his vision or pierce his body. In contrast, even Morgott had to trim some horns so they wouldn't weigh on his eyelids too much or obstruct his vision, and one of Mohg's horns has pierced his left eye and perhaps even his brain. As for the rest of the Omens, their horns grow all over their bodies, seem prone to growing new horns straight out of broken horns and potentially causing irritation or infections (aside from the sewer conditions), and these horns might be at risk of impaling them just like with Mohg. Additionally, this DLC enemy has all five digits on his hands and feet, a la Morgott and Mohg (though Mohg's toes are reminiscent of dewclaws). In contrast, most Omens are born lacking some digits from their hands and feet, perhaps indicating that these enemies are somehow closer to the royal twins or else their condition isn't as severe. However, we haven't seen this enemy's entire body yet, so there might be an unsettling trait obscured in the shadows, like an oversized tail. Alternatively, the horns on his head might be too heavy and that's why he has that stance, not just because he's in a ducking and lunging pose. The golden mask reminds me of D's armor and the Guardians with plants growing out of them, but I find the hair coming out of the right eye hole (from the enemy's perspective) very intriguing. Is there hair somehow growing out of the foe's eye, or is something messed up about their head beneath the mask? Is there something about the horns or the Land of Shadow that has made this enemy insane to the point where they put their mask on in a deranged rush and never fixed this blatant hindrance? It's interesting. The design of the chakrams seems like they could be bleed weapons, so perhaps this warrior is from a Formless Mother culture. Thanks for the video, Ziostorm!

That is NOT Godwyn. Its is a boss called Curseblade Labirith which goes invisible when you fight it.

i personally think it might even be the old man from the protrait in the trailer (boss in tweet could be his second phase or a summon of some kind) as they have the same color gold robe, skin tone, and white hair

That boss looks so cool, it reminds me of the dancer and those guys in senpou temple in sekiro that team up on you and are hard to fight

The golden mask kinda looks like the Dancer’s Mask (or whatever it’s called) from Sekiro.

Some of the beastmen in the crumbling farum azula also have this type of gleve throable weapon and i am pretty stoked and exitet to get something like that ingame my self. :]

That posture (or lack thereof) and that gnarly gash on his back sure do point to Godwyn. Not sure about the Regal Omen horns tho. I assume they're regal because they're uncut.

Theres literally 2 Crucible Knights on the prince of death area, I see the connection.

It'd be sick if this was like some sort of rival/hunter type enemy that shows up at random points in the dlc, like the pursuers from ds2, i think that would be dope asf

Something that stood out to me is that the chakrams look like they’re imbued with destined death. They have same color and pattern as the blades used by the black knife assassins. The arm pose might not be directly related to Godwyn as much as it is to destined death. The pose resembles the downward-arcing rune of death in the same way that Marika’s pose resembles her upward-arcing rune.

With just how insanely bent over that creature is, it almost looks like its torso is coming out of the stomach of another creature. Kind of like how the maggot creatures come out of the stomach of hollows in DS3's Church of the Deep.

it also looks like the omen has a large scar on its back, maybe like godwyn.

About Godwyn’s possible connection to omens, both of his direct brothers are omens. Maybe something about the omen curse will be further revealed to us, maybe it’s not a curse that one is born with but is given to them… maybe Godwyn’s ability had something to do with spreading this curse to others such as his brothers, influencing one like the Dung Eater, or something else. Maybe when his soul was separated from his body it transformed his soul, which this may be, to that of an omen… that or it’s just demasked Lion Dancer which would also be badass but I would prefer to have that remain as a secret and revealed when we actually do play the dlc

I want another trailer where they show us a bit more gameplay (maybe confirm one or two new weapons types?) and things we've already seen, but at a different angle.
