This is the first DE product I'm going to buy! I like the line, but their stuff is soooo pricey. However, I've been looking for a relatively clean cleansing balm that doesn't have cocoa butter as their main ingredients, AND that aren't super expensive (for cleansers, anything over $40 it too much, for me). Thanks, Elle! I do want to mention that after a long search, I've found a cleansing balm I REALLY like on Etsy--it's from NauralWisdomSpa, and it's called Oil Gel Cleanser with Pomegranate and Carrot Seed Oils. She has 2 versions, the one I bought and Organic Blue Tansy Oil Gel Cleanser with Pomegranate and Amaranth Seed for dry, sensitive or reactive skin prone to redness. [UPDATE: I just checked and saw that the carrot one is no longer available; I messaged the owner and she said but the Blue Tansy version is very similar but instead of the carrot, has the blue tansy, and contains essential oils. Not sure if the carrot version is out of stock or gone permanently] Anyway...rather than a really heavy or waxy base like other balms I've tried, it's more like an almost jelly base--very easy on the skin, it gets everything off without stripping the skin. Afterward, my face feels clean but not stripped, dry, or tight, as it often does with other cleansers, nor does it have that waxy or greasy feeling/residue. It's the first step of my double cleanse routine, and while I always follow it with a gentle cleansing products, it almost feels unnecessary. [Shout out to the Etsy shop Chikyu (originally recommended by Elle), from whom I get my second-step cleanser--I love the Organic Oats and Honey Facial Cleanser: www.etsy.com/listing/229636106/dry-skin-flaky-skin-chemical-free?ref=shop_home_active_12&crt=1. I have no affiliation/get no benefits, am just fan)] Back to the cleansing balm jelly...I've been using it for about 2 weeks and I love it--it gets EVERYTHING off, feels wonderful on my skin, and causes zero breakouts/irritations (which normally happen easily, and is why I try to only use products that are super clean but ALSO score low on the comedogenic scale. For example, cocoa butter: while when processed correctly it's completely 'natural' and 'clean,' it unfortunately causes massive breakouts on my face; it's a 4/5 on the scale. The comedogenic scale isn't a perfect system, but can be a great guide/starting place if you're trying to figure out which ingredient causes breakouts). I also really like this cleanser because it takes EVERYTHING off your eyes but there's ZERO stinging (unless your mascara stings)! Seriously, I apply it to one (closed) eye, massage/rub it in, then open that eye and apply it to the other! The one caveat is that the seller is in the UK: but honestly, shipping did not take that long (I think it came in about a week), and I just checked my receipt, and shipping was $6.84 (I live in California). The cleanser itself is $32.85, and I got it on sale 10% off. The woman who makes it has other products I'd love to try, but most are a bit too expensive for me--but, they are a bit less than DE products. As of April 10, '19, the 10% off sale for this and some of her other products is still going on. Link to her shop: www.etsy.com/shop/NaturalWisdomSpa?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=235148938§ion_id=1 Last note: I have no affiliation and get no coupon, discount or anything else from the seller (I'm sure she has no idea this post even exists, much less who posted it). I'm super picky and fussy about ingredients but also have a limited budget, which often means I spend A TON of time researching products that work for me. So when I find one I really like, I try to spread the word. I especially like to support small businesses, particularly those owned by women or that have environmentally-friendly practices when possible (she's trying to go plastic-free this year!). Ok, this post got WAYYY to long, but hopefully someone finds it helpful!
I am just waiting for mine to show up!!! Thank you for your review. xoxo

Dear Elle, thank you once again for the nice and helpful video. I've ordered this and want to try it although I have already tried the Eve LOM cleansing balm which is excellent. But my actual favorite is the Pharmacy cleansing balm which is softer and easier to wash off compared to Eve Lom. So we will see which of the 3 would become my go to cleansing balm. Hugs from Paris

very very similar to be honest
Because of this video I became very enthusiastic and orderd this cleanser. Unfortunately I got an allergic reaction so I can't use it again.
I will have to add this to the list of balm/oil cleansers. I bought the Bare Minerals Oil Obsessed cleanser 2 months ago and I'm in love with it. I actually look forward to washing my face and it does so well removing makeup! I'm sure it's not so "clean" though :(.

@ElleLearyArtistry

well DE is a lot cleaner so personal choice
I’ve been using coconut oil for so long like a face balm and makeup remover. I follow it with a moisturizing facial cleanser. It’s worked for me. I hesitate on the Drunk Elephant line because of the expense. I was thinking of getting one of the “Littles” they have to try the products to see if they will work for me. Wish they had sample sizes to try out. My skin is weird and has reactions to things either right away or after time, it’s like a guessing game. Do you think the Littles travel size would be good for a try out?

Yes, that is what I started with and repurchased everything and then some.
Has anyone tried the new Ordinary cleanser? I hear it's like balm. Wondering how it compares to Clinique, DE and other balms!
Just checked this new cleansing balm out this morning and it looked great (and I live Drunk Elephant products), so I’m delighted that you’ve reinforced my first impression of it! How does it compare to Farmacy Green Clean balm? Do you prefer one over the other and, if so, why? Thanks so much - I really value your opinions and so appreciate your wonderful videos! ❤️

Elle Leary Artistry Thanks so much, Elle! “That is like picking children” - lol! I really like the Farmacy Green Clean, too, but if this is a tad cleaner, I’ll definitely give it a try (I’m nearly out of Green Clean). Love me some Drunk Elephant! ❤️
Hi Ellle, thanks for this great review. Is the Bamboo Booster similar to TATCHA Rice Polish Gentle or should I incorporate the Drunk Elephant Bamboo Booster in addition to the TATCHA Rice Polish Gentle?
@ElleLearyArtistry
5 жыл бұрын
DE is a little more "rough" Tatcha is more gentle. DE you shouldn't use every day and Tatcha you can use a lot more often
I haven’t tried any drunk elephant products. Maybe I’ll try it once I run out of my other stuff. Have you tried any of Tula’s probiotic skincare? I recently received their cleanser in my FabFitFun box and I’m loving it.. can’t remember if I’ve seen you talk about it.

Nikki Bonham no but it is on my list to try for sure!!
I love drunk elephant and I have all of their products. I don’t wear face makeup and all my products are free from the “suspicious 6”. For some reason it makes my face red and stingy. I haven’t even tried the bamboo booster yet. I’m bummed because I really do love drunk elephant.
Hi Elle! So glad you reviewed this product, it definitely caught my attention since I’ll be needing a new cleansing balm soon. I’ve been using the one from Farmacy and I really do like it, but I feel like it’s hard to completely remove. I’m wondering if maybe I’m doing something wrong? I‘m also wondering how the two compare and/or differ?
@ElleLearyArtistry

are you using enough water to get the milky cleanser?
@BlackThorndRose
5 жыл бұрын
I think so, but maybe not enough water, or maybe I don’t spend enough time massaging it after I add the water. Because then I take it off with one of those tiny circular washcloths, and go in with my second cleanse. I can’t tell if what’s left over is the moisturizing ingredients, or if it’s a film from the cleanser itself.
@ElleLearyArtistry

oh I see it sounds like the moisturizing feeling you are explaining, that is what is good about balm cleansers, they don't strip

Does DE actually say the charcoal is detoxifying? There is no such phenomenon as detoxifying skin, it is physiologically not possible. Nathan from DE would testify to that.
@ElleLearyArtistry
5 жыл бұрын
When I use the word detoxify I mean the charcoal binds to dirt, pollutants, and helps pull it out of your pores, making them less visible (it's the oil and dirt that makes them appear bigger) hence it pulls toxins out of your skin.

I guess I’m the only one who dislikes it. I cannot stand cleansing balms that leave a film on my face and this one leaves my face feeling like grease. I always double cleanse yes but I just can’t stand rinsing this off and rinsing and rinsing and my face never feels clean -only greasy and super emollient. Blech!
