Honestly the part I love most about the Death Knight is that they actually used the same Hero Power that Amaz had in his own DK concept all the way back in 2014

I mean, it's pretty obvious. I know several people who had something similar or the same in their own DK theorycraft (I even played with the idea myself, except I didn't have die at the end of the turn). There are only so many ways to make a hero power since they tend to emulate 0 cost cards and that doesn't have a lot of room in budget to do interesting things. Like we saw DH have to break the mold and have a 1 mana hero power, creating new space. We are very close to tapped out for possible 2 mana cost hero powers, so I am curious what people have for their monk hero power actually...

Gnome Muncher says "Lowest Health Enemy" which means it's sometimes a 5/6 Lifesteal charge. If it sticks, and your opponents have no minions, its a 5/6 windfury with lifesteal, hitting your opponents face for 10 damage. Cool card.

While it is really cool, it’s pretty complicated and really out of flavor for the core game functions of hearthstone. A lot of new players are going to have a hell of a time trying to figure it out.

@@Noles4life77 Stagnation is how a game dies. It remains to be seen how well they can capitalise on the potential of this mechanic, but the core idea of runes is sound and there's no reason for it not to be in the game.

@@victoriarhode8948 I wish it had been there from the beginning honestly. Specializations were a thing in the WoW TCG that Hearthstone was based on, and I think it helped balance certain aspects of the game. Everybody got the opportunity to be “broken” because they could print the most powerful cards and lock them behind specific specializations. You can’t mix and match, so a Holy Priest can’t use Discipline or Shadow talents. I honestly wish a specialization system had been in place from the beginning, with Death Knights being the first who used 3 slivers of specialization instead of all or nothing. Kinda fits the DK class.

@@Noles4life77 It's perfectly fine for a game to have more complex classes that are harder for new players. Every fighting game includes characters that are easy to play and ones that are hard. If someone new to the game has a hard time with DK they've got every other class to play until they're ready, which will all be new to them, too.

I suspect it was partly a technical issue where they didn't want to add Undead until they had the ability to give a minion two tribes.

I would love to see a "deckbuilding effect" like Renathal that reads if your deck has no duplicates you get more rune slots, so we can play around with all (or close to it) death knight cards in one deck in a restricted way since they are obviously not meant to be played together but with no duplicates I think it can be fine

Definitely feels like they're leading in with single-rune-type cards and keeping more complex combinations for future releases as a strategy to freshen things up.

@@dinothedinosaur69 A runeless card could still be added to a 3-blood, 3-unholy, or 3-frost deck. A tricolor card could not.
Another important thing about Skeletal Sidekick, your Ghoul from the hero power is an undead. You always have access to a good target for it.

He mentioned this at one point but not while talking about the +2 attack guy, which was certainly my most immediate thought when I saw the card.
The level of thematic gameplay for the new class makes me hope that they will go back and revamp the old classes.

that system is legit just how deckbuilding works in Infinity Wars, though instead of just being a color choice kinda thing it's moreso like commander purity via the EDH format in Magic, but it is cool lol

@@laffecaffelott Best guess would be that they restrict the DK card pool to just 1-rune cards so that you can always have an option to pick from every type.

I already have my deck in head,and very control heavy dk,with ability to boardwipe,heal,and to also include two devourers,denthrium,sylvanas,murlocula for more healing,and infusrd clown for res. generation.

Runes felt sort of gimmicky and unreasonably complicated to me when they were first announced but it looks like they really executed them well and I'm very interested in how they play with them going forward
I really like the idea of a card in the future using one each of two different runes, or even one of each, as a way to add more balance a card
Can't wait for Lord Marrowgar to yell BOOOONESTOOOORM! every time he attacks.

Why would you want every class to be full of deckbuilding restrictions? The freedom to put together a deck of your own instead of being railroaded into a build is one of the main attractions of card games. You can play a stealth Rogue without having to limit yourself to only Stealth Spec cards. You can create deck themes without having your arm twisted by a restriction to do so. Speccing in DK is interesting because it is unique. If it was everywhere, it would get real obnoxious real fast. It pushes designs that will lead to hefty power creep because if you're going to restrict yourself to a specific spec, you expect a reward more powerful than your generic good card. Else, why spec at all? The best card in DK should be standalone better than the best card in every other class because other classes can combine those cards with anything while DK can't. The end result will likely be that DK decks will wind up just stuffed to the brim with high spec requirement cards that are so powerful it blows everyone else out of the water. Deckbuilding restrictions often only end up mattering in the deckbuilding phase. Once you're playing the game, it doesn't matter what cards are NOT in your opponent's deck when the cards that ARE in there are all backbreaking.

@@lMarcusl MTG, the game that inspired Hearthstone, uses a spec system since its inception and it makes the game much more interesting than Hearthstone because you can't just pick the best cards your class has, you have to decide which ones you want and spec your deck that way. DK is at a huge disadvantage compared to other classes. Their triple spec cards need to be op in order to compete, because other classes can combine every op card they have into one deck, which by the way is very boring and mindless. Restricting access via a spec system forces you to make decisions, and decisions are fun. There is another advantage as well. Since it divides classes into sub-classes, you need less cards in your collection to compete, since you won't need 3 class legendaries in order to compete, as your spec won't allow all of them.

@@ninototo1 Well, conversely you might also really need a chunky DK collection cause if you have just a bit of all the various specs, you don't potentially have enough ammo to build any of the specs into a reasonably decent deck. If your collection is leaning in the wrong way, like you have a triple Blood legendary but none of the good Blood cards, you're boned. The comparison to MtG is not quite appropriate I think because while yes, you do technically "spec" your deck in MtG, you're also not restricted by class in MtG. You have access to the entire range of existing cards to "spec" into and get to choose which ones are worth the investment and which are not. In Hearthstone, your speccing is restricted entirely to a very small subset of cards: DK cards. Neutrals offer some more variety but are generally not the workhorses of any deck so those are more of a filler, and all the cards for other classes are unavailable to you. If DK is to have 3 dedicated triple rune specs plus X number of hybrids, you have to be able to assemble all of that from just the 50-something cards the class has access to. Every expansion will be adding some 8 new class cards and those 8 cards, split into 3 different specs, potentially lead to a dedicated Frost spec deck getting like 2 cards it can even consider per expansion. The spec restriction will likely lead to a lot problems down the road, between railroading and limited influx of new cards, I'm not sure it's even something worth the benefits it brings. I would definitely not want to see this implemented anywhere outside of the DH class.

The music from the WotLK trailer is still beautifully haunting. Blizzard really did make some good trailers.
Look at the blue tattered "shirt/tabard" on the Skeletal sidekick, it's the same colour as the beaming sidekick. So the undead is actually a dead beaming, kind of a cool touch.

First thing I noticed about Gnome Muncher is that it can ignore big taunts. Opponent has a huge taunt when they're really low, pass turn and Gnome Muncher hits face!
I saw the MotLK reveal live stream in my KZread feed the other day. It was interesting to see 2K live viewers on a reveal for a Hurthstone expansion. Shizzard must feel very confident in their design team, because the amount of balancing work they've added to the game is humongous. Not just is there another full class, but that class has specializations that require balancing. Those of use who used to play World of Warcraft know how difficult balancing specs has been for that team. All in all, I wish Hurthstone and its players the best of luck!
To note, in frost, you can use a brann denathrius combo again with the mana refresh.

it's interesting they decide to add deck building mechanics like renathal and runes so late in hearthstone's life

These rune cards are a fantastic mechanic. Superb for balancing!
Going full Blood rune with Daddy D seems very strong and fun, maybe constructed will be good for the first time in months.
Man it's been a long time since I've been active in Hearthstone, like pre-descent of dragons era, so it's cool to be around when a cool new expansion is dropping
I've been wanting resource systems like runes for a long time, hopefully one day we get soul shards for warlocks and things like that
I hope they have a special reaction if you play the lich king when you play as the death knight like well hello handsome. And I know they didn't let you fight the lich king as the demon hunter but I hope they update that single player adventure for the death knight :D
Please bring Specs for every class. It’s literally a perfect representation of actual wow talent trees and imo one of the coolest ideas they’ve had in YEARS

I like the runes idea. This hopefully means they can have some really cool cards without having it be too broken in combination. A card game with classes sounds good.
I love that the runes are similar to Magic the Gathering's color system.
Damn, if this also comes with some sweet Single Player stuff like a Dungeon Run it'll be tough to not dip a toe in.

The risen minions might not leave a corpse but they do count for denathrius, unholy deathknights could really build up a massive denathrius
Plague Strike looks pretty insane imo. Is flexible too, you can even use it in your own minions in case you can't kill an enemy with it and get one more fodder to feed your corpse counter. Also only one green rune needed to put it into a deck, so seems like a really splashable card for midrange/controlish decks.

This kinda works like the bones from Inscryption, super cool concept, pretty cool they implemented it.
Looking forward to playing Deathknight with Genn and Baku.
Gnome muncher is interesting, due to it being able to attack the enemy hero automatically if they have lower health than their minions. Generally, they're already losing if that's the case. But, I can see some niche situations where you can get around a board of life stealing taunts and whatnot, and especially if they have a lot of armor but low health. It's just interesting to me, don't mind me lol.

what this really looks like is they are adding specializations in for the rest of the classes in upcoming content as well. from a design perspective the only reason death knights had to have this heavy restriction right out the gate is there was no other way they could balance it.

@@christopherbronson3275 I don't think the former is a buff, since DK wants them to die. I think summoning 2 is the best upgrade
You can technically gain 60 additional health from neutral generation cards....so you could get up to 110 health. 1 method is controlled so you can controlled generate at least +20 additional generate.
Patchwork might be one of my favorite cards ever made. I am so tired of getting rolled because people have a key minion in their deck (that, if killed, basically makes them auto concede). I’ve always thought they should make more cards with deck disruption.

I've seen a lot of doomsaying regarding Patchwerk, but I reckon it's no better than Mutanus and Theotar. Mutanus is good because it's often a big tempo swing as well as disruption, and Theotar is good because it gives you a lot of control in which card to take; Patchwerk does neither. It'll see play, but I don't think it'll be the backbreaking menace that people make it out to be.

@@nopenope6150 It isn’t a big threat, no, at 4/6. But deleting three of the opponents minions from their deck/hand/battlefield? That is gonna be nuts for control match ups. Killing a minion the battlefield helps to gain some board control, then hitting a minion in hand (which for some decks can only be a handful of things in the late game), and as a bonus deleting one from the deck? It’s not gonna win you the game every time. Some decks won’t give a shit. But for people running Druid with Bran + delete your entire health because you have infused dude? That’s the deck I want to be countered. I use Mutanus and 5 mana swap guy just to counter that one minion. Other than some other creative decks that catch me off guard, that’s what I lose to because you can’t get your life above 80. The only way to beat that deck is to rush them down (which i never do since I’ve played control since Beta).

I'm glad it's not the case, but I'm also a little sad that patchwerk isn't just a massive pile of stats with no special effects. Feels almost weird to see him with mechanics.
what happens is arena with the DK runes?
Seems similar to inscryptions bone system and rune system. Such a cool game

I would bet half of my fortune that future HS will have these rune ( = talent) mechanism for every class. It will spice things up, it can push out more op cards while being able to limit unwanted combos etc, as well as it will be more loyal to the World of Warcraft style with talent trees/specs.
I really hope we'll get all 4 of the Horseman, or even Bolvar Lich King as DK skins at some point. My favorite is Nazgrim!

Dark transformation is good to use on a risen minion. That way it will become a corpse again

I think that rune mechanic is THE thing that will save hearthstone. It's a fantastic addition and i hope they do that on every class. Such a cool way to balance card combinations. Making the weaker cards of every class available for each rune combination. OP cards being limited to not interact with other OP cards. We'll see. By the way, they tooked their time to have that shadowspell mechanic.
