New Commercial Washer (not Speed Queen)

Speed Queen is the best Washer manufacturer in America, but what about the American made GE? does the TR5003WN compare?

When I sold GE in Canada in the early 90's , they had the dual action agitators. They were assembled in Canada and never got one back after selling. The rep did a demo one day with other brands and had a mirror attached to the lid so you could see what was happening inside. GE blew them all away. I despise GE products now and this commercial washer, after watching demos, I will avoid due to the agitator not pulling the clothes under (there are videos to show that).

Just had the plastic main drive pulley replaced on our GTW525 after 23 months of operation. It's just two of us, no kids and very few heavy loads. The pulley destroyed itself at the motor drive shaft. Replaced under warranty but was really surprised that a "commercial quality" washing machine relies on a plastic part to drive the machine. We'll see how long this new pulley lasts.

We have ours for a couple weeks now, washes great but does not get the cloths ready for the dryer in the spin cycle? My wife is running two dryer cycles to get them to dry? Service dept told us that’s as good as this washer does.

You need to put a true dual action agitator on the machine. What's the use of a spiral agitator if it only goes back and forth?

Well, my '98 GE top-load washer is still going strong, though it did need one major repair about 8 years ago, which I was able to do myself, for about $80 in parts. How it compares to the newest GE top-loader or this commercial one I'd like to know.

@@kentteffeteller5173 I heard Samsung bought GE's appliance division. I acquired my '98 top-loader in 2007, to replace a 1977 GE that was definitely on its' last legs. Best part - the '98 was a curbside rescue!.

GE washers haven't been "commercial" since the end of the Filter-Flo

@@sunbeam8866 The GE Filter-Flo was an amazing washer dating way back to the '50s. Famed for their filter system, unique agitation stroke, and strong spin. They were a great performing machine for many households until, after nearly 40 years, the design was finally killed off in 1995 and replaced with the GE "Profile" Washers, otherwise referred to as the chug chug machines because of their sound.kzread.info/dash/bejne/pn2T15aDe9i5j6g.html

@@grnappliance7297 I saw your video, and yes, that's the old GE that came with my house. Unfortunately, when it reach 30 years in 2007, it wasn't washing very well, and the spin-cycle had become an ordeal of repeatedly stopping the machine to redistribute the load, so it wouldn't walk out of the laundry-closet! When I found the replacement and dragged the old one out, I discovered one of the tub dampers had snapped off. I also discovered why dragging it was such a chore, due to the big concrete block bolted to the gearbox! The '98 GE replacement does go Thump, Thump, Thump, during the wash, But the super-size tub only needs two loads to do the three loads the old one needed. Plus, the front panel of the 'new' GE comes off for service, and even after 25 years, the spin is SO quiet! 🙂

Thank you. I bought the washer today. My LG which was 4 months old was gotten rid of. I have to have a washer that works. The LG was broken from the day we bought it at loews. Couldn,t get it fixed, and i shouldn,t have had to. They should have replaced it. I bought a new washer. What i got was a substandard machine that should not have passed inspection. The door never closed right. So,i went shopping today for a heavy duty made right,it will work machine. The owner told me that speedqueen wasn,t good anymore, but ge heavy duty is. Thank you for still making something quality.

You were unfortunately lied to by a salesman. Speed Queen is still markedly better than any laundry GE can offer you. That said, the GTW525 is still a relatively sturdy unit.

I’m looking for a commercial quality back to basics washer and dryer, too bad I can’t trust GE. On my third GE dishwasher in 3 Years. A combination of a goodwill replacement at a reduced cost just out of warranty. Then nearly exact same set of problems with the second unit. My third is six months old so by my experience it’s half dead already.

Back in the early '70s, one of my neighbors had a Speed Queen, and the tub was lined with concrete. A few years later, I moved into my first apartment, and the laundromat Speed Queens also had concrete tubs. I suppose the new ones have moved on from that archaic technology! After a couple years, I rescued a discarded compact twin-tub Hoover washing machine that hooked up to the kitchen-sink. I used it in my first apartment, and in my last one, until I bought a house in '89. 🙂

Speed Queen also built a twin tub and only stopped production maybe 2 years ago. It was mainly used in cash wash businesses and would spin at like 1500 rpm. It was full stainless cabinet. Haven’t seen a concrete outer tub before, they would have been unique.
