They're doing more and more of this here in western Pennsylvania. It used to just be the rural township side roads. Now it's some main roads too. I'm happy with how it turns out. Now we'll see how it holds up with our F350 and trailers over it day in and day out. Thanks for watching!

Our county road here is paved with the same material. It does indeed hold up really well. And since it's only private traffic on your driveway, it should hold up even better. They have to resurface the roads here every 10 years or so, that gives you an indication of how long it will last. The only drawback is when they do, not all the rocks stick in the tar and when you drive on it, the little rocks get thrown up against your paint. The "Loose Gravel" signs only do so much to get people to slow down. It looks great, Chad! Thanks for sharing! 😎👍

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about having the same driveway surface as the main road at the end of our driveway. And - now that we have a solid surface out there, anytime they update the main road, they'll also re-do our apron into the driveway. They do that with any cement, asphalt, or chipseal driveway, so that it all seals together.

Win Win, right place right time. It looks great, I have looked into reclaimed asphalt to do my 230 foot driveway, a neighbor did it and looks really nice... Have a great weekend.

I've seen some really nice reclaimed asphalt driveways - but no one around here ever has any available. I think all the municipalities re-use the ground up material in their new roads.

You need to go and buy a lottery ticket after that nice deal you got on the driveway. I think you will be happy with it. Just be gentle with snow plowing. As for the bees, Bifen IT. The stuff is amazing. 1 ounce /gallon. I spray the outside of the house top to bottom and it takes care of stink bugs, bees, wasps, spiders, ticks, Lantern Flies, Ants, etc, etc. Hodge Podge Lodge is looking better every week.

Thanks for the tip on the Bifen IT. We have had a lot of spiders, ants, and bees this year. I just wonder if it's safe for around pets? You're right - Hodge Podge Lodge keeps getting better. :)

It is safe as long as you let it dry. My son lives in NC and they get fire ants and grandkids would get bit up if they were not careful. Uses that now and it has helped a lot. He has a dog, and we have a dog. No issues. And we LOVE our furry children.

I had almost the same experience as you (some by came by, doing a neighbors driveway, had some extra, can do it for a lot less...yada yada yada) except, I got ripped off as a result. So your experience may be the exception and not the rule BEWARE ALL. The fly-by-nights scraped the surface, laid down some tar, added not enough tar or chip, and now i've got a large driveway full of weeds and grass..along with some of my new chip seal. Now I'm hoping I can find another contractor, or a DIY solution as a remedy that keeps me from starting over and not lose the thousands of dollars I spent on my 5000 square driveway / parking area. It only looks only slightly different than my lawn - nice and green Just glad you had a good experience.

That has a better chance of lasting. I wish you the best. Thats the next best to actual asphalt. At least you have all your options available.

Wow, that looks great Chad. My inclination when approached by contractors that "have a little left in the truck" is to run away, but it looks like you got the real deal! I'm impressed with the grand entrance to the Hodge Podge Lodge! Also, have we ever seen that yellow Club Car before? I don't remember it! Have a great week! BTW...approach that log after dark, pour about 2 cups of diesel into that hole. (You DON"T need to light it!) They'll be gone in the morning...

Thanks for the tip on those bees! I'll give it a try. Diesel is something I have readily available. :) I had the same concerns when approached by the contractor. I was skeptical at first. I interrogated them pretty good - what township roads are you working on? Did you sell any other leftovers earlier in the week? He gave me the name of the roads, and the name of a few other places they did earlier this week. 1 place happened to be somewhere that I know the owner of and I quickly gave him (Tyler) a call. Tyler gave a good recommendation and said I could come out and see the results. That was enough for me - I decided to give it a try. I've had that Club Car for about 7 years. It was my Grandpa's and after he passed, I wanted to keep ahold of it. He and my Grandma used it to travel out their long driveway to get the mail each day, and to do chores around the house and give the grandkids and great grandkids rides around their property. We added the MadJax flip seat to it. It's always a great reminder of my grandparents. Before we got the Polaris Ranger, the Club Car DS was our UTV. :) It also gets used every May for our annual multi-family garage sale - to assist with directing traffic in and out the driveway and to serve as a functional seating area for me, my Dad, and Jennifer's Dad to direct parking along the driveway and in the yard during Jennifer's huge garage sales in the 40x60 building. Also, upon reflection....I've done the diesel trick on yellowjackets in the ground with great success, but never in a broken tree. I'm assuming it will work the same, but....

I'd love to do this at our country property in Ohio. Wondering how easy it will be to clear snow on... I recall you had a new snowblower so that should work better than the bucket or the blade.

I was thinking the same thing - probably just use the new snowblower on this section of the driveway at first.

We have a one mile gravel road that is impassable for 1 month every year due to mud season. Would ChipSeal enable 365 day access?

Great question. I'm no expert - but I do believe you have to have a really solid base already established before applying the chip seal. I think in your situation, that one month where you're usually in the mud would end up having the chip seal surface just break up and sink into the mud. Thanks for watching and asking the question.

Two layers is usually the minimum. Give us an update how it held up!

Hello - I'm planning on a Spring update on the driveway. Right now - it's covered with snow. :)

Thank you so much for this. It's exactly what I'm looking for for my private driveway in the country. Just curious, is another layer of sealant on top of the chip possible or even necessary? And would that be a simple 'spread' or would require additional rolling? Finally, would the additional cost typically be prohibitive? Great video. Very informative.

Great questions! I'll be addressing some of this in an upcoming "update" video of the driveway. But I'll give you some of the info here - Having done this for the first time, I learned some things. 1. I would encourage a 2nd coat. One of the chipseal companies around here includes that in their price - stating that for new applications, the 2nd coat is what adds to the life of the driveway. 2. The price of that second coat does add to the cost - but if it increases the life of the driveway, I think it's probably worth it. 3. If I were doing this again - I would use a local company. I've had trouble getting back in contact with the company that did this application because they're further away and not interested in my concerns.

@@PurpleCollarLife Thanks so much for the quick response. I look forward to the followup video. In my case, I'll be attempting a civil/agricultural engineering feat! Agricultural property, doing the road paving as well as laying down an elaborate drainage system involving French drains, culverts, road surface drains, and open ditches, while simultaneously laying a parallel irrigation system. The neighbouring stream is thus to be (and is) the drain for the storm water, as well as the source for dry season irrigation. Rainy season gets too wet, therefore drain. Irrigation required during drier months. All skills acquired through KZread University! 😅
