NEW BUILD! Ramp Truck Car Hauler EP 1 Halfass Kustoms Collab
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On this episode of Make It Kustom, I introduce a new Build to the shop. The Make It Kustom Hauler is a 1971 Gmc retired firetruck ive been holding onto for a number of years. Elio and myself are prepping the 1 ton chassis for the cab swap.
Halfass Kustoms Collaboration
Brent is a talented Builder/KZreadr from Manitoba. I have him to thank for Make It Kustom's first shout out on KZread! I've been a fan of his channel for years. At the end of this month, Brent will and I will work together on this project side by side getting as much done as we can with the goal of running and driving this truck at the end of his stay.
Go check out his channel and subscribe here / @halfasskustoms

Having been a heavy truck mechanic for over 40 years I'm really looking forward to this build! I'm sure you want to remain with IFS, but if you chose to use a beam axle it would be easy to widen the front end without changing the frame width significantly. Just a thought. Looking forward to the next video and have already alerted several friends to the build. They are now subscribers too!

With Brent there I would nt put it past them to narrow the cab😆
Two of my favorite builders working together -- this will be epic for sure!!
Looks like an interesting build and now the “Half Ass” is joining the build……this will be epic………👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
YESSSS!!!!! SOOOO Excited for this one. Thanks guys
I love to watch Brett work you can learn so much from that guy

I found this channel through Brent he gave Karl a shout out and glad he did because Karl does some amazing work and learn a lot from both of them. Bad Chad to he. Work's fast, a lot of people don't like his work but he gets stuff done and fast.
Wow eyes bugging out. Fantastic project. And including Brent.. kool guy !
The long wait is over.... Ive been iching to see this project since you show it first....its gonna be rad😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰
Karl this is gonna be interesting seeing you and Brent working together on a project. I following Brent and it is amazing how he does things. Watched him build his General. Can't wait to see the project finished.
What would look good is a set of super singles like what Brent runs on his General crew cab truck. Going to be an awesome collab!

I was going to say the same thing. It would help fill those wheel wells, that's for sure. I think the C30 frame or whatever it is might be a touch too narrow for that beast of a cab
Brent will definitely be a plus for your build! I've watched so many of his videos and wow what a builder of anything! North Carolina USA
Three minutes into the video and I'm already hammering the like button! Can't wait to see this collab with Brent.
COE, ramp truck and air ride checks all the boxes! Stoked to see how this one comes out
Yup Awesome 👍
This just Might Be an EPIC collaboration here !! Get Busy Guy's
Cool build. I always thought about one of these builds. I always looked at school busses for a frame and suspension. Some are cab over design and have a wider track wide. The frames are straight and long so wheel base is unlimited. Thr steering box your after is from a step van or just a chevy van. They have a different box setup then a pickup. Going be cool Brent is in on the build. Right guy for a fast build. Watch both you guys religiously. Can't wait till the next one
@MakeItKustom

Yeah a school bus would be pretty amazing there’s so many possibilities keeping some room in the front for storage or sleeper or slightly camperized! I think this frame is too narrow man LOL there are better chassis out there

Truly................................................................Awesome.....................................................Project. Will be great to see you & Brent collaborate on this build. It will be like his build of 'The General - but on Steroids'. 👍👍
Love this stuff !!! Thanks Karl 👍👊😎
Love it. But this width issue doesn't just affect your steering. Having such a narrow chassis with so much side over hang is likely going to make it feel super unstable with a lot of body roll around the corners, especially if on air ride. I would honestly consider making new cross-members and widening the chassis to improve stability.
@danpoole9327

Cab and chassis chassis are 34" wide. That's industry standard.
@poelmeister
Жыл бұрын
I agree with Carport. Mind you, if there’s two tonnes of haul on it, it’ll be even worse. And looking at the design, that weight won’t be sitting low center either.

Semi trucks that haul 80,000 pounds are build on a 34" wide frame....
@carportkustoms5764

@@danpoole9327 what's your point? Semi trucks have more rigid frames and are built for the added weight, torsion etc. Regardless of whatever point you're trying to make, widening the chassis will improve stability.

This is going to be a great project!
Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out... Its gonna be super slick! Too bad you couldn't find yourself an old motorhome and snag the chassis out from under it. It would solve the width and steering box issue, would locate the engine about where you want it, you wouldn't have to lengthen the chassis, and lastly, it would have the dual wheel axle setup as well which is really what ya want for a hauler. Best part.. You can get a clapped out motorhome for next to nothing and they are pretty easy to source. Just me brainstorming. 🙂

I have a 68 c40 in decent shape ran when I bought three years this is exactly what we want to do .thanks for these builds inspired for sure
The motor home chassis is a great idea accomplishing what you need and leaving the one ton chassis for a future project.
Can’t wAit to see this progression take place I’d imagine that you’ll widen the chassis for stability don’t you think? This is a fantastic project!! Can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Right on Adam! Yeah I’m pretty excited to get to work with Brent for a whole week! I feel like we can probably bang a lot of work out.
The rendering looks sweet... I'm not quite sure how you're going to get that little toy chassis to match and look anything like it though lol. Are you sure you aren't going to regret getting rid of the original chassis that actually kinda slightly looked somewhat Exactly like the perfect dimensions because it was... you know.... Designed that way? Although that would probably be too easy for you lmao
@pauldionne1665

I thought the same thing. The weight on the front axle exceeds what the one ton can carry, even with air suspension. The cab will have to be cut to fit the frame.

Hey boys it’s just a thought don’t forget it’s got to go under the roller door on the way out also halfass is one of the best 🇦🇺👍
Hell ya!!!!
Cool build, I built a ramp body car hauler on a f600 chassis. Those 1 ton frames really aren’t heavy duty enough to handle the weight of a full sized car, if you stick with a little hot rod you should be fine, also brakes aren’t really up to the task, plus stretching the frame makes the turning radius horrible. I know people do it, but when I built mine I wanted to drive cross country with no problems.
@glassblastcollision

I think he's trying to use sentimental value of his dads trucks into the build ,If he boxes the frame it should be fine. I'm sure if you spend some coin you could up grade the rotors,calipers and drums.
This is an AWESOME project - so much cooler than the average bolt-on special. Really excited to see where you take this and whether you'll put any custom aesthetic touches on the styling?!

Yeah I’m pretty open to ideas on that I think that the light bar will be coming off of it as well as the search Lights. Definitely going to add as much style into the bed as possible. Also will be building a custom front bumper
@noobFab

@@MakeItKustom Nice! Hopefully those hideous mirrors will be coming off?!? With the light bar coming off, it's really going to change the shape of the cab - flattening it quite a bit and making it look quite boxy. Custom fabbed mirrors could either allow you to really double down on the squareness or add some contrasting curves maybe? The custom bed sounds really cool - the roof overhang behind the cab could be something really cool to play with too. A place to build in a custom toolbox and wich housing, maybe more?
Enjoyed this video!!!! Im excited to see how this build takes shape!!!!! I will be watching!!!
Yes, this new project is really interesting. Lets go. Bruno from France.
I started watching these videos awhile back and just realized I live 3 doors down the street from this shop. Lol can’t wait to follow the progress
Can’t wait to see this one when finished! Stuck break drums? Zip wheel and an air hammer. Take er apart in chunks. Pretty quick that way.

Put The Back Wheel In The Front And The Front Wheel In The Back With The Other Dulley Wheel And It'll Look Right!!! Keep Rocking!!!
So cool to watch 2 brothers in sync!
Yes Yes Yes looking forward to every video you do on this Beauty!!
The term for the relationship between wheel centerline and balljoint/ spindle pivot axis is "Scrub radius". This thing is SICK.
Awesome design idea. Can't wait to watch the transformation
Straight axle in the front, step notch rear and front. Mad freak street build.
Think with Brent’s Fabrication and yours. It’s going to be a awesome rig. Thanks for sharing!

Guy's this was really a fun video you made me laugh so much. I know that you will get this build looking good. Thanks for sharing this good times video
Heres another option , split the cab through the center, make it fit the chassis. But personally I would widen the chassis
John from Sweden here. I am in to restore old vehicles as well but as an amateur. I’ve watched all of your videos and I love every one of them. This one is going to be really interesting. Keep up the good work!
I drove a Rescue vehicle with that exact same cab with a 6V92TA diesel. It was a screamer!
Oh this has to be the best collaboration on KZread by far!
I love what u do Karl! Weight distribution will be a problem. If the engine is to far back the truck will not want to turn under load.

I love it. This is going to be a hoot to follow.
Awesome.
This is so cool! TWO of my favorite Canadian car channels working together! Whoo-hoo! Monster build.
Holy Stub Nose Mr. Fisher! Very cool concept.
What a cool project . Wish I was there wrenching with you . 👍
Karl, you will be fabricating mostly all new crossmembers for the frame anyway, why not widen it ? You would have more room to tuck the engine between the frame rails. Another thing to consider is custom A arms for the front suspension, you could make them wider and have more room for the airbags....
Very cool idea. Looking forward to how you will work this one out.
I think this truck is gonna be something awesome
Cut that front crossmember and the center link in the middle ---and from the lengthening place forward widen it a foot or so. ---Love your videos! Thx.
Looking forward to this build. I have a 1964 Ford N600 that I have been wanting to make a ramp truck out of. I'll be watching for ideas to steal from you!!
28:00 I always keep a spray bottle with water in it near me when I'm welding or cutting for exactly that reason 😅. Also helps to cool off parts in a hurry if I need to and I'm not worried about warping. Handled the little fire well though! Good thing the floor dry you were using wasn't very flammable.
Oh i know after 3 minuts of the video im gonna love this project 😎😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
