New Brakes for the 1997 2.2L Acura CL Project!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

These Captive rotors were used in the mid 90s accord and the Acura CL which is based on the Accord coupe. These rotors are supposed to last longer but replacing them, especially at high mileage, was a huge pain. They ditched the design and went with traditional brakes in the subsequent Accords and CLs. Follow along as me and my buddy change the brakes on this 1997 CL and realize how much more involved a brake job is with this style of brakes.

This was great, I laughed out loud at this, it really captures the struggle caused by the ridiculous captive rotor design in a funny and informative way. I'm so glad I have a 2.3CL...

We have several other videos on this Acura, feel free to check them out! They're very cool cars and for the price they're honestly great.

I put up with warped rotors for a few years, because I knew this was going to be a problem. Finally went to a local shop and had them do it. I don't think he fully realized what he was in for when he quoted me.

Dude you guys are f’n hilarious. I just TODAY bought an 800$ 97 CL. It needs brakes, I’m already hating life. Saving grace is it wasn’t driven in the “field” Pacific NW car so no salt too.

@@ErikSeastead ok so I just ran the vin. Seller said 97, vin says it’s 98. The first (thank god) year they dropped the captive rotor situation. I was thinking about lighting a match on it

Haha yeah you can do a 98 hub swap on the 97s, but they're hard to find nowadays.
