Locals can get a CitiBike membership, then they're free to unlock, free for 45 minutes, and only $0.15 per minute over 45m. You can get a day pass as well, but not sure what the breakdown is for that. Also our trash is always body shaped. Just don't ask questions.
I find 24 hour passes the way to go with Citi Bikes. If you take a citi bike for the day it is cheaper than buying metro passes every time, more fun, and you see a whole lot more of the city that way.

If you happen to have some time in Manhattan, check out Randall's island! it's one of the only quiet places in NYC and a really nice place to ride your bike with an amazing view of the city.
I was a bicycle messenger from 79'/82' Times Square. Way more chaotic back then. No bike lanes back then. You rode with the traffic in the middle avenues. My fav 6th and 5th ave also 2nd ave. If you caught what we called a "wave" which meant you didn't hit any lights for a long time, what was a rush it was especially going fast on a fixed gear! No brakes! I shot 20K specimens for the AMNH The Spectrum Of Life Exhibit Hall Of Biodiversity back in the late 90's before it was built. Freelance job. They only picked about 1,500 for wall. Fun times. Manhattan is fairly easy to get around. For the most part anything above 14th street goes east/west north/south. It gets a bit tricky going below 14th street to the Battery.

Green wave ftw
As a NYer who has lived and biked in the city and now live up along 9W, I’m suffering from major FOMO knowing Francis and Daisy have been biking nearby. 😆
Having watched you for a few years now - thought i would comment that I genuinely enjoy your videos, regardless of the content. You just have a good vibe + can story tell well!

Santander bikes in London are only £2 for an entire day. You just need to dock and swap them every 30 minutes.
@FrancisCade, the steam comes from underground boiler systems that are well over 120 plus years old and businesses and hotels refuse to spend the millions to update these systems. Certain sections of Manhattan all you see in the winter is chimney stacks of steam at street level. Brilliant content, love the vibes.

I was told that the steam is from a network of pipes that come from a power station. These are then linked into buildings heating systems. Major breaks outside in the road end up with a chimney over them. Strange place America. 😉
The locals using Citibike mostly have an annual membership, which works out to only $15/month. That also gives you 45 minutes before the additional charges kick in. For longer journeys, you can dock the bike after 44 minutes, and grab a new one to continue on your trip. A 24 hour day pass is also available for $15 and would make sense if you use it a few times during the day. The single ride is definitely the worst deal, and mostly for tourists who just fancy a bike ride and don't want to go rent a bike for the whole day.
Citibike over the WillyBurg bridge? That's a workout!
Riding in a taxi in New York is more thrilling - if you’re into being close to having a heart attack every mile… 🤣🤣🤣🍻
6:53 "Why are they body shaped?" LOL (In my best Goodfellas voice) "Yo! Francis! You're a good kid. So curious. I like that. (whispers) There's a lot goin' on here you don't need to know about. You know what I mean? Don't ask too many questions. Enjoy the city. OK? ...OK." 😁
Couple of things I picked up on. To really witness organised chaos you need to visit India. Honestly, it’s mind blowing at first sight but you soon realise it just works. A horn and zero aggression gets you where you need to go. Not sure if fancy it on a bike though… It’s been a while since I was last in New York but damn it was expensive. So much so, I figured it’d be cheaper to buy a bus ticket, rent a tent and head to a music festival up state near Woodstock for a few days.

Lime e-bikes in North Vancouver are $1.15 start and $0.35 /minute. These are great in North Vancouver cause we have quite a few hills to navigate. Make sure you make all the adjustments on the bike (ie seat height, get your helmet on, place your packages in the basket, etc.) before you login . The meter starts ticking as soon as you scan the QR code. These e-bikes are convenient, but pricey if your trip is over 15 minutes (approx $9). Thanks for the new bike day video.
I’m Headed to NYC now to see Khruangbin tonight! And I brought my bike😎
You ought to slip in a skyscape of Newcastle with the New York ones see who spots it. I have also noticed a surge in electric powered bicycles that don't need peddling round my way. :)
You guys are a riot. Love it! Stay safe!
Nice ride, I am impressed with your adventures when I lived in Manhattan very few people road bikes…but it was in the 70s
Great video. I love your travel vids, even when they're to my country.
If you two are a fan of doughnuts- you need to find Doughnut Plant. Best doughnuts ever. And since you are in Brooklyn, Royal Palms is a cool place to check out. There’s a famous BBQ joint nearby (Pig Beach) as well as a famous ice cream shop.
We have been to NY a couple of times. Stuff to see, if you like: ride the free ferry out to Long Island or Staten Island Pickle Guys The Tenement Museum Central Park has a castle and strawberry fields and such. Chess players in Washington Square Park
Cool Francis nicely shot! A good watch.
Love the footage. Postponed our NYC trips since the first surges of the pandemic back in 2020 and never got around to booking again. This makes me want to go now.
You have had more new bikes than ive had hot dinners. Good for you. Wish i had your luck.
Williamsburg Bridge on a Citibike is hard!!! Its my daily commute, but on a light bike. Daisy’s riding is impressive. Nice one
There's crit racing Tuesday at Floyd Bennett Field if you're interested
Very funny. Lots of holiday chat that we have all said ‘straight one’! Love New York. We enjoyed spotting places from famous films (ghostbusters fire station, home alone hotel etc etc there are loads) Staten Island ferry is a classic and free. Have fun 👍
I'm impressed that you're not a sweaty mess. I know if I were in a T-shirt etc, I would need a shower when I got to the Museum. I am loving these videos by the way. Reminds me of our visit to NYC pre-covid.
Well done navigating the city. You two are brave. Stay on the bikes, stay away from the subways
We were in NY for the first time a week ago - it's great to see how different your experience was!

My family and I were there this past weekend as well. We stayed in Tribeca but never left Manhattan until returning to the airport.
Love the Video’s , makes me want to go to New York and ride ‼️
from what I remember about citi bikes, best to check them in and check out again on route within every 30 mins!
Have a great trip, buddy!
We have citi bike memberships in NY. Greatly reduces the cost. it's about 180 for the year.
Good call on totally avoiding the metro and riding bikes!
My wife and I were visiting at the end of April, we rode CITI bikes all weeks and it was free 30min at the time with a day pass at 15$. So we rode from bikes station to bikes station as to not exceed our 30min. We probably rode 80k each and the tab was less than 100$.

The annual isn’t terrible. The problem is the cap is easy to exceed in NYC, especially if you’re cycling in an area that is busy. Swapping out bikes can be challenging. Some stations are just empty much of the time.
Casey Neustadt vibes... Amazing vids as usual!
Be crazy if I run into you guys at Prospect. Haha that’s my spot. Enjoy New York, you two!

A few of the big cities in the US are the same. Probably due to when they boomed. Detroit has steam coming up from manhole covers all the time. To the point that in the 90s there was a comedy show running called “Steamcleaning While You Walk.”
francis says one portion is enough food for him...immediately self conscious of the three portions I eat
That cold beer at the end made me thirsty. Great video as always
Wow, that is expensive, Francis, tho' probably the best way to go for city sightseeing--it is a bike and it is just a rental, no hassles. Have fun in NYC. 🙂
If you guys are looking for climbs try fort gorge hill in Manhattan. West 170th street towards the high bridge on the Bronx side. Edgewater to fort lee climb on the jersey side. And if you want one of the oddest commute climbs go from queens to Randal's island via the RFK bridge
I love city bikes. Washington DC has a similar program it’s my favorite way to get around when I visit there. The ones in DC are pretty cheap.
we're riding laps in prospect park today 5-7PM. There is free Yoga in the great Lawn at 7PM. Come hang out!!
Go to the Jersey Shore: Take your bikes on the Sandy Hook ferry (seastreak) from NYC . you can ride your bike on the trails round go to the lighthouse, explore several beaches and if you want , exit the park and explore SeaBright NJ and bike back to the ferry. Worth it!
Great editing, good quick entertaining video, nice one

Citi bike is great, for short trips! Locals would get citi bike annual membership but also most people don't ride citi bike straight for 67mins
Best way to end any day.........with a cold beer! 🍺 👌
In Williamsburg, hit up Sey Coffee. Some of the best! Otherwise check out Daughter in Crown Heights. My fav? La Cabra in East Village. Get the cardamom bun. Enjoy!
It was nice greeting you in Prospect Park this morning.
NYC offers so many life lessons (like it or not). Anyway, great trip already.
Taxis are surprisingly cheap in NYC. I was also surprised at the organized chaos of traffic.
The guy looking at you as you were talking at the lights 😆😆😆 you'd think he'd be used to people talking to themselves in NYC...
Nice vid Casey
That's extortionate pricing for the Citi bikes compared to London/Paris. Hot in NYC at the moment!
That cost is craaaazy! I was in Dublin this last weekend and it was 5 euros for 3 days to rent the bikes (35 for an entire year!). Free for the first 30 mins 0.50 for 1 hour 1.50 for 2 hours 3.50 for 3 hours 6.50 for 4 hours 2 euros for every 30 mins after that. If you don't check it back in after 24 hours they'll automatically charge you 150 euros though :) ps. loving the vlogs

In many parts of Europe the public bike share system is -- public. That means it is a public service owned by the municipality that is not necessarily for profit making, but to improve transportation and reduce congestion, just like the bus and metro. In USA, many are run by private, for-profit companies like Lyft and that can explain why it costs more. NYC is also very expensive in terms of space and labor to move these bikes around when there are not enough of them in one location.
@stephendoherty8291

the original dublin bike scheme was funded via an agreement without outdoor poster company so that helped and like NYC its sponsored but its also funded by the local council as sponsorship does not cover the full cost. Seems expensive in NYC. Over a week or 2 it might be easier to rent a bike from a bike shop.
@bengt_axle
Жыл бұрын
@@stephendoherty8291 that’s an interesting bit of information. These Citi bikes are actually the ones invented in Quebec for the city of Montreal. Initially, the city was a stakeholder (owner) but had to sell out at a very low price to a private company because it didn’t have the public mandate to operate such a service. It lost money for the first few years. But now it is closer to even and the company that bought the rights to the bike and docking system began exporting this all over North America, from San Francisco to NYC. They have now even developed e-bikes which live on the same system and are very popular. It still costs the city to maintain the system (through grants) but there’s now greater acceptance of it and more bikes are added each year. It really does take 10 years or a pandemic for people to change their habits.
That beer looked good and cold tho
That owl is judging you bruv!
Youve gotta try the US Class 3 e-bikes! 350w of assist up to 28 mph ( 45 kph for ya) Most shops do free test rides
Get la bagel delight tomorrow in park slope, near prospect park.
Welcome to NY! Steam is for heating the many buildings. I watch many of your vids. it's weird that your world is in my world now.
Great vid :)
Francis Cade.... A Casey Neistat of bike vlogs 😁
My goodness
The annual subscription is $189.00. I use it for commuting and it comes out to less than $0.35 per ride each year.
Dude at 5:30 seemed so confused with you
Broooo come down to DC while you are here! We have a great scene :)
Yes, beer is the answer 👌🏻
How did it feel riding & not wearing a lid, safe enough?
You guys should try court street grocers… amazing vegan food… and worth the wait is lucalis in Brooklyn as well
Man you need to come to Chicago. It’s like NYC… but better 😏
Yup, both of you look smarter after that museum visit
No judgements on the good ol Taco bell. We love the bell, just don't have it before midnight 🙃
5:52 is where I grew up!
A Owl!
Which bridge did you like more? Manhattan or Williamsburg?
Pricey - but cheaper than losing your own expensive urban bike to thieves!
FYI the Met has valet bike parking so you could ride there on your own bikes and not worry about having to safely store them

ANy chance of filming the Fixie scene in NY why you're staying there ? Or just chillin on Holidays
I 100% appreciate the PhoneShop reference at 4:46 - A OWL?
Santander bikes £2 a day for unlimited 30min trips. More charges over 30 mins but I just dock and rehire for free. They are brilliant.
Yikes! Take the citibike on the subway to save time :)
Surprising tidbit. the New CitiBikes were designed by Ben Serotta.
Chipotle is great IMHO- real food
Not sure if it works the same in NYC then here in Montreal with the Bixi First 30 minutes price The best deal to take another bike for t the rest of the ride Saving some money if you're doing longer ride
Healthy taxi 🤣🤣
Our chipotle is non existent outside of London as well
I was considering taking friends on London's version...Santan...but it's just not a good deal.....£2 for 24 hour access and only 30 mins free....which means you can't get far in a city of London's size.
Remember to get a selfie with a uHaul 😂

The City bikes in Nice France are trashed. Need an entire new fleet. Cheap enough but hard to find a deck running one.
Priced to discourage you to use it. That's 3x the price of what it is in Montreal, for the exact same bike.
Oh cool nbd
The bloke at 00:05:31 "🤨" 😂
"It's in inches." I guess that's fair considering most all bicycle measurements are metric except for PSI and mtb wheel sizes.
