No, we do that in the Philippines too. Covering potholes and other dangerous and distasteful road damage with slabs of metal that is.

Actually, that's not what the metal plates are for in NYC. The metal plates w/ asphalt around them are temporary covers for road service work that occurs over long periods. Telephone, fiber, water, electrical and sewer work often takes several days to months depending on the extent of the work and in many cases, there are delays or breaks in the work, during which, the road is made usable with the metal sheets. Potholes, on the other hand, are filled with asphalt between road repavings.
Loved this series! Daisy needs to be in more videos (or have her own channel) her humour takes things to another level.

Great to meet you guys, hope we cross paths again! ✌️
in the past, i searched KZread for cycling in Death Valley and Francis Cade's "Project USA" series showed up in the results; i watched the entire series because i live in California and wanted to see some familiar sites; have been a subscriber since then - enjoy your videos.
This has been a great series so far Francis. Thx for the show. Ride on!
It’s been great seeing both of you ride through parts of NYC that I’ve ridden my whole life. Hope you guys are enjoying your Holiday here!
Loved having you and Daisy here. You both showed me why they rate NYC one of the best cities for bicycles. Hope you haven't lost your hearing because of all the sirens. Thanks for taking us along. Safe travels back home! Cheers!
Another great series, Francis - absolutely love what you do 👌
Nice to see you guys riding and spending time together again. I just flew back from Europe and I’m already planning a trip to Portugal/Spain lands exclusively to ride, thanks to your Spain trip 😅
If you haven't already, checkout the Brooklyn Greenway and the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. The Brooklyn Greenway is 26 miles and leads from Greenpoint all the way down to Howard Beach, connecting a lot of the parks in Brooklyn on the East River and the Lower Bay. The Manhattan Waterfront Greenway is 31 miles and is a bike loop around the entire island of Manhattan. Both have websites and maps showing you the type of bike paths used and where there's construction on your ride. Love the videos! Hope to catch you riding around the city sometime soon!
Loving the NYC videos, was there myself last week cycling around Central Park, and saw you in the check in queue at JFK yesterday for the Gatwick flight. Didn’t want to disturb you though. Great content and congrats 👍
the 'metal sheet' solution is quite normal in Rio as well. they even glue the ends in with a little asphalt and never bother to actually fix it for months on end!
Great trip & vlog series Francis & Daisy. Thank you! Safe trip home back to the Toon!
Lived in NYC my entire life. So glad you enjoyed your visit and had a safe ride. Cheers!
Lived in Manhattan for a summer years ago and what impressed me was the amount of change and time stops while everything changes around you…. Nice city ridding it was the best, and great work.. thanks
The metal covers are temporary. Usually placed to cover construction that will need access again soon. Once all the work is done it will be filled in and patched properly.
Loved seeing your view of our city. Not sure if you tried it but across the GW (George Washington Bridge), up Rt. 9...all the way to (up?) Bear Mountain is a great ride.
In New Orleans where I live they wait until the potholes start damaging cars, then they add cones or construction barrels. Once several cones have been flattened, they might fill it with gravel or rocks. After a couple years, the gravel should be compacted enough to add asphalt, but they usually just do another cone. When the pothole has reached the age of maturity (3 or 4) it gets patched with asphalt that will break and sink in a couple months. People literally have birthday parties and put up signs for potholes. There was one that even got to the point of having a 7ft tall tree in it and it turned an intersection into a traffic circle by accident. So I’d take metal plates all day.
Awesome video! I’m setting off on a ride around Australia next Friday. You should come and join some of the leg. Your one of the inspirations for my cycling trip
6:03 You say "eat and cycle" like that's a potential bad thing 🤣living the dream for sure, isn't that what a vacation is for? Thanks for showing off your vacation with us
Thanks for sharing your NYC adventure, it's been fun.
Loved this series / as mentioned in a prior post, I had major FOMO knowing you both were cycling nearby on all of these roads and streets I’ve spent so much time on 😂
I've done the Five Boro Bike Tour many times during which the Central Park one-way-only rules are suspended to allow all 32,000 riders to travel north into the Bronx.
You have to do the loop! Also, on the North end there is a nice mini-loop for intervals.
Lovely coverage. 👍🏻☺️ Yes, there are predawn crits in CP, then many cycling clubs/teams do training rides starting at 6:00 a.m. or so. After that, the CP loop is just too full, you must go with the flow.
nice to see another city and how different it feels to London as a rider....been there as a tourist a few times many years ago ..still had cars in central park as I recall..
In Minnesota there was a time where some parts of a bike and pedestrian trail were covered in metal slabs like that. Eventually they were taken off but there was still massive cracks that are basically just holes so I'm guessing someone binned it riding over one and they were just removed and forgotten instead of being rushed to fix it.
Love the New York City series. So happy after they added so many protected bike lanes. Come out to the west coast. We have beautiful weather year round.
thanks for taking us along
I am loving this series in NY. Thank you.
Great fun seeing your New York adventures. Thank you for the videos. Oh, and at 0:30 I think the super sized drink is a "Big Gulp" if you got it from 7-Eleven. Big Slurp sounds like a rip-off product that they would sell at the Kwik-E-Mart on The Simpsons. 😆 Safe journey home!
I have been looking at the West cycle path on google maps, thanks for showing. It looks absolutely great! Also Daisy, you are such a tease! Where are you going, where are you going, Where are you going, where are you going, Where are you going, where are you going, Where are you going, where are you going, Where are you going, where are you going, Where are you going, where are you going 🤣
I rode Central Park and down the west side Hudson River trail Last week! A bike in NYC is a must! 🤙🚴♂️
actually saw you on the bridge yesterday! thought i was crazy
Road plates are a thing here in Australia. Usually it's for longer term work that can't be blocked off to traffic for 24 hours a day, so it's plated while no work is happening.
I had a huge anorak (still UK slang?) moment when they rode past the USS Intrepid and you could see an F-14 on its flight deck, a flat top design pioneered by the UK and adopted by the US. But that's my riding style; bike to history and geek out on it. Cool series indeed, and a huge congratulations to you and Daisy, Francis. I just had an awful night, full of manky baby squeaks, squeals and demands for bottles. Oh the joys that await you!
These videos of NYC are SOOOOOOOO cool! But, Daisey is the coolest.
Congrats to Francis and future Mrs Daisy Cade!!!!!
Glad you came and had fun as for the smell that's low tied
Thanks Francis , and Daisy ! Safe travels home !
The constant noise is my biggest NYC memory. Our hotel room was on the 30ish floor. All night was just sirens and horns.
Ah man... this series makes me want to take a bike to NYC next time I head out.....
Great series from New York.
Really enjoyed these. Hope you have enjoyed your time as much.

Thanks so much for watching them!
You need a trip to Washington, DC! Lots of trails in and just outside the city! Plenty to see and eat!
The West Side Highway is great. Just crazy around Little Island. Best part of cycling in Manhttan imo
Awesome vid and series. But those metal plates are temporary covers for when people come at night and work on it! They work during the night and then cover it up again in the morning.
do you use the fidlocks with the flip cap lids to keep street crud off your nozzle? NYC in the wet must be a good place to do that
Omg the glasses are COOOOOOOOL!
Haha, I bike past that smelly place too. Probably the parks dept. storing fertilizer. Glad you're enjoying the city (as we tri-staters call it).
Metal plates are often in place when they're doing subsurface utility work that they're not just finished with yet.
Sorry, I missed you while I was visiting NY, would have loved to have joined you on a ride.
Can't believe we still haven't seen an appearance from a GT85 spray can this trip
Metals on roads are here in the Philippines too. Especially on the so called “bike lanes”. Haha
If you guys enjoyed Central Park, you'll like Forest Park in St. Louis. Not sure why you'd have a reason to come out this way, but we're a pretty bikey town 😁
Hi Francis, Could you do a video on traveling with your bike abroad? How did they get in New York? Or did you make one already? Thanks!

We flew with them in boxes!
First time I have ever been first to like a video. I feel special. Great program from you both.
They put metal platforms too on potholes in the Philippines.
4:58 that is always the case in the Philippines
Coffee imported from all the way from Germany I see. Btw The Barn mark great coffee
loved the socks of Daisy, 🤩 where did she get them?
Love Daisy on the vlog
Next time you have to come to Guatemala 🇬🇹 get some coffee harvest in volcanoes (37 actually).
Those steel plates get vey slippery in the rain, seems to be a lot in New York. Wellington N.Z had a few but I haven't lived there for 8 years. Enjoy your squiggling.
Daisy has such a great personality and fun factor! Her expressions are the best 😀
I'm so honored (that's the correct American spelling) that you've made these videos. You've done a wonderful job capturing this strange and wonderful city. It's chaotic and smelly and lawless, and I love it despite all that. The smell you smelled on the Hudson River Greenway is a compost site. Right next to it is a heliport which is, in my view, a taxi stand for billionaires. The exhaust from the helicopters is far more toxic, and some people are advocating for getting rid of helicopters entirely. Thank you so much. It would have been easy to do a bad job of this, and you've done great. But did you really find the climbs to be hard? I've cycled in England and had hugely challenging climbs there. By comparison, NYC is nearly flat.
Everyone on the Terry B stream was saying y'all need to connect! 🤞

How does the actual Central Park route compare to the Zwift NYC route?

The street is under construction. Could be a water main. Its not a pothole remedy. Paulie Gee's Pizza before you go or Di Fara's.

@@Cade_Media time to retire this excuse with my riding buddies then 😆 I do agree they lock up very well I love the instant stop I’ve been seeing on my bike stand.
I'm guessing Badlands 🤔
Is that Scott Addict that your riding? Just curious.
I would say the CP races are more circuit like. We have the crits in the streets 😉
What about a NYC night bike ride?
I would love to make this trip, take a nice long ride then grab a ferry back to the hotel.
LOL that one part of the west side highway truly smells horrid.
