New Beetle gets Valve Body Solenoids replaced. I NEVER want to do this again. EVER. Part 5

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The fluid change to the transmission did NOT fix the hard up and downshift issues I was having so I ordered the solenoids… succcchhhh a messy job!!!!!!
Here’s a link to the exact ones I used for my 09G transmission :

Youre a total badass for attempting! I have the 2003 'mellow yellow' convertible as well. #1.8turbo

Yes! Well done. I learned automatic transmissions using the labyrinth of passages, springs, and check balls. The electronically controlled transmission is an entirely unique animal. Solenoid valves, and a computer. You noticed one valve is different. This is the fluid pressure solenoid, it operates in modulated intervals. The remaining solenoids are on or off. When on, they are constantly energized. This is why one of the big ones is different, if left on constantly, it will self destruct, it has a different (lower) current flow. In the field, I would replace the entire assembly (warranty), but for friends, I would replace the individual bad solenoid(s). Yep! The valve body is a heavy beast, unwieldly, and you have a constant drool of fluid to deal with. As you no doubt discovered, there are several different lengths of bolt about the perimeter, and that shift arm has a precarious locking tab system, AND you have to be careful routing the harnesses around the edges of the valve body. Lots of work, but compare this against the expense of giving up and spending lots of money! Glad it worked well for you!!

OMG yes tough job for sure!!!!! I didn’t want to spend $300+ for a valve body so I figured why not try this. So much fluid omg lol It drives great now btw!!! So happy this was the issue! Just think it sucks that at 80k it needed them but then again this car wasn’t very well taken care of, which is sad :(

So you never reset the solenoids via tuner? I think that is needed after replacemnt.
